Hi,
My good Lady and I have booked 3 nights in Gloucester, travel down Friday, travel back Monday for the BH weekend.
Obviously we intend going to the FGR game subject to getting tickets.
What else is there to do?.  Places to go, places to drink, we both like a nice real ale especially the golden/paler ones.
Good pubs, restaurants (not too expensive), days out, sights to see.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Woz lives in Gloucester and is an expert on pubs! I'm a few miles south.

The Cotswolds isn't far and Cheltenham is good for food.

Woz - over to you!

Forest of Dean,Gloucester Docks if you are into antiques.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse for him to escape from the wife and kids for the weekend and drink lots of beer.

The Old Badger at Eastington is a great little pub. Nice beers and food. It's just off junction 13, M5

Walks and views
If you fancied staying a little nearer to Nailsworth, there is great walking and stunning valley views from both nearby Rodborough and Minchinhampton commons (see links below for more info and links to other nearby places). Not only is the scenery excellent, the wild garlic will be out and always worth picking some if you can find it (woods near Rodborough Manor half way up Bear Hill was always bountiful).

Pubs
The Bear of Rodborough is a lovely hotel/pub on top of the common
https://www.cotswold-inns-hotels.co.uk/the-bear-of-rodborough/
The Old Fleece on Rooksmoor Hill/Bath road is another good pub/restaurant
The Black Horse in Amberley/Minchinhampton is good for food too

and if you're after something more 'at heel' and quirky, The Prince Albert may be worth a look

Ice cream
If you do go that way, consider getting a Winstons ice cream from their parlour/factory on Rodborough Common - delicious!

If you're willing to venture east, Burford & Witney are great for little shops and Bampton is where the outside scenes in Downton were shot.

Stow-in-the-Wold and Cirencester are both worth visiting for a mooch around/ale. As is Burford which has the Cotswold Safari Park nearby. If walking's your thing, then there's Westonbirt Arboretum.
