The ref still awards the VAR penalties but given the threshold for referral (clear and obvious error) it will be a brave ref who declines to change his mind. Interesting to see if this happens.

Referees are in danger of becoming sidelined in the major decision making process and linos have already been told not to flag for offsides if its at all borderline thuis taking awauy their reason for being there. Overall I don't like VAR except where a player commits a foul or assault off the ball that the ref doesn't see and he gets red carded later as he comes out of the shower. Goal line tecnology has sorted out the biggest problem, penalties IMO tend to level themselves out (refs often make sure of that) Can't be much fun having the major decision making taken away from you Far too many pennos (VAR and otherwise) in this WC already On bended knee is no way to be free - Peter R de Vries https://www.linkedin.com/pulse.....=public_profile_post
