Seen a few salty people relishing in Shrewsbury's defeat today and mocking Paul Hurst. I for one wanted Shrewsbury to win and have kept half an eye on them all season mostly as the team has Paul Hurst and a few ex town players.
People seem quick to forget he got us back in the football league. People also seem quick to forget that prior to him leaving we'd had a good start and were in and around the playoffs in our first season back. THEN he manages to keep Shrewsbury up and the next season turns the relegation favourites into a promotion chasing team.
I had the good fortune to actually speak to Paul Hurst at cheapside once and the guy had all the time in the world for me. We had a good chat about the club and what he wanted etc and it was a really nice experience for me and my son. I'm not saying he's a perfect manager. He didn't always endear himself to the fans and some didn't like his style of football but if you look at his stats it shows that he's a good manager who gets results and has proved this by continuing to do well and moving up the leagues.

I think we made a mistake in letting him go, not giving him the backing he wanted at the time (something that looks to have been rectified since with regards to backroom staff). He's a good young manager who has only got better. Let's hope Jolly turns out just as good and that we don't make the same mistakes.

Did we let him go I thought he left?.

To be honest I couldn't give a toss whether Shrewsbury had got promoted or not.

And he will be leaving Shrewsbury for Ipswich in a few days.
Never liked the bloke so intercourse him 👍

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Sour grapes from alot of people. I think alot more went on and maybe the board couldn't commit fully to what he wanted. they couldn't agree and he moved on. It's football. He's a great bloke and also met him on a couple of occasion's. He said on numerous occasions that the whole 'ear cupping' was aimed at the small minority of fans . He held our fans in the highest of regards.

I’d much rather Shrewsbury had gone up than Rotherham not that it affects us in the greater scheme of things

I’d just rather it had been some of our old boys who’d tasted glory than players from a club who a few years ago were negotiating their way through administration before sorting themselves out with a new ground on the back of their new found financial equilibrium

I can understand some Town fans wanting Hurst to fail after leaving us as they probably never forgave him for the ‘spoilt’ comments and the ear-cupping aimed at those who’d never taken to him, but I’d have been pleased to see him rewarded today for all the hard work he & his team put in to the past season

I’ve not forgiven Hurst for giving Vernon and Berrett two-year seals but I wish him no ill.

How quick he got us promoted !!! I’m sure in total it was around 6 years which is a very long time for a manager if you ask me ok he was with Scott for a bit also but I think he got lucky a few times with us not to get the Bullet good luck to him but we have to move on like he did UTM

I didn't really feel anything when he left and I couldn't care less if Hurst and Shrewsbury won today or not.
I don't wish Hurst any ill, and I'm not really bothered if he's successful there or somewhere else.
Yeah he got us promoted but he made it about as difficult as anyone could. Yeah he's done a good job at Shrewsbury - nice for them all.

Well done to Rotherham. If Coventry win tomorrow I've predicted three out of three. Whoopie-do.

UTM.

Felt sorry for them today but Henderson did his career prospects no harm. However Lenny showed himself, as previous, to be nowhere near League level.

I think it's perfectly normal and natural to keep an eye on ex-Town players and managers. How many of us tracked Clive's career at Charlton, or are still watching were Bogle ends up?

Paul Hurst got this club back into the FL. Some may say it took him a long time, others will just be grateful that it happened at all (with Stockport, York, Torquay, Kidderminster etc in mind).

On the whole I thought he was a very good manager and was just the sort of person we needed at that time. He had his shortcomings but show me a manager at that level who's perfect.

Was hoping Shrewsbury would win today but as we know in Grimsby, more often than not things don't go your way.

I hope Hursty is successful wherever he ends up. Same goes for all our ex-players in that Shrews team. Henderson looks a top goalkeeper and has a very bright future ahead of him.

Shrewsbury? Didn't care one way or another. Paul Hurst? Didn't care one way or another.

What i do care about is the game of football and under PH, i found the man and the team extremely dull. He's all about the result and nothing else. Some people are happy with that but i'm not and want to see and feel a bit of excitement and flair during a game. I saw very little of either under the reign of PH. I appreciated what he did but was glad/relieved when he left. Jolley brought as much excitement in 10 games, as PH brought in several seasons. The man will always be marmite, but he will never generate true fervour among supporters.

Hurst was a dull dull dull man,
Aimed at a small minority or not the ear cupping was a absolute disgrace and an insult to the tremendous support he had enjoyed at Grimsby Town, for me it put a damper on what should have been a memorable day, what kind of man would do that rather than celebrate with the supporters, his actions that day said a lot about the type of charator he is.
The first opportunity he had he jumped ship and did it in a sneaky fasion (remember the Doig post match interveiw)  instead of being honest and straight with the supporters.

I was always sat on the fence about Hurst until the last season in non league then I decided he would never get us promoted.

I did not like the way he spoke about us and he did not like the way a certain non chairman was not HONEST with him.

So as soon as he could move on he did,,

He talks highly of the Shrewsbury chairman but he will still walk away as soon as a contract is offered by a bigger club,

There is no loyalty in football so why should we be loyal to him.

If he ends up at Ipswich or Sunderland he will find out the fans and boards are a lot more demanding than his last few clubs.

What an amazingly odd thread, we have an optimistic future under a manager that "gets it" why don't we focus on that eh?

If memory serves me right In the last 50 years or so only 5 mangers one of whom was Hurst have achieved promotion at GTFC and we have been promoted 7 times. get behind MJ and who knows an 8th may just happen at some point.

He's going to go down like a lead balloon at Ipswich, he should speak to Mick McCarthy before he takes the job about the fans abuse.

The Ipswich fans thought McCarthy's style was boring and unadventurous, wait till Hurst gets in at Portman Road

I wonder if he will move to the town, either way I so hope I see him out and about so I can cup my ear at him

Its a bloody long drive to Ipswich from Rotherham every day Swin,

He will have to move but a nice village would suit him best ,

Maybe he will come to Thurston to live.

There is very little to talk about at the minute Herts,

We are all behind MJ and I am sure he will be a success,

Maybe you would like us all to hibernate for the summer,

OR

Better still go on holiday.
