Wonder what the odds are on Omar Bogle being his first signing now that Cardiff have gone up and I can't see him getting a look-in there next season.

Wonder if he was first choice, thought Ipswich were interested in the Cowley's but they've since committed themselves to Lincoln.

Fella I know through work who's a Shrews fan is all up in arms reckons the deal was done before their playoff campaign and can't believe that Hursty would treat them like this! A triumph of hope over experience obviously.

Rumours are he's atttracting interest from Premier League teams and also abroad though.

I work with a few Ipswich fans, and I’ve done a bit of hospitality there too over the past couple of seasons.

I think Hurst is a decent bet for them, as he may be a bit dour, but will aim not to lose first which seems to be the current Ipswich approach, as the Championship in general has overtaken them financially and the board seem to think that “pushing for the playoffs “ each season is a major success.

Crowds are generally down in the mid teens, which feels demoralising in a 30,000 + seater stadium, and they are similar to GTFC in that their extreme eastern geography makes them a difficult sell to decent championship players

Good luck to him though

He can work within a budget and they're skint.

He'll be in for Nolan and Bogle I'm sure.

Bit like the Shrews last season.

Best of luck to him, he'd have been foolish not to jump at the chance to manage at that level.

Extreme location ?? It's about a hour ten from Liverpool Street with about 60 trains a day back/ forth and obviously even closer to Essex hardly a Grimsby like outpost is it . It's a club with good history from the Robson era but like you say struggle to compete with the heavyweights of the championship and theirs plenty of them tbf. It's a big step up for Hurst and we'll see soon enough if he's up to it

He's got a 3 year contract so he's made and good luck to him.after Scott got sacked he could have been almost unemployable within football inside 3 months. He's now a millionaire and assured of at least 5 if not 10 years of work in management if that's what he wants. He's worked bloody hard and he deserves the chance.well done ph .

With the amount of money brought into that division through Premiershite parachute payments, I'd imagine his remit is to try and help the team to sneak into the play-offs. If he can do this and give them a chance of promotion (like Huddersfield managed) he'll have done a good job. Whether or not he'll be able to achieve this remains to be seen.

Why does everybody think he will be in for Omar? He wasn't a Hurst type player at all with his Roy of the Rovers attitude and constant need for an arm around his shoulder when it wasn't going well. Don't think there's a chance Hurst will go anywhere near Omar. I don't even think Omar is good enough for Championship level.

I think you're right about Omar. I was led to believe that he had misgivings about Omar and indeed Amond when he/they were with us. He might go for Nolan though.

Good luck to him. Toughest job he's had.
