it shows that player(s) can change fans opinions after all several wanted him gone but Summers is one of my fav midfielders, glad fans are now backing him.

Tough one, I've not managed many games being in the south west but I'm sure MJ has ideas. I'm sure he will keep a few who he feels are good enough, we've just been a promotion chasing team. It doesn't mean I am saying I want them all to stay, I'm not going to guess or speculate. I feel 100% confident MJ will do the right thing and keep the right players.

Summerfield has done ok but he’s still not good enough. He doesn’t get enough goals or assists to warrant being first choice. He potentially deserves another year as a squad player but nothing more.

Think summers has the potential to be a squad player - nothing more though.

Would offer dembele, macca, fox, Clifton, Wright, akeem roses  new contracts and get rid of the rest.

What can't be forgetten is that this squad isn't good enough and ultimately is far from good enough. Going to be an exciting summer

Personally would offer hall-johnson  one aswell, he's done nothing wrong and adds pace back there

Hooper has impressed me, and he's still young, but I think he's already under contract anyway isn't He?

Yesterday I thought he was the stand out performer out of both teams, one of which will be in the play-offs. To me, that says he's well worth another contract.

Dont know about dembele? He doesnt want to be here, he hasnt done ANYTHING since January. I know about the fishy obsession with home grown players but max wright has fone well at scarbrough, how many levels below? Why do people think he is going to come back and set the world alight. For me let go. meep macca- though i have heard other offers have been made. Zak Mills, Hall Johnson, fox, summerfield and then start again.  Give clifton another year see if he can really push on now, would also like to see Davies retained, i really like him but i dont see it happening

Certainly deserves a new contract as he is one of the very few players whose commitment has never been questioned by the fans this season. In reality today demonstrated that he is best suited to playing further forwards in a midfield three as when he plays deeper that odd misplaced pass or miss control he does most games can be more costly.

Agree he does not score enough goals but he does switch play well and playing further forward gives him the freedom to be more creative.

So worth a contract and other signings and team formation will determine if he will be a regular starter.

Mitch Rose has potential to improve, as well as a fantastic long throw as a weapon. Will be interesting if Jolley sees enough in him to give him another year. He dipped badly along with the rest of the squad during the 20 game run so perhaps it's too little too late.

Is there a definitive list anywhere of players already contracted for next year?

Going to assume all loanees won't be returning and ignore the fact some are already contracted:

Keep:
Macca
Killip
RHJ
Fox
Summerfield
Rose
Clifton
Woolford
Hooper
Cardwell
Wright

I would like to keep Collins and Davies around the place if that suited them.

Evolution not revolution.

I don't think there is. He doesn't have the awareness or brain to play centrally when you have to know what's behind you as well as in front. However, there is definitely potential for a winger. He's much improved playing out left where the game is generally in front of him. He's got another year anyway so will be interesting to see what MJ can get from him as he's got some of the raw attributes needed for professional football.

Under jolley, I've grown fonder of some of the players. You only have to look at the celebrations to see how much it meant. I particularly liked Summerfield and fox rolling around on the floor. Right now, I would disagree that we need wholesale changes. Keep a core squad whom won't be on massive wages after this season, but jolley has proven he can get performances out of them at this level. Then add extra quality for each position. I think it's important to keep some for team spirit as much as anything else.

I think you’ll be in a small minority with that one. For what it’s worth, I think he’s been easily our best player all season. Probably one of the best in the whole division and a model of consistency. Some people seem hell bent on finding fault with him, but I think it’s significant that our upturn in form has more or less coincided with his return after injury. I’m a great admirer of James Mckeown, but I’d be disappointed if his recent run of form robs Summers of the Player of the Season award that he so richly deserves.

Bearing in mind the upturn in form in recent weeks, I think we'll see more of the current squad retained than I anticipated a month or two ago. I'm generally OK with this.

However, we've a lot of weaknesses which need to be addressed - no pace at the back (or in the squad in general, for that matter), not enough goals from midfield (penalties from Rose aside) and little threat in attack. I wonder if Akeem Rose will be able to add something next season? We've certainly waited long enough to find out!

Lots of work to be done this summer. Let's hope we put on another good showing next week at FGR to finish on a real high and Jolley can then get down to the important work.

Macca has a big offer on the table elsewhere (not Shrewsbury), Town getting back to him today with a revised deal but looks like he will be moving on, saving grace might be that his kids are settled in the area and if town can come close to keeping him with a good offer, but money talks especially in football, and given his performances you can't blame him if hes going to double his wages. His performances warrant a transfer fee so to lose him on a free for the sake of a few thousand would be poor business sense. Give this man a 3 year contract, a bit of security with a decent pay rise. He deserves it.

Judging by his post match interview, I don't think he he will be letting Wilko go. He was praising the backroom staff and saying how important Wilko will be in helping him decide who to retain.

For me as another poster says it should be "evolution not revolution" some players have looked very different under MJ in terms of performance.

A complete re-build may not necessarily be the way forward as you'll not only have to gel the players on the pitch you'll have to bond them as a squad, there appears to be a decent spirit within the dressing room ATM and some of that needs to be retained. Also the more we bring in the longer it takes so we could be signing players "last minute.com" which has hurt us in terms of quality in the last 2 years.

However though yesterday we showed improved creativity we are not sharp enough in front of goal and do not have a natural finisher in the squad, we need at least 2 players with the quality to score goals at this level, recruiting those will not be an east task.

So keep,

Macca
Killip
Mills
RHJ
Foxy
Summers
Cardwell
Clifton
Dembelle

Not sure about Rose and Wright but as one has possibly cost us money in permit fees and the other has been out on a season long loan I'd suggest we retain them.

Also I wouldn't have said this 6 weeks ago but I'd be trying to keep Davis and/or Collins around in some way as it appears their experience has been invaluable.

The first couple of bits of business I'd like to see is Macca on a new deal, ideally 3 years, Summers retained and us back in for Charlie Verman on a season long from Derby.

Dont let euphoria cloud judgement as much as the players have given everything yesterday we were in this mess for a reason.

Only a few would make the cut imo and jolley has to and im sure will bring in better players.

Macca - 2 year deal
Killip - release (we need a better back up)

RHJ - 2 year deal
Davies - 1 year player coach? Can cover 3 positions , good squad member
Mills - 2 year
Clarke - release but thanks for last 6 weeks
Collins - 1 year possibly
Osborne - release
Fox - 1 year
Dixon - try to move on as under contract

Dembele - activate the extra year
Wright - 1 year deal
Clifton - 2 year deal
Berrett - release
Mccalister - release
Rose - under contract and would keep
Summers - 1 year deal
Woolford - release but thanks for last 6 weeks
Kelly - under contract but look to move on
Hooper - under contract and keep (much improved last 6 weeks, still young and decent enough squad member)

Cardwell - under contract and would keep
Vernon - release
McSheffrey - release

Wouldn’t look To sign any of the loan players

For me, we would then need 7/8 players of quality. A better back up keeper (possibly season long loan) , 2 centre backs with pace. 2 central midfielders and 2 strikers

The last few weeks have shown that players can seem terrible when badly managed.  At this level, there isn’t a big difference between the players at different ends of the league with the occasional exception of players passing through to better things.  Good man management, good coaching, belief and clear instructions on playing style can make a massive difference - as the last few weeks have shown.  The last weeks have also required a bit of character and grit and many of the players have manned up.  (Interesting that MJ gave a chance to two players that the fans thought should be playing - Clifton and McAlister.  One has become a regular and the other is back in the reserves.  Maybe he isn’t the saviour after all).

We need to retain a core of players from this season as complete clear outs rarely work.  Build on the positivity of the last few games and focus on finding a handful of quality players who will add the icing on the cake.

Find it insane that some think Summers isn’t deserving of a contract. The guy has bust a gut for us all season, improved massively and I’ve lost count how many MOM performances he gave. Even during our terrible patch, he was often the only one who shone.

I imagine Jolley would be looking to bring in some younger exciting talent, but you need experienced heads in there too.

Exciting times now anyway, looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.

I do wonder about Woolford too. Has been below par a lot of the season, and not in the squad for a lot of the season too...but am I right in thinking he’d barely played for 2 seasons before Slade just chucked him in?

Maybe along with the position and formation change, we’re starting to see a quality player who has done the business in higher leagues  finally reach full fitness and get his mojo back.

Suspect it may be too little too late though.

I've been a big critic of Woolford since he came but have changed my view since Jolley took over. Russell " spit " Slade used him as a winger, which is a role a believe he has played most of his career. He doesn't have the pace to play that role anymore but his experience and ability comes into play in the role that Jolley has given him. I don't know if he is worth another season but if Jolley re-signed him then I wouldn't be disappointed.

I think if they’re ok with not being regular starters then we could do a lot worse than having a Woolford/Clarke/Collins/Davies on the bench ready to see a game out, or breathing down the necks of some more younger talent on the pitch to keep them on their toes.

I Agree, I thought Woolford was still signed for next season but clearly not. In the last few games he has shown that he is a decent footballer when playing a more central role. I think that MJ will look to bring the average age of the squad down so doubt he'll get a deal .

There's certainly a striker in hooper somewhere, under the right manager he could be useful

Heard last night that Macca is away to Motherwell, and that Shaun Pearson may be returning. This is from a guy who told my brother on the friday night before the Blackpool game that Bignot was being sacked and Slade coming back, so he has form for being correct.

I'm sure there will be plenty of rumours doing the rounds now we can all breathe a sigh of relief an concentrate on next season.

The truth is no-one has a clue about the budget. If Fenty ups the budget significantly then we'll be looking for a higher class of player than we've got at the moment.

We could always use the budget better and not sign a shed load of mediocre players who drain the budget. Accrington and Wycombe being examples of clubs that make the most of their money.

He's not quick enough to be a winger anymore but is skillfull and if MJ cant get a younger version of the same quality fine by me. We need good passers in midfield now we are a footballing team rather than hoofball. We do need to bring the age of our players down though and add energy and speed

Agreed, it would be a crime if Summerfield does not get a 2 year deal, absolutely deserved. Absolutely great this season in a struggling team. Needs to add a couple of goals but otherwise outstanding commitment utm also special mention to Collins, again brilliant

Wouldn't give Summerfield a 2 year deal. He's 31 in December, it's a bit of risk at that age.

I've changed my mind regarding Summerfield. Based not just on ability but on his desire and drive. When we scored yesterday, he went mental. I can see he cares, that's enormous for me. Similar with James McKeown who is our longest serving player and leads. There's two of your spine. For me, you sort the spine out first then the wings.

My retained list is short, massive rebuilding job. But I have respect now for this squad after despising the majority of them for most of the season. They have given their all and I thank them for their efforts.

I would want to retain James McKeown, Zac Mills, Andrew Fox, Danny Collins, Luke Summerfield, Mitch Rose, Reece Hall Johnson, Harry Clifton. You'd have to keep Siriki Dembele for his potential.

I hear good things about Jack Keeble, hope he's retained and given an opportunity, he'll learn from Danny Collins.

I like the list Vicar and I think I would agree with you. Collins would be the only one I would um and ar over, he's 37 now? I think I heard someone say to me the other day but if he was on the bench to come off if theres an injury or something then yes.

Yep, he's knocking on but he has been very consistent and is classy. He is a leader through the spine, maybe he would benefit from playing alongside a quicker centre back but I'd have no qualms about a new deal for him.

No way should he rip this team apart as some would want, there are players there who in the last few weeks have put the past behind them and have kept the club alive playing in some cases promotion seeking teams, the ones who have not been playing a part in this are the ones who should be first to go, and I`m sure that will be in MJ`s planning.
My thoughts are that we need another experienced keeper, a midfield playmaker,  two out and out goal poachers, and a quick imposing centre back. I would think we could release six or seven of the existing squad without damaging the team spirit built up under MJ

Hopefully out of respect players won't be told until after the Forest Gump game but I am hoping Macca, Killip, Zac, Collins, Summers, Clifton, Mitch Rose, Hall Johnson, Fox, Dembele, Woolford, at least get a new contract and stay Hooper already has a year but we definitely need a decent striker.

I wonder what Jolley would have got out of Jones and Jamie Osborne? We will never know.

When the going gets tough, Summers is the man you want in your team. Committed, fit and drives others on. Yes could chip in with a few more goals.  Good captain material. His mate from York (Berrett) will have to go though.

I'm not sure how a straight question could be termed as interrogation but I do think if someone posts a rumor they'll always get challenged.

Macca is a given, good season. I really hope he stays. Killip didn't do a lot wrong when he deputised. If he's prepared to be reserve then I see no reason not to offer him another contract.

I wouldn't keep both Mills and RHJ because I'm not sure I'd be looking for either of them to be first choice. RHJ has certainly played well these last 5 or so games though. Fox has done very well and as his fitness has increased game-on-game, he has got better and better and looks solid. Collins has been the better of the CBs and his experience could be invaluable. Possibly not first choice though.

Summerfield is one of the few players whose performances remained decent (only lacking goals), even in our long winless run so I would hope he is offered another year. Rose has performed well since Jolley arrived but he wasn't great for large parts of the season. I think I would offer him a new 1 year contract but he wouldn't be in my mind as first choice. Woolford, though he has undoubtedly performed a lot better since moving inside, I don't think has been as good as Summerfield and Rose and I think Jolley will be looking for better, especially with Clifton waiting in the wings for a more central berth. Dembele will get his year activated I think but needs to show a lot more next year if he wants to move beyond L2.

Up top, Hooper and Cardwell are under contract but are not to be considered starters for me. We won't be seeing Matt and Vernon again. Maybe Wilks and Vernam will be looked at again for next season. MJ will be looking to add 2 quality strikers, that is for sure.

Not sure you sign anyone as backup or 'not a starter'?
You must sign players to play in the first eleven - all 18/20 of them. Then it is up to them to fight to be the starting team.
Jolley has also shown he will pick teams for specific opposition so someone who starts against one team may be seen as less suitable against someone else

I agree with all of those, plus Mitch Rose is contracted for next season anyway so no problem there. The club can activate Dembele's one-year contract extension clause.

Paul Dixon, Sam Kelly, Harry Cardwell, Jon Hooper all contracted for one more season; it will be interesting to see if Jolley has leeway financially in terms of possible agreements to move any contracted players on.

Why? Because you don't want to believe it? Do you really believe that teams and agents wait until a contract has fully expired to begin negotiating?

And if he's not then we can all moan about how long his contract is and how much it'll cost to get rid of him. A lot of people jumping the gun, next season when he can build his own team and show if he has what it takes to turn things around and make GTFC a legitimate L2 team worthy of challenging will tell a lot more.

Though I suppose the real question is how much support he'll really have when the wage demands of the players we need come in. RS was not entirely to blame for the recruitment being poor since many of his top targets rejected us because we offered less than average compared to other teams in our division.

Yes...as has been already said on here, non of this six month rolling with Jolley please, just think how much money he has saved the club.

The club got their fingers burned giving Newell 3 1/2 years. I think rolling contracts are ok as they protect both parties to an extent, but maybe Jolley is one worth tying down for longer?

Some mangers just seem to have that x factor that bonds them with the fans. Hurst never had it. McMenemy had it in bucket loads.

Why? Because you don't want to believe it? Do you really believe that teams and agents wait until a contract has fully expired to begin negotiating?

Do you really want me to answer those questions or is it just you're a bit of a pedant?

And if he's not then we can all moan about how long his contract is and how much it'll cost to get rid of him. A lot of people jumping the gun, next season when he can build his own team and show if he has what it takes to turn things around and make GTFC a legitimate L2 team worthy of challenging will tell a lot more.

Assuming it is true about the wages we offered, why didn't Slade go back to the board and offer a slimmed down squad on better wages instead of signing as many as Bignot?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

Where's Bentley when you need him.

I'm hoping MJ is a little less sentimental and a bit more ruthless than the lists I've seen on here. Yeah we've improved and we've scrapped for the odd win and draw, but the majority of the current squad are too slow or way off the quality needed for us to be a consistent progressive team..

Think the present team, now they are organised and motivated are decent enough as shown yesterday. Notts have hardly been out of the top 7 all season yet they are pedestrian and lack finesse

If McKeown does leave Mitch Walker of Dover might be worth a look has kept the most clean sheets in the National  League and out of contract.

I think he will be ruthless. There was a point in his post match interview where he diplomatically avoided a question about re-signing those out of contract. I may have read it wrong but I think there will be a substantial overhaul.

I agree with all of those, plus Mitch Rose is contracted for next season anyway so no problem there. The club can activate Dembele's one-year contract extension clause.

Paul Dixon, Sam Kelly, Harry Cardwell, Jon Hooper all contracted for one more season; it will be interesting to see if Jolley has any leeway financially in terms of any possible agreements to move contracted players on.

Mitch as proved he is the man to take a penalty under pressure we would be in a sorry state without those last three.

One major problem is that there so many players the wrong side of 30, and many of those are the most influential performers.the big unknown is how mj thinks these players compare to his Swedish squad and the Burnley under 23s and whether or not the present squad can be improved through his coaching.
Finally let's be clear headed - the defence is too old, there is no pace in the side, no creativity and a complete lack of goalscorer so he's got an awful lot of decisions to make

We really do love a good obsession with players returning!

I think we need to thank the majority of the players for the effort and determination since jolley joined, we all genuinely appreciate it, thank you.

However the majority are also not good enough.

If fenty is serious about this, he needs to pay off some of those under contract i.e Kelly and let Jolley not have any deadwood in the building.

We also need to be realistic in that we only just survived, so it won't be easy to convince players that won't happen again, but I believe in Jolley, and hope he gets the help from the boardroom.

I think it is help from all of us that is needed.
I don't want Fenty increasing his loans to the club I want us to be able to give Jolley a decent budget by way of fantastic season ticket sales, increased shirt sales. Maybe Jolley can give an interview how he wants the Pontoon to be a sea of black and white shirts and the club respond with an offer to make it easier.
Maybe the Trust can sort a fund raiser for specifics? Buy a share for your child's birthday? Anything to boost the coffers without increasing the debt.
Borrowing money isn't a sensible or sustainable way forward but each and every one of the fans doing just a little more can be he difference

Find it a bit hard to believe Motherwell have offered terms to another teams player before his contract has expired.

Players in the last 6 months of their contract are allowed to discuss terms with other clubs. They do not have to wait for their contract to expire. So it’s not difficult to believe at all.

This is what I thought too- having heard him on the podcast earlier this year too would imagine it would take something massive to get him to move. Just look at his sprint to join the celebrations when Matt scored yesterday. Having said that JT is on twitter saying Macca might be moving too... seems odd...

Additionally Motherwell s number one Trevor Carson  signed a three year deal at the beginning of the season and has even been capped this year for NI- seems a long way to move to Motherwell to warm the bench...

Would Motherwell be in a position to double his wages, really? They get less gates than Town and are only a mid table side in the Old Firm is a mix of L1 & L2 standard at best. Keepers are not usually the ones who get money thrown at them, strikers are.

Uproot your family for 4 years in Scotland, you'd get less for robbing a post office Then again he would get 8 big games a year, 4 versus Rangers and 4 versus Celtic.

Get him on a 3 year deal with Town and up his wages, nothing to do with keeping him he just deserves it.

Yeah, I've just looked at his stats; Mitch Rose has scored 4 goals from open play and 4 penalties out of 4 scored. 7 of those goals have provided Grimsby Town with 17 points, including 5 match winning goals.

35.42% of our points to be precise!

I appreciate 4 of them have been penalties but I always used to think Disley scored important goals (winners, equalisers or the first goal in a victory).  Since Jolley got the speaker in and took the players to Cranwell, his mentality has been much stronger.  His newly found ability to chuck the ball has virtually made him first name on the team sheet.

Have heard;
Clifton isnt on a great deal with us and has other suitors lining him up.
McKeown weighing up his options.
Collins is on his way.

Also several other intruiging rumours involving former board members, court cases, inland revenue ...could be an interesting Summer.

Personally regards contracts....in all honesty...over the course of the season...i think there is only Summerfield who has consistently stood out....very few, if any, of the seasons squad  have "earned" a new contract IMO. Hall Johnson i like the look of and he is still young so on what i have seen to date worth keeping.
Dembele i would extend if only for the fact that he has been catching the eye and now his first season is out of the way and under Jolley he may improve his end product, which will either help us open teams up and/or make him profitable come next January.

All the rest in all honesty have proven over a season that they arent good enough.  The whole bunch lacks pace, power and guile for me so wouldnt be too sad if virtually none are kept on....its a darn pity we are gonna be stuck with some in reality.

I would be more inclined to see him go to Hull City as McGregor is going to Rangers and the Targers are skint also Steve Croudson knows all about James.

Hate to say it but, Goodbye James. Deserved more but Club still being run like it's non league. Thank you for helping us get out of non league and your service for the past few years, know it wasn't always easy. Always be a Grimsby Town Legend. All the best for future. UTM

Radio Humberside lost all credibility for me on Saturday when Matt Dean asked on air if Michael Jolley was being paid.

Have heard;

Thanks for the 'have heard'.

Regarding contracts - MJ has changed the 'whole bunch' from being natural relegation fodder to a competitive L2 team, though.
You could argue logically that retaining the majority ought to see us safe from relegation (assuming we can find a goalscorer).
Except we have a number of players for whom one more year might be one too many.

I think we simply have to trust the manager....and be fair to him, we should recognize that this is an area where he's relying on instinct a fair bit.

If he opts for a mass clearout that's fine with me, but if he thinks he just needs two or three quality (at this level) players to help bring out the best from
what he's already got - I'd trust him on that too.

I worry that some of his plans may get hampered/thwarted by boardroom-level distractions/inertia.
(I had that worry before I read what you put btw.)

As you said, an interesting summer seems likely...

Imagine of Macca and Clifton both leave us, would be another GTFC intercourse up, similar to the Podge and Pearson fiasco

Clifton was rightly on a lowly paid contract, as a young pro with no first team experience. I expect him to be offered a substantially increased contract and for him to stay. Where is he going to go on hugely better money, with a manager who rates him and where he will get terrific support from the fans.

Macca"s different. IF he is being offered £2-3k per week and a 3 year + deal then he has to seriously consider it. Town should not IMO, be paying anyone £150k pa to play in the 4th division. If he goes, he goes with thanks.
It wasn't too long ago when many in this board were saying they would retain him but only as back up to a new number 1 who can dominate his box! Since he came back from injury ( many said he wouldn't play again this season) he has been in the best form of his life. There weren't many saying give him a 3 year deal pre Christmas.

After the last few weeks I have genuine hope that Jolley will get a team that is well organised, knows their roles and responsibilities and plays at a high tempo. If he can do this we will challenge for the play offs

Why do some people think we're too good for some of the players we already have (ie summer field) we are Grimsby town. We are not massive and got loads of money. Summer field would be a good player for any team in this league with his effort and work rate alone.

Gonna be an interesting summer by the looks of it, if the board backs the manager can see decent season ticket sales this summer who would have thought that a couple of months back..
First contract offer should be to get MJ on a 3 year contract got the feeling he could do something special here.

Its a tough one, a rolling 6 month contract in theory never ends unless 1 side of the party wants it to and ends it. 3 year contract short term is good because more often than not you've tied that manager down for 2 years, no one will try steal a manager with more than 1 year on his contract.

Don’t think Clifton will go but having said that other clubs have definitely enquired/looked at him recently so we need to be on it and tie him down for longer , Macca on the other hand if those sort of wages are being offered he’s gone imo

If you remember Pearson turned down a massive offer from the Village Idiots to stay with us, family being settled and genuinely liking playing for that club do matter.

I hope in the case of Pearson Town do go back and get him rightfully installed as Captain on a 2-3 year deal.

Leadership and a fantastic man to have around the club. Is he good enough to play week in week out at the top end of League 2?

I'm not certain and if i was having to pay a feee then I would want them to be the first name on the team sheet

Well we all see things different BUT whilst here he would have been my first choice CB week in week out.Shaun did what it said on the tin he tackled he headed and he defended true he wasn`t the best on the ball but neither was Mark Lever and he did alright. With SP we know what were getting and it`s better than a journeyman with no interest in our Club.

Difficult one this now because we've seen how good some of these players can be under a manager who gets something out of them.  Clarke was derided by the majority, myself included, for most of the season yet under Jolley he's looked solid and very capable.  Woolford has brought a calming influence in our midfield and along with Summerfield has dictated our tempo and style of football from that central role in recent games.

But we need to kick on.  Our form has been good of late but that has come more through grinding out than a sudden improvement in the quality we offer (although that has improved greatly).  There's still a huge imbalance in the squad and we lack key attributes (pace and creativity).

Goalkeeper  - Killip under contract and I thought he looked promising enough so happy with that one.  McKeown I will be disappointed to see go but purely taking away the emotional attachment I think we can replace.

Full backs - Hall-Johnson has impressed albeit still very raw but worthy of another year. Mills I would keep for his versatility but also because I think he's a fine footballer.  With Jolley signing off on the early operation I suspect he is someone he wants to keep.  Ben Davies hasn't done anything wrong but we need to look towards a younger side and unless he's prepared to take a pittance as a squad player I think we say goodbye.  Fox has got better with each game so I wouldn't be disappointed if he was kept, nor surprised.

Centre backs - Clarke is one of the, if not the, most improved players under Jolley but I can't see him getting another deal.  Just because we need pace, I can't imagine both him and Collins getting deals.  If it comes down to a straight choice the sensible money is on giving Collins a deal but how much longer can he go on?  Wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of our centre backs don't get deals.

Wingers - Kelly under contract but imagine Jolley will look to offload if possible.  Dembele at the very least I imagine we'll exercise the extra year just to safeguard against anyone taking him off us for nothing.  The lad had a poor second half of the season but struggling with injury and was always going to burn out at some point.  Wright I would like to see given a chance here as opposed to on loan somewhere, even if it's just for six months which I suspect may well be the deal offered to him.   Clifton will surely get a deal, impressed whilst out of position and also ticks the box for a homegrown talent in the 18.  I'll be very disappointed if he's not retained.

Central midfield - Rose under contract which leaves McAllister, Berrettt, Woolford, Clements and Summerfield.    McAllister has less chance of getting a deal than I do!  Clements' wage and location will rule him out, whereas Berrett has had a fair crack under Jolley and was then left out the squad.  No great loss there.  Woolford has done well in a central role but we need to look to upgrade to a more athletic side I'm afraid.  Last few games have shown what a good player Woolford was and I reckon he would have been a major asset when he had a yard of pace. Summerfield should get a deal, not just because he's actually cared all season but because he's shown he's a good player.  The criticism against him is that he doesn't score or create enough goals, but that's not his job.  His job this season was to screen the back four and turn play over, which he's done excellently.

Attackers - Only Cardwell and Hooper under contract and to be honest Cardwell's the only one I would want to keep.  Hooper has shown improvements under Jolley but he's not good enough to be a starter and I think we could be get far better as alternative options.

So for me: Mills, Fox, Hall-Johnson, Summerfield, Clifton, Wright.  Wouldn't be surprised if work is done to offload Kelly and Dixon, with Killip, Cardwell and Hooper already under contract.  9 players isn't a lot and definitely gives a lot of scope for Jolley to put his own mark on it.

I think bigger clubs will if they think it's worth getting the man they want and are prepared to pay for it.

i'd agree almost totally with that diehard. the only quibble would be hooper. i looked at his wiki page and he's only 24 and still hasn't played 100 league games. what i'm saying is that he is possibly not the finished article and jolley seems quite keen to play him, especially wide left. it will all depend, imho, whether or not jolley feels there is more to come and that he can coach him to further improvement (plus we don't know if jolley already knows a better left sided attacker). other than that i'd agree with your 'keeps and discards'

ps think there's a good chance we will get vernham back. that would be a good addition as i thought he was the one player who showed fight, pace and creativity when we were really struggling

I think Hooper showed against Notts County that he can be very effective in the role that Jolley played him in.

I think most would agree before MJ was appointed the Fishy in general wanted most players gone,

Now we have seen they were just badly coached most of them are OK,

So I expect 5 or 6 will be offered new deals along with the ones that are already contracted,

That leaves another 7 or 8 signings needed,

With Rose and Wright making the numbers up,

A leaner meaner squad that will have youth and speed on its side.

We may well offer contracts to some of those who's deals are expiring but whether they take them or not is a different matter as we know from Pode, Toto, Arnold,  Tait etc

Hooper has been a much better player once the responsibility of goal scoring has been lifted from him. Playing out wide has seen him transformed, and he created 2 or 3 excellent opportunities for others on Saturday. His over the top pass to Rose was brilliantly executed. If you look at his youtube goals clips, he scored a few goals cutting in from the left and hitting right foot shots across the keeper. He does have a powerful shot as we have seen a couple of times this season. I think with a bit more confidence, there is a lot more to come from him yet.

i'd agree almost totally with that diehard. the only quibble would be hooper. i looked at his wiki page and he's only 24 and still hasn't played 100 league games. what i'm saying is that he is possibly not the finished article and jolley seems quite keen to play him, especially wide left. it will all depend, imho, whether or not jolley feels there is more to come and that he can coach him to further improvement (plus we don't know if jolley already knows a better left sided attacker). other than that i'd agree with your 'keeps and discards'

ps think there's a good chance we will get vernham back. that would be a good addition as i thought he was the one player who showed fight, pace and creativity when we were really struggling

Hooper just needs to improve his finishing and then he could be a dangerous player with the ball on the deck. He is not a target man so depends how MJ wants to play. He has looked dangerous cutting in from wide areas.

So just out of interest what happens if Jolley has his sights set on a keeper much better than Mckeown? even a squad much better than we have?
Being at Burnley and having the contacts from the squads around the U23 league system and also some Premiership squads maybe he demands enough respect to get some cracking players in, some released by the big clubs some on loan that want to come and play for him regardless of the town he is managing in.

I dint think we are setting our sights high enough now after what has been a dreary season.

Truth be told i dont think he will keep too many of the current players and may even see Dembele depart as he may have looked good when he arrived but a garbage since.

Will be an exciting pre season for sure i think and a lot of people may be suprised, after all the guy came from the cut throat world of banking so wont be scared to make decisions.

If Mckeown goes, then i will say thanks for your efforts and good luck. I never get hung up on players leaving as it happens all the time in football. If a player does well and gets the chance to better his circumstances, than all power to him, it's a short career. I will be chuffed if he stays, because he has become a club stalwart and one of our longest serving players, but if he leaves, then it's a chance for a new hero to become part of our history. We have had many great keepers over the years and i'm sure we could find another.

Saturday was probably the best Town have played for a long time not just this season,  under MJ  our players are becoming a team that can/could  hold its own  against  most.  Why do we insult these players  by in  public/ fishy  slagging them off and naming players that you want to be rid of with a game to go. They got the result we the fans wanted and did it in style, playing with their hearts  and showed guts, which had been lacking pre MJ. I understand  we require some new players next season , but under MJ  some of our existing players (as shown Saturday) can still be part of a successful  promotion chasing team. Don`t  blame all the players for Slades  inability  to motivate and organise . ( for instance Macca  slagging , now suddenly  hes the best and most passionate  keeper in the world ). Positive words help and go along way to breed confidence as MJ as shown.   Please be realistic . !!!!!

Fair points regards Hooper, I just think there's far too much inconsistency in his game. On Saturday he went on a really positive solo run that saw the ball just trickle across the face of the goal.  Next opportunity he pretty much opted out of running at the same defender despite having him on toast a matter of minutes before.

I guess the question is how much can Jolley do with him, both in terms of application and confidence (which I agree is a big factor for the lad) and is it enough to achieve the levels expected on a consistent basis?  For what it's worth, I don't think we would find a suitor for him even if Jolley did try to offload him so we'll get to see what impact Jolley can have on him over a longer period.

Its probably because over 40+ games this season they have proved not to be good enough really, a couple of improved results and performances in the last couple of weeks of the season don't hide that......funny how players always seem to work extra hard when they realise their contracts are up and a relegation might appear on their CV isnt it ?
MJ has improved things from a basic organisation level which has helped but that entire squad has now produced a total sum of 1 epic performance at home ALL SEASON, coincidentally in the biggest home game of the season.

Would you dish out longer/extended/ renewed contracts based on that ?

I am sure MJ  will base his offers on what he has seen since he arrived,

Don't forget the players were only following Slades's orders when hoofing it up in the air.

If Macca has a 3 year double his money offer he would be silly not to take it,

Town can not afford to do that for one player and it would be unfair on the rest of the players if they did.

Macca has been a good keeper for town and was excellent when we were non-league. He has also proved that he can handle playing at League 2 level but I think that is his limit. I still think he isn't strong enough or commanding in the 6 yard area. Also , as proved on Saturday, he sometimes makes rash decisions which will get punished especially against good opposition. If we want to just coast along in League 2 then he is ok but if we have aspirations of League 1 or higher then , unfortunately, we need better.

My take on this is - this season we started with a mid table side. We were horrendously managed by Slade that led to our near relegation. Fortunately jolley has got the best of this side. If we want to be challenging at the right end of the table we will need better players, but I would prefer a excellent additions that replacing like with like. Evolution not revolution basically.

I think most of us would prefer evolution rather than revolution but I'm not sure that's an option.

Our goalkeeper is, by all accounts, set to leave.
Our first choice centre-backs will be 35 and 38 before the calendar year is out.
Our midfield spine is debatable, badly lacking any creativity.
Our attacking options are limited to a lad yet to score his first professional goal (not counting the Check-a-trade guff) and another who's hardly set the world alight in his six years as a professional.

Jolley has hinted that it won't be a complete overhaul of the squad but I'm struggling to see how else it can go.

I think there might be. He very telling said that he will base new contract offers not just on his time here, but on the whole 9 month season. To me that suggests very few out of contract players will be retained.

It's exactly how I see it.

The past few games showed us more about the qualities of our manager rather than the players. He drew every ounce of talent and effort out of the current squad to cobble together a couple of narrow nailbiting victories and a few backs to the wall draws. It's hardly a sound base to build a promotion chasing squad. Hats off to the players for their recent efforts, but I can't see more than two, three or four being good enough to be starters in a side at the right end of the table that regularly dominates and wins games at this level.

I wouldn't like to identify who I'd like us to keep at this stage, but will be intrigued to see MJ's retained list. It will definitely give us an idea about his vision for the future, how ruthless he is, and maybe a little insight into the kind of budget he'll have to play with..

We have not been convincing all season have we, even under Jolley? We never go out and win by 2,3, or 4 goals and coast in games. All the wins that have kept us up have been 1 goal margins, and all had an element of luck about them. We just don't have the players with the presence of mind to pick the right options at the right times, which is why we struggle to score enough goals. I feel we do need a big clear out, but maybe not quite as big as it once appeared. There will be an element of budget restrictions and having to go for 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th choice targets, but we desperately need some pace, guile and goalscoring ability in the side. We also need some more mobile defenders.

I can't see us keeping Collins for another season but wish him well as he's done a good job for us over the past couple of seasons. Clarke has done OK in fits and starts, but does have quite a few errors in him and he's no spring chicken. If we were to keep him for another season, I'd be OK with that but we'll need somebody younger and more athletic alongside him. Osborne has barely played and has looked rather rusty when he has so I'd be surprised if he was signed again. Davies is still a clever player and is versatile but he's 37 this month and isn't going to get any quicker. My preference would be to release him, but I'd understand if he did stay. Dixon just hasn't done well for us despite his decent pedigree, probably because the rest of our defence is lacking in pace as well. Would be best if he was to leave and I don't doubt he will be looking for a move back to Scotland if rumours about his family moving back are to be believed. I'd certainly keep both Mills (who is a decent full-back) and RHJ who has shown some great potential. Hopefully, his injury at the weekend wasn't too bad. RHJ is quicker but Mills is better in the air. I do wonder if Mills might also be able to play in a central defensive three if required? Good enough in the air and a bit quicker across the ground than most central defenders. Fox has been excellent since he joined and I'd be happy to see him stay. Not, perhaps quick, but certainly not slow and he's deceptive when going forward, often beating his man.

For the midfield, it's difficult. Summerfield, I would certainly keep as he's improved a great deal this season and has cut out most of the errors which plagued him initially. Clifton has looked a very good young prospect and will surely be kept as well - very cool-headed considering his lack of experience and he has good feet and plenty of ability as well as being capable of the physical side of things. If we're going to be passing the ball a lot more next season (hopefully!), he's the sort of player we'll need. Rose is a bit of a conundrum for me. A month ago, I'd have said get rid because, though he may be able to take a good penalty, his stamina levels were very poor and he was often extremely clumsy - a bit of a carthorse at times. However, he seems to have lasted a bit better over the past few games and, of course, the long throw can be a real asset in attacking situations and the time taken to wind them up helps to relieving pressure as well. Question is, can I see us pushing for promotion, even via the play-offs with all 3 of these players starting together in midfield? Not so sure. Dembele has received more praise than he has been due at times because he was pretty dreadful for much of the season after a promising start. He needs to work very hard on his first touch, which tends to be dire, as well as his decision making. That said, we'll hopefully be on the front foot more next season so it would be interesting to see how Jolley can help him develop if he can sort out the back problem we've heard about. I'd also see how Wright does next season so would keep him until Christmas at least to see how he does.

For me, that would be it for the midfielders. Kelly is reasonably quick and skilful but achieves absolutely nothing and it's no surprise he has rarely been involved. Whether he'll see out his contract or we can move him on remains to be seen. I see Clements as the one who got away as he did really well for us last season (4 goals in 16 from central midfield is an excellent return). Whatever has gone on this season, I'm sure he'll get himself a new club somewhere. Time for Berrett to move on for me as well. A good pedigree but has rarely shown enough and we need better. McAllister was barely here and I wonder exactly what the story has been with him? It will be interesting to see if he gets himself a new time - possibly he'll go to a team in non-league? I'd also say goodbye to Woolford who has done decently in a midfield role in recent games but we can't be keeping ageing wingers to play in central midfield, especially when we need more pace and athleticism in the squad. Jiayesimi will be back to Norwich and I think there is certainly plenty of ability in there but he needs to achieve more when he has good bits of play. Plenty of almost moments. Perhaps another loan spell for him elsewhere.

Up front, I expect that the two under contract, Cardwell and Hooper, will stay but I don't expect to see anything more of the others. Jackson most likely to stay, I'd have thought. Both Cardwell and Hooper have potential but we've got to find some way of unlocking this and we badly need to add some pace as well. Vernon has given his best for us, but he's just not enough of a goal threat and Matt has been much too hit and miss, despite his winning goal the other day.

Massive overhaul ahead this summer so I hope Jolley has some targets in mind already.

In respect of new players I would love to see us show a statement of intent for someone like Caolan Lavery who has shown he probaly isnt up to Championship level but at his age could be a very good player with us.
The young winger who was on loan at Lincoln, Josh(?) Ginnelly?

From what i'm hearing, Clifton being here next season isn't certain. Again, we have a good young prospect on a pittance of a wage, and a certain local club have offered him over ten times what he is on here. Yet he couldn't even get a start here until Jolley came in. Macca's contract been allowed to run down. The whole club is cheapskate and short sighted. No wonder we can't attract good quality players.

If anyone is offering Clifton £2500/3000 per week they need their heads examining! Wonder what fee they would offer?

£300k plus add ons would be a good starting point

Would be sad to see Clifton go but we'd get a fee for him, which would be something, I suppose.

He's done well since he got into the team, but I'm surprised there is much interest from elsewhere already. Confident and capable young midfielders probably aren't exactly commonplace.

Getting that sort of transfer fee would be good business imho. Much as id like to see Clifton stay and develop he's not integral to the side and would fund up to half a dozen players ( or repay it a chunk of jfs loans! )

That fee would help rebuild a squad but look how the Bogle money was squandered and too be honest I would rather build my team with a Clifton in it.

Players in the last 6 months of their contract are allowed to discuss terms with other clubs. They do not have to wait for their contract to expire. So it’s not difficult to believe at all.

To correct you, players are only allowed to discuss terms with other clubs within a month of their contract expiring. Someone mentioned Sanchez to United being an example but there was a fee agreed with him and Jon Nolan was also only on a 6 month contract hence why he was allowed to discuss terms early.

Well, i maybe got a bit carried away with ten times his salary. It's actually about eight times. He is on only £180 per week apparently and has been offered £1500.

I've been hearing for a while how good a prospect he is, and that has been borne out by his appearances from what i've seen. This leads me to ask why it has taken so long for him to get a starting spot and why he is on such little money. I'm also a little taken aback that some think it's a good move to sell him on and get a fee, when we should be tying him down to a new deal, which he has more than earned. The person giving this info was not very complimentary about GTFC at all.

If a club in a higher division is willing to snatch him from us, doesn't that suggest that he is well worth fighting to keep, and isn't it symptomatic of why we never seem to progress?

Yeah, the 6 months thing is for non-english clubs (like the bloke at Cambridge who's signed a deal with Hearts)

The lad is a prospect, but surely no club in our league is offering him that sort of money. That would probably make him one of our highest earners and i am not sure Town could justify spending that on him.

fair play to him if he's been offered that as i dont think we could or would want to compete with that.

If MJ thinks he's a prospect and will be a regular starter next season, why not?

Much better to invest at the higher end of our wage structure with players that have a greater scope for improvement which could end up providing a future profitable saleable asset rather than investing in players toward the end of their careers with no scope for improvement or sell on value.

I'm not making a judgement on whether Clifton would be worth that or not, that's up to MJ, but surely it makes sounder financial sense to invest at the top end of our wage structure with the best young and upcoming players we can afford that are ready for first team action..

If a club is willing to offer him that amount of money, then a moderate transfer fee plus a sell-on clause would seem to be in order.

That fee would help rebuild a squad but look how the Bogle money was squandered and too be honest I would rather build my team with a Clifton in it.

As the club hasn't recieved all the Bogle transfer money it might be  tricky to squander

Doubt it - very rarely is a transfer fee not paid in instalments- very few clubs have that kind of cash in hand so they contract to pay in installments

This is though in part something I don't get about some posters assertions that the club pays for its self and you don't need someone with money to be there- how on earth do you sign players- even with installments there has to be some money to pay those and further more there's signing fees for players, agent fees etc etc

Just means that JF and his board of nodding donkeys get to waste it in stages as opposed to all in one go then !
Same result in the end.

There should be a bit of cash floating around from all the increased home gates in the last few weeks. I'm only guessing but looking at the attendances the gates must be at least 1000 over budget since MJ arrived.

Sacrifcied to where? If no one wanted them then its a case of paying off their wages for the remainder of the contract- is that helpful to cash flow? or is it just a big lump of cash that has to come from somewhere? What do we sacrifice in return for that?

For me, McKeown has to stay, I'd give him a 3-year contract with a big pay rise in order to make him feel wanted by the club. I'd also keep Killip as I don't see us getting a better reserve keeper, and I suspect he's cheap. Obviously send Kean back to Wednesday.

I'd keep Mills and RHJ but not Davies. Mills is versatile, he can play right back and on the right of a three-man central defence, he also did pretty well at left back at Carlisle. RHJ is also more athletic than any of our full backs and can also deliver a good cross, which is valuable weapon. His throw ins need work and his defensive play is ok but I'm hopeful it would improve. Bendy will be 37 next month and he seems to have struggled to get any consistent game time in the 2nd half of the season due to injuries, feel it could be one season too many. Collins is a real 50/50. If we were to retain, which I wouldn't be against, then we need someone more athletic next to him and a better shield from midfield, he'd prosper in that I'd imagine but Jolley needs to be sure he can get this before retaining I feel. I'd release Clarke, although he's improved recently, some of the stuff he produced before that was dire and that cannot be discounted. Osborne is a no-brainer to release as he's barely played and has dished up some performances equally as poor as Clarke when he has played. Suliman should be sent back as he didn't seem to have the physicality to play lower league football, that seems harsh but I’m basing this on about 60 minutes against Vale and there must be a reason he hasn’t played. Fox has improved with game time and he's much better than Dixon in every respect so I'd offer a new deal. I'd try and offload Dixon as he's allegedly a big earner and whenever he's played he's looked very suspect defensively and carries no threat going forward.

I'd offer Summerfield a 1-year deal with an option considering he's now 30 and I'm not certain that his high-intensity style can be maintained for 2 years, hence the caution of a 1+1 deal. I'd release Berrett, fallen completely out of favour and is very limited, we need better. Rose is contracted and I'd keep but as a backup. The last few weeks where he's scored a few penalties don't disguise that his touch remains very poor, his fitness lacking and can barely pass wind. So, in all honesty I'd try and ship him out. Clements and McAllister both go, they're as certain to go as anybody. Both would be ok I feel but for one reason or another it hasn't worked out for either here. I'd give Clifton a 3-year deal and substantially increase his wages as he's been very good these last few weeks and should develop exponentially while playing every week in his position and with a good coaching manager at the helm. Woolford is an interesting one. He's looked a different player since Jolley moved him to play on the left of a three-man midfield, he'll be 33 next season but still maybe a good squad player, Rose could be the limiting factor here, if we can ship him out I'd keep him but if we can't, sorry Martyn but we can't have squad players filling the starting XI.

Dembele is one of the most frustrating footballers I've come across, he has absolutely no guile and doesn't actually have great pace, just excellent instant acceleration. His decision making, final ball and touch are often very poor. But you can see the potential and part of me thinks that with a decent manager (Jolley) and maybe starting 20 yards higher up the pitch in a better side he'd look much, much better. I'm quite torn but would lean towards releasing him due to his clear lack of heart and seeming want-away attitude since Christmas. I'd offload Kelly, been anonymous whenever I've seen him play, he jumps out of tackles and never looks like creating or scoring anything. I'd send Jaiyasimi back as he hasn't had game time and when he has played hasn't created anything. I'd release McSheffrey too. Hasn't offered a great deal when he's played and will be 36 soon. I'd give Wright a year and see what happens, has put in some impressive displays for Scarborough and I'd want to see is his alleged quick and direct style could be effective in the league. Hooper has been transformed by Jolley as a winger, most of the time has looked extremely threatening. If he could get a couple of goals early next season then I feel his confidence would soar and he'd be really dangerous in this league. It's all about confidence with him. He's contracted and would keep. Wilks will be sent back, has been persistently injured and has looked very raw when he's played.

Cardwell is contracted and works extremely hard but never looks like scoring, would keep as a squad player and see if he can develop more and add goals to his game. There's certainly something to work with. Vernon should be released, he's also very limited and the Cambridge fiasco did irreparable damage to him with the fans. Despite the elation he caused, Matt also shouldn't be offered a contract, his touch is dreadful and his hold-up isn't great for a big man. We need better. I'd try and sign Vernam on a season long loan as he looked excellent and very creative when he played, would definitely develop under the right management. I'd also send Jackson back. He's perennially injured and has scored only one goal when he's played as doesn't offer much more of a threat IMO. I'd give Ahkeem Rose a year as he's earned it with a year of twiddling his thumbs and deserves a chance with us.

So to quantify all that:
I'd definitely try to keep McKeown, Killip, RHJ, Mills, Fox, Summerfield, Hooper, Cardwell and A. Rose.

I'd see what we could do before making decisions on Woolford, Collins, Rose and Dembele.

I'd try and sign Vernam on a season loan.

I'd release or try and offload everyone else.

That leaves us with between 10 and 14 players next season and Jolley can go and sign between 8 and 12 of his own men. We need a squad of a maximum of 22 players who are tight knit and all buy into Jolley's way of thinking and the fanbase can feel are part of our club.

I would keep only the players we have to because they are contracted. We are in the bottom few of division 4 for a reason - the players haven't been nearly good enough, despite Jolley getting more out of them, particularly for the Notts game.

We need to start again. There will be hundreds of players available soon. The right wages offered, with an exciting new manager who seems to be ticking all the boxes will open all sorts of new avenues to better players, hungrier players, younger players and quicker players.

Jolley himself has said he will judge them over the course of the season which surely means most of them will be released. If he keeps one or two who he really rates and think will fit into his plans then fair enough.

I would have thought that the lost revenue from the decreased gates bad feelings and probable lost season ticket renewal far outweighs the saving on the wage bill. So not only was the sacrifice in vain it was actually counter productive.

I will type this very slowly as I appreciate you cannot read very fast.

How on earth do you sign players? I would suggest you use the money from season ticket sales, commercial income and EFL distribution.
Signing on fees are paid over the duration of the contract and not in a lump sum on day one.
I maintain that someone has to underwrite the cash flow as John has done to £350k or thereabouts but there are people willing to do that if John is serious about stepping down. Maybe  John is more keen on stepping aside than those who attach themselves to his shirt tails?

When we sold Bogle most of that money was wasted on having a 30+ playing staff under Bignot and Slade,

Now we have just escape relegation with one game to go I can not see many clubs trying to sign our players apart from Macca,

So MJ will be able to keep the ones he wants and hopefully get some better ones in.

Mate, he won't get that because he's just countered his own argument! In an earlier post in this thread he made the point that you don't normally pay the whole transfer fee in one go, then said you need someone to provide the cashflow for it. He's also forgotten that the Bignot sale triggered signings.

As the club hasn't recieved all the Bogle transfer money it might be  tricky to squander

If that`s true remind me which mastermind oversaw the deal on Town`s behalf?

But of course with the oversized squad we all complained about that could have just about brought parity...

Who sanctioned the spend on the squad and where did the money come from if not the Bogle sale either way it`s more mismanagement surely? The fall out is most of the players brought in plus 2 managers have been shipped out in little over 18 Months resulting in a squandering of money and a downturn in results. We must do better this Club needs a proper professional working on contracts and a Manager and board who get transfers in/out to make a profit.UTM

Oh great,

'So Amber, it would appear that the club will be making several signings in the build up to the next season'

'Really ? I wasn't aware of that, certainly there was no players targeted that I knew of.  I don't have targets' definitely not.

On the Monday or Tuesday next week I hope.

By this time next week I expect to know who has been retained and who has been offered new contracts.

Why the secrecy? I'm certainly not mad but as a true town supporter I would like to know who is prepared to financially support the club if JF goes. It's no different to all the posters on here who demand to know everything that goes on at the club, especially at Board level.

Is there more than 1 person in the town with the money needed to buy JF out and then invest more? If there were such people attending matches im sure we would be aware of them.

As things stand, without the Trust having a controlling interest, you and I as supporters have no real say in who takes over.

There will be lots of reasons for secrecy at this stage so I'd let it lie for now.

At the time any interest is declared publicly, we should seek to find out about them, where the money comes from, what their background is, what drives them to put money into a football club, and make our feelings known. But sadly we won't be able to make any decisions as a collective body.

Probably quite a lot of people. The family seemed to be quite well known in Cleethorpes in the 70s, and I assume thereafter.

I was going to go through each player individually but others have done that already.

6 weeks ago I think most of us would have only kept a handful of the players on and said goodbye and good riddance to the rest. Such was our despair at what we were having to endure week in week out. But Jolley has squeezed so much out of the team. Players who had failed to impress or even look interested have shown something in recent weeks. Woolford, Hooper, Rose, Clarke amongst others have suddenly started to resemble professional footballers. As oftens happens a change of manager or change of scenery can have a big difference.

Jolley deserves much credit for the turnaround but its not just the new manager. Player confidence, fitness, belief as well. The last few games in particular the players have shown great character and resilience. To have kept going to the end v Chesterfield and to come back fighting after conceding late against Barnet and Notts Co....simply wouldnt have happened a few weeks back. Credit to the players.

Rather than go through the whole squad as to who we should try to keep or not I would instead say we need to get younger and more dynamic. Injection of pace throughout the team and in particular at the back required. More creativity in the middle of the park and a goal threat up front. We are crying out for a finisher (or two). Changes are required and some may be enforced. But maybe not to the extent i would have said 6 weeks ago. However you need to judge players of the season as a whole. Whilst many have  showed great improvement a handful of decent performances over a season is not enough.

Can't do the linky thingy but   annan sounds an interesting lad.there's a profile of him when he was part of the under 18 team.attacking creative midfielder who's an intelligent character.sounds like hed tick some of the boxes for a jolle y  type player.
The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is that there's sure to be some improvement under the present set of players once jolle y has had them for a whole pre season. Seems pretty clear from the interviews with Clarke and rose that they weren't working terribly hard under slade and part of the improvement under jolle y has been better fitness levels

Not sure how good he is at all but well thought of at Hull but not making progress to the first team due to bringing in, thats the nature now, all the youth dont get chances as they bring in ready made.

I like Adkins he’s very up front, engaging and knows his stuff looking at his record of success he’d be a good mentor for MJ, if they’ve got any more they’d like to loan us at the level of Connor Townsend we should bite their hands off.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the “Targers” are competitive next season despite all the off field stuff.

I don't have an issue with loan signings providing they are for the season and train with the club every day.  Some loan players can end up training with their parent club most of the week and this would impact the chances of having a close knit group.
