See the GTFC Futsal side won their FA Cup 1st Round tie today against Durham 5-2.

Impressive crowd of 215 there at Grimsby College for the first ever game that GTFC Futsal have played at home.

Anyone on here go and watch? I didn't but interested to hear views of anyone that went.

Tommy as a coach do you think this is a good game to build technical ability? Interesting all the debate about our National Team and lack of technical skill looking in Wiki we;re not even ranked.

Big arguments for and against futsal in terms of how it affects player progression , the German team who destroyed Brazil in their own back yard came from a non futsal background whereas the most of the Brazilian team had played good level futsal when younger . Two different sports but having close control and good space awareness as got to be beneficial imo so I'm all for

Yes without a doubt Futsal can be used as a great tool for developing footballers. Futsal is a sport in it's own right but there's obviously lots of transferable skills to football.

Don't know much about the National Futsal teams but I know there are a few people at The FA that are driving Futsal massively and doing all they can to get people involved with coaching kids to get on board with it.

You do see some false imitations of Futsal dotted around but it is on the rise. Some players are actually better suited to playing Futsal than football and not always the ones you'd expect, because of the difference in the 2 sports.

Thanks for that really appreciate the insight 👍

As a former egg chaser and RFU coach it seems like the comparison between the 15 a side hand and 7’s great at building some really good technique but the skills and technical pieces are not always transferable

Good to see a team in black and white doing well in a round ball game though for sure!!

They were saying in the Man City game yesterday, the reason the Man City goalie is so comfortable with the ball at his feet is because of his involvement with Futsal growing up. I don't know much about the sport myself.

Not sure how accurate that'd be unless he played outfield in Futsal.

There are different rules in Futsal and you cannot pass back to the keeper once he's already touched it unless an opponent has touched the ball or it's gone over the half way line.

So he'd be unlikely to get much repetitive practice with the ball at his feet in Futsal matches. The only time there's no limits on GK's touches is when the GK is in the attacking half of the pitch playing as a fly-keeper.

Just repeating what the commentator said, so imagine he wasn't in goal when he was young.

Yeah i know you were mate.

He might have been in goal to be honest, I don't know. Just a lot of different rules for GK's. He'd still have had the technique work with the smaller, lower bouncing ball and the speed of the game (GK's only allowed to be in possession of the ball for 4 seconds, including goal kicks) whilst looking for passes rather than punting it forward like in an 11v11 game. Just wouldn't have the ball played back to him as much as he does playing in this City team.

Dapperz makes a good point on this thread too. Playing Futsal doesn't guarantee anyone success or that they'll turn into a great footballer. It's just a tool that can be used to develop certain aspects of their game.

Highlights for anyone interested. Camera angle doesn't make it easy viewing but obviously facilities restrict where you can put a camera.
