Sat on a balcony in Mexico with eff all else to do than watch the tailend of Hurricane Bud, I was thinking that we ought to have a chant for the gaffer. Now, music isn't a strength of mine so all I could think of was to plagiarise Man City's version of "Glad All Over"

Over to you guys!

We've got Jolley
Michael jolley
I just don't think you understand
He's Fenty's man
He's better than Zidane*
We've got Michael Jolley

*now that zidane is a European cup retaining manager this line is still appropriate!

Anyway I just really liked this chant for Podge so would be great to see it resurrected, and it actually seems to fit pretty well.

Thought that was Palace's 'anthem'.

Hopefully just a slight adjustment to the chant at the back end of last season.

"Going up under Michael Jolley,
We're going up under Michael Jolley"

Right. I think ripping off that would make us look like right male masturbators.

Guardiola sounds a little bit like “glad all over”

Michael Jolley doesn’t.

Always love the Blaydon Races rip-off.  I'm told it was big under McMenemy, and remember singing it with "Buckley's Aces", but haven't heard it much recently.

I've had a long think about the Michael Jolley song, played around with some rhymes and looked at some songs.  I also thought back to what have been the really good crowd songs and then I thought about that great away day at Orient with our Eendracht Aalst friends and how good some of the Oasis songs were, with the whole town section joining in and belting them out. Sooooo:

So what's the matter with you?
Sing me something new
Don't ya know,
the cold and wind and rain don't know
They only seem, to come and go awaaaaaaayyyy:

MichaelJolleeee
Jolley Knows
The way it's gonna be!

to "Stand by me" by Oasis.

Fits into short and long forms and isn't a rip-off of another club's song.  Also plenty of Town fans in their 20s-50s will know enough of the words and tune to be able to carry it.

When I was young,
Grimsby Town were so wonderful,
A miracle, oh, they were beautiful, magical,
Now Michael Jolley is here,
From Sweden in his aeroplane,
And he’ll make those times come again

You put your left leg in,
Your left leg out:
In, out, in, out, shake it all about.
You do the Michael Jolley,
And you turn around.
That's what it's all about!

Oh, the Michael Jolley.
Oh, the Michael Jolley.
Oh, the Michael Jolley.
Knees bent, arms stretched Town, Town, Town .

You put your right leg in,
Your right leg out:
In, out, in, out, shake it all about.
You do the Michael Jolley,
And you turn around.
That's what it's all about!

You put your left arm in,

Good effort that. Be great to get another song that other clubs aren’t using like the Bogle one.
Always find it a little cringey that we just rehash whatever is popular with the big prem teams.

Good effort that. Be great to get another song that other clubs aren’t using like the Bogle one.
Always find it a little cringey that we just rehash whatever is popular with the big prem teams.

The Bogle one was part of the motivation too; that really took off.  I remember when we won at Luton, I went with a Luton-supporting mate and he was texting during the game to say how everyone in their end loved the Bogle song!

I reckon the Oasis one could take off, but might need Stand by Me to be played before kickoff at BP a few times to get it spreading.  Then there'll be an away game where there's a critical mass of fans singing it, at just the right point of the game, for it to catch.

Sorry to be pedantic but, The Logical Song was originally by Supertramp, from the 1979 album Breakfast In America.

The Scooters version is effing awful!

Michael Jolley is our number one man'
He'll get us promoted if anyone can,

Why do we have to subject the poor sodomist to a personal chant?

'Black and White army' is surely sufficient

Always love the Blaydon Races rip-off.  I'm told it was big under McMenemy, and remember singing it with "Buckley's Aces", but haven't heard it much recently.

I'm pretty sure i can pinpoint exactly when we stopped singing it regularly, it was ALWAYS a mainstay, but when we appointed Scott & Hurst it didn't fit in to the tune.....i remember people trying to mumble through that bit, and then it turned into 'Grimsby Aces' which just isn't as good...eventually everyone just stopped singing it.

Let's bring it back!

This would be easier if we occasionally played in white shorts with the black and white shirts, but we don't have any white shorts and socks in any of the kits, and the modern trend is for ANY type of clash to lead to a whole different kit being worn.  Away at Morecambe, Cambridge, Lincoln would all be candidates for us to go full-Juve.

The song Charile by Red Hot Chilli Peppers renamed to Jolley here is the chorus:

So much more than
Jolley's waking me
To my core and
Jolley's shaking me
Tell my story
Jolley's making me
Jolley's making me smile
Ooh oo oh now!

Looking back on when we first met
I can not escape and I can not forget
Russel Slade has gone
Jolley is the one
and Town are coming back again.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
