Great news.... Very impressed with what Jolley is doing.

Clearly building for the future!

Now when it is his turn for a 2 or 3 Year deal?

MJ has done more than take up the one year option and given him a 2 year contract. Obviously feels that he has a bright future. Always great to see a local lad make the team. When he's on the pitch it will mean as much to him as it does for all of us in the stands.

Well done Max.

Weve all been cheering you on from a distance.

About time something like this has happened.
Giving local lads and youth a chance with a 2 year deal.
Doubt if it will be expensive, and there is no pressure on the lad, not like 6 or 12 month deals.

I think this could be a really exciting squad. Clearly jolley is willing to put a lot of faith in youngsters like wright, clifton and robles which surely frees up wages to make some big first team signings too.

2 year deal suggests they think he has what it takes, so looking forward to seeing him on the pitch for the Mariners. As dapperz says, it would be great to see him and Clifton as regulars together.

Apart from Kris2 of course

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Excellent.

Really telling that we've offered him this contract without "needing" to as he was already with us for another year.

Good news for the future, but I wouldn't be expecting to see a lot of him in the first team next season.  I understand that we like to see a local lad do good, but don't forget, his very good performances last season were in a League 4 below us!

Have to have at least one own produced player in the match Day squad next season  so if Clifton is injured/suspended/ out of form then Max will make at least the bench.

Harry Cliftons previous performances were at Grantham Town but came back to force his way into our league two side and most didn't think he looked out of place. No guarantees but why can't Max do the same?

I can remember a very young John McDermot make his debut, away at Bradford I think. He played on the wing and looked a slip of a lad. He didn't do to bad for us did he? It is possible Max might end up as a wing back. Only time will tell. We don't as yet have any back up for RB.

I wonder if we will consider loaning him out until January? 6 months mentoring with Nathan Arnold would do him no harm whatsoever.

Good news for Max. Sounds like he's deserved it through years of hard work. Whatever happens, he's given it his best shot.

Well done Max.

I hope they don’t loan him out but if they do it should be no lower than conference , I’d prefer him sticking around the squad building himself up a bit and pushing for a place in the team.

A 2 year contract gives flexibility in this regard. If he's not getting a look in with the first team, send him out on loan for a few months somewhere to give him the opportunity to play and develop. I agree that Conference or possibly Conference North level ought to be the limit. Hopefully, he'll do well enough to make our squad and gain experience through sub appearances.

Hope he gets his chance. Regardless of the level he was playing at with Scarborough, it was against men, looking at the numbers of goals, assists and man of the match awards it’s clear he threw everything into it.

Based on Boston being part time and down the road so he will still be around Cheapside all week whilst getting regular, competitive games. I would love nothing more than to see him playing in our team from the start of next season but 4 levels is a big jump and he is at an age where regular games will aid his development.

But why be mentored by Nathan Arnold, on his day a brilliant player but unfortunately his days were not that often.

In a collective bid to help more players make the transition from academy to first-team football, EFL clubs have also agreed to introduce a requirement for at least one club-developed player to be named on each team sheet from the start of the 2018/19 season.

As someone mentioned earlier or on another thread, Max and Harry are our only 2 club developed players so i doubt we'll be loaning them out because we NEED them.

Technically, it's not a requirement.

But if you don't have a home grown academy product in your matchday squad of 18 this coming season, you lose a spot on your bench so can only name 6 subs.

The following season it extends to two places so if you don't have 2 home growns in your 18 you can only have 5 subs, and 6 subs if you only have 1 home grown

There could be a few benches players light in year 2 then.It sure gives any Town Academy players some hope if they can get close.

Does Asante qualify?

How long do you have to be in the Academy to qualify for this? Is it worth scouting other clubs academy's for possible players.
