Supposedly handed in a transfer request at Lincoln.

Would you take him back?

I'm all for new players, stay away from ex players etc, but I really liked Palmer when he was here and averaged a goal every 180 mins at Lincoln last season, more than anyone else at Lincoln...

I appreciated him when he was with us but did we really miss him once he'd left?

One of those players who had they stayed might have become a fans' favourite but to be honest he's not a Podge so hardly one of those who you'd bust a gut to bring back

Inspired loan signing that gee'd up our failing strikeforce at the time....been more of an impact sub for Lincoln hasn't he though ?  Bench option possibly but not someone to lead your strikeforce IMO.

One things for sure, he'd be an improvement on our strike force from last season....not that that's difficult.

Some fans on here seem to have done the impossible - have less vision than Mr. Fenty.

A Lincoln sub/fringe player - and this is supposed to make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up?

We will have to do a lot, lot better than this if the club are to win back the fans who have deserted them and those that could be tempted.

I am sure Jolley will have much bigger fish to fry - at least I hope he has.

Wouldn't be upset if he rejoined but also wouldn't be overjoyed. I'd imagine he'd probably score a dozen as a regular starter, but not sure if that is enough. Wouldn't have LJL around to do lots of his running for him this time.

Beat me to it - he can play so long as he isn't asked to come back for corners and, especially not if we get to play at Wembley.

I have the feeling that all towns signings this season will be complete unknowns to towns fans. Besides why would a town manager thats been he 3/4 months go back and sign ex-players from years gone by.

Palmer do well for us in the Conference days. But he hasnt exactly shone since.

Would i have him back? If he was going to be the main striker then no. I think we need better. He would only add depth to the striking options imo. A squad player and i dont think that is what we need.

I have seen a few Lincoln games the last 2 seasons through work and Palmer has been on the sidelines due to the form of Rhead but regularly comes off the bench as Rhead can't last 90 minutes.

His stats are quite good when broken down to minutes per goal and he seems to be a decent all rounder which if you are going to have a Plan A, B and C, it is certainly useful. I've seen him score some good, important goals for Lincoln. I understand he is a former player but let's take that out of the equation:

He's scored goals this season and been a squad player in a team that was 90 disastrous minutes away from a second Wembley appearance this season. We, however took our survival to the penultimate game of the season and our top scoring striker managed 6 league goals all season courtesy of a final day hat-trick.

Unfortunately we are currently at a level where players from most local rivals would be an improvement on what we have.

Generally share the skepticism over ex players, but putting that aside, and under Jolley - could be a good striker to have in the squad due to his style and how he has a lot of the vital aspects to the forward role covered.

Good age and experience level too in what could be a younger squad overall next season , and should be hungry to actually win something he has played a proper part in. Wouldn't be against it at all if Jolley was actually interested - haven't  actually seen anything to suggest that.

Who cares wether he’s played for us or not? The lad can score goals, not 20+ a season but more than Jamile Matt or Scott Vernon could muster between them.

Was it the winner, the game I saw, was a equalising goal.

Lost on penalties, Pitman expertly placed his penalty into my hands row 32. section 112

If he continues his end of season (particularly the 2nd half at FGR) form into next season then he'll hit 276 goals, which should secure at least a top half spot.

Which to be honest, won't be a bad return at all given his early/mid-season form for us this year!

He was okay in the league below. Lincoln is about his level, a big lump and a threat in the air. Not for me thanks, I'd prefer someone a lot more mobile and able to bring others into play.

I hope you don't mean put him on as a sub and sling the ball at him from all angles. I've had enough of that to last me a lifetime. It was like watching an even more direct Lincoln under Slade and I don't ever want to see that excrement again. Win, draw or lose we need to play the right way, the Grimsby way.

Would rather have Vernam back if we can get him, though i do think we need at least one experienced striker with some sort of steady goalscoring record over a period of time.

I know what you're saying Les - and i'm an optimist more often than not. But hand on heart, i'd be pleasantly very surprised if we challenge for the playoffs this season.

Talk of the playoffs since our return to the league has been unfounded and wide of the mark so far.....all talk from managers and players who havent stepped up to the plate. In reality, i think we are still very much trying to find our feet in this league after two average to very bad seasons of stops, starts, manager changes and dicing with death. I think we need to give MJ time, and my gut feeling is that this season will be a season of new beginnings, building a strong base of players to perhaps crack on next season.

Obviously i want us to be challenging for the title mind, nevermind the playoffs

Nothing against Ollie but we are looking up not back,

Our side will be made up of young talented quick players making a name for themselves under Jolley.

With 1 or 2 old heads to calm things down when needed.
