145 years without being promoted!

Sounds like a good job for Russell Slade. He would fit right in.

Surely not being re-elected counts as being relegated? I'm sure Town weren't thinking in 1910 (or was it 11?) 'that's OK, we've not really been relegated out of the League. Just not re-elected."

But still remarkable stability. The GTFC Yang to our GTFC Ying.

Too true, as we actually have, or might only be had now, the most promotions and relegations of any football league club with 30 apparantly

Blimey, I knew we had a lot but had no idea it was so many.

Edit: https://www.theguardian.com/fo.....elegations-knowledge

If this is right we're on 31 now, although Notts may equal that in the next month or so.

Marketing departments dream ...
"following relegation to the National League we are proud to announce a 15% increase in season ticket sales based upon our previous League form at that level where we consistently finished at Play Off level and that STH's will get first dibs on Trophy Final tickets...also by choosing to invest in a STH with us you are more likely to be involved in an exciting end of season promotion or relegation battle with us , than you are at any other football league club..FACT! So come on down to Blundell Park and join us on our exciting journey through Englands footballing backwaters"

It’s a sad state of affairs at Trinity. They were owned by Peter Swann the current Scunmy chairman. His Mrs is the heiress to the Wilkinson stores so he had a fair bit of clout. The Blues Club which is the social club joined to the ground refused to sell him the ground so he could redevelop it and despite rumblings of them building a new stadium he got fed up of the issues placed at his feet and sold up. They had pretty much a professional side a few years ago, Brian Little as manager and had players like Luke Beckett, Luke Waterfall, Andrew Boyce, Michael Leary, Paul Mayo, Lee Ridley, James Hunt, Jamie Clarke, Ryan Williams, Sam Aiston, Darryn Stamp, Terry Hawkridge, Adie Moses and Phil Barnes amongst many others.

Since Swann left and despite making the National League North play off final a few years ago they’ve gone backwards in every way, they can’t afford to compete with the bigger sides in that division. Stockport, York, Darlington and then money bags teams like Salford and Harrogate. Up until appointing Lee Sinnott they had a chap in charge who managed before at Lincoln Moorlands Railway who are on the 11th tier of the football pyramid. Even Nathan Jarman was Player/Manager this year for a spell. I honestly can’t see them coming back up anytime soon unfortunately.

The way Swann upped and left Gainsborough should be a stark warning to our friends up the M180.

Last I saw they had abandoned their new Lakeside stadium development and were planning to redevelop Glanford Park.  With them posting huge losses over the last few years, should they be worried that he may get bored again and walk away?

I believe he has a casino over in Blackpool, I think the Oystons are having trouble, what a shame if Swann moved over there and left scunny in the lurch.

Having left GY due to work commitments in 2002, I moved to Gainsborough. I have continued to follow Town and this forum, though this is the first time I have posted anything(so please be gentle with me !). I have to confess that I do go and watch Gainsborough Trinity, never thought when I was younger that you could support "two" Football teams, but sort of reconciled my treachery with the fact that the two teams would never competitively play each other(came perilously close a couple of years ago) and the fact that both are GTFC, sort of made it easier. I agree with all that Gainsborough Mariner posted( crikey there are two town exiles in Gainsborough!), Trinity have been heading to relegation for a while now. They are going through the usual chest beating, we will come straight back up next year bravo club statements, but without a new major benefactor becoming involved, I cant see it, I think they will even struggle in the league below. The Conf north has become full of " wanabe" football teams, plucked from obscurity by rich individuals on power trips, determined to get a Football league team on the cheap( Town have seen plenty of em e.g. Camberwick Green, Barnet etc etc). It's a sad reflection on traditional clubs like Trinity & Town, but as we  know, it's all about money. Hoping and preying that Town manage to stay up, Christ having to deal with a " double-header" of relegation, I would have to throw myself in the Trent !. I will finish this post with a big UTM, but just a tiny utb for my "other" little team.

Well if the whispers are correct a certain  J, Fenty might  be looking for another club to control next season.

Err no thanks Pete, would sooner Trinity end up playing The Valiant on a Sunday morning than that nightmare scenario.

Is that the side famous in the 60's? Had the Pugh brothers at centre back and Barney Mcgrew in goal. Front three of Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb?

LOL, Very good. Yes that's the one. I always prefer Camberwick Green as the name for FGR, think it better sums up the jokey size of the place, though Village Green Rovers is pretty funny too. Though you have to be a Mariner of a certain age to remember it sadly!!.

My understanding of the situation was that Swann went in with 2 million, and said once it was gone he would finish. I think he lasted 5 years.

They knew what money they had had probably blew a quarter of it on Little - he didn't exactly tear up trees there did he?

If there's a lesson to be learned, maybe it's "be careful what you wish for".

I think we can all learn from that.
