Zak Mills, very unlucky not to be offered a contract, a lot better than some that will be here next season as it stands, little between him and Hall-Johnson, and was one who kept battling all through the bad spell

Very good player. He will go on to better things. Big mistake letting him go.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

If we have a new right back next season, in the Richard Tait mould, he will soon be forgotten. We have to trust the judgement of the manager, especially this manager, who seems to know what he's doing. I think we have become used to average players as fans, and anyone even slightly above average is seen as a loss when they leave. Let's get some more like Tait and Danny Andrew at the club. I don't think Mills ever progressed after looking promising at first.

A surprise to me as I think Mills is a decent player. I think, perhaps, that RHJ's extra pace has counted in his favour and got him the position. Might give an indication as to what Jolley is looking for next season. Mills much better in the air than RHJ, however.
We've certainly played against teams with worse full-backs than Mills so it wouldn't surprise me if we faced him next season. If not, I'd hope he'll find a decent Conference team.

Trust Jolley. You don't know who he's got lined up to come in Plus, wages are always a factor which most fans don't even consider.

Decent player for me , a great shame we are stuck with Dixon on the wage bill. I was a fan and would have been pleased to see him stay utm Jolley has been great and so I guess that is good enough utm

There are many better right backs out there. Bit surprised as thought mills would be useful as a squad player for his versatility but think his lack of footballing ability was his downfall. No doubt jolle y has a better replacement already in place

Think Mills was a good all-round athlete and defended OK generally. But while he had the energy to get up and down the right flank, it was his quality on the ball in the opposition half that was always his weakness.
Lot of people seem surprised or disappointed at his release, yet we don't know who his replacement will be yet.
A decent player for us for a couple of years, but certainly not irreplaceable.
Wish him well though.

Certainly wish Mills well, but I also think he has gone backwards this season after a good first season in league football. Poor going forward, but a competent defender. Was a little surprised he was released though but that is probably due to the development of a younger and probably cheaper Hall-Johnson (also a bit surprised at Woolford being retained but in MJ we trust). Could well see Mills playing against us next season in the football league.

For me Mills best spell in the team was when Wilkinson was caretaker manager I thought he was excellent in them few games, I thought he would of impressed Jolley in them games he was watching.
Jolley didn't seem to rate Mills he wasn't his type of RB. I have always said if Mills has the passing and crossing ability of a Ben Davies and a bit more Davies giuile he would be RB here for years.
His passing let's him down.
I suppose Tom Miller is available who also has a monster throw on him.

I doubt Mills would have been on a bundle as this was his first full time contract and he was signed by Hurst.

Be very surprised if Mills hasn't got a club lined up, which has shaped the decision to not offer him a deal.
I don't think his end product is that bad at all, but defensively he was more than fine (across the line) and even into midfield. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in our division or even in the one above.

Jolley seems keen to build a passing team in the Town tradition but also a team with pace to counter attack down the flanks.
He is going to want full backs who can combine down the wings and put in a cross.
I guess he sees Hall Johnson in this style but not Mills.

me too. incidentally think we have 4 midfielders at present (5 if you include Kelly). IF we are getting Annan & Vernham returns do we need any more midfielders?

I think he may go to a 3 man midfield.. so I suspect he may sign 2 more...Hall Johnson could be used in a couple of positions I suspect..

Zak's a Peterborough lad, I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing for Cambridge United next season. As others have said, he seems to have gone backwards this season but always gave 100% in a Town shirt. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

He had an absolute stinker vs Cambridge away a couple of months ago so can’t imagine that they’d be particular suitors. I think a spell in the Conference would do him good. After all he did make a big jump from Conference North to L2 initially.

Not sure how Cambridge would have picked him out. All 10 outfield players had an absolute stinker that day 😭😭😭

Wasn't the first game after Slade was sacked? Wilkinson went with a back 3 and put Mills in the middle of it?
I thought he played ok that game.

Yes, I thought he was ok in that game, but frankly the entire team were so dire that it wasn't hard to look a little better than the rest that day.

If you read what my post was referring to smart @rse, you’ll see I was referring to another poster suggesting Cambridge potentially being interested in him.

Well smart bottom I was referring to your comment that just because you thought he had a bad game against Cambridge then they wouldn't be interested in him so based on that flimsy thinking no one would be interested in any of our players not even the ones we have offered contracts to as at some point they have all been excrement during this season.
