....is not in Kiev, but Rugby Park, Kilmarnock on Sunday where Auchinleck Talbot  have reached their 8th Junior Cup Final in the last 13 seasons. It's on BBCALBA at 4.05pm if anyone's remotely interested.

We've even got a Cup Final song, and it'c certainly one of the much better ones, see below.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Went to Falkirk a few weeks back and drove past Falkirks 3 stand stadium, apparently they are not allowed to build the 4th stand due to the Gas factory, some sort of health & safety, but its ok for residents and other business.  Is this true Jock?

Not what they used to be. Immediate post war years saw attendances in the 50,000 to 70,000 area. When we played our first Junior Cup Final vs Petershill in the 1948-9 season there were 68,837 there. There was just over 6,000 last season for a local derby final vs Glenafton. When I moved north in the 1991-92 season we also played Glenafton in the final that season, at Partick Thistle, and there were some 12,000 fans there for that one.

We have a hard core home support of about 400 to 450. What Auchinleck does have though is a huge travelling support in percentage terms where we often taken very similar numbers to away games. It helps that the game is regionalised, and the furthest we travel at the moment for a league game is about 55 miles, but they're still impressive figures. Most clubs take about 50 fans away from home, but you do get some exceptions for local derbies where four figure crowds can still happen. Some of these derby games do have the capacity to attract large numbers of nutters, just like the 1970s, and there have been games in the last few seasons where they have had to be played behind closed doors. They are the exception though.

In the film accompanying this you'll see a game with a decent attendance. That was the Junior Cup semi final at Lochee United, a suburb of Dundee. The kick off was put back 15 minutes to get everyone in, and the attendance on the day was nearly 2,500. About 700 were from Auchinleck, and although there was nominal segregation with the majority of fans down on side, I stood with a good many fans behind the goal at their clubhouse end. When yous ee the headed goal go in you'll notice about a third of those there celebrate. The game's like that, bar some of those I've mentioned. Didn't see any police in the ground on the day. We overturned a 1-0 home defeat in the home leg to score two goals in the last ten minutes at Lochee to go through 2-1 on aggregate. A very emotional day.
