I don't think they've won since the orange one took over.

The only cheap way to do it is to get the National Express coach from Victoria but it takes over 2 hours each way.

I've had a look at this. If you go to splitticketing.co.uk, it looks as if there's a marginal saving (from £47.90 to £46.00) by buying separate London-Reading and Reading-Swindon tickets. Journey takes about an hour. If you don't mind taking rather longer travelling to save a bit of cash, you could go 12.22 Paddington -> Oxford 13.20 (£8.50 single) 13.37 Oxford -> Swindon 14.29 (change at Didcot) (£11.60 return) 17.11 Swindon -> Oxford 18.16 (change at Didcot) 18.31 Oxford -> Paddington 19.26 (£5.40 single) Total £25.50 So you can save about £22 if you don't mind taking twice as long getting to/from London (NB some of the tickets are "limited availability" so buy in advance if you plan to do this). Or you can go with National Express coaches for £13 but it takes 2h15 and you're at the mercy of traffic!

This site will always work out the cheapest route unlike virtually all the company web sites and rip off sites like TrainLine https://www.ticketclever.com/

Thanks for that...... We are on the 12.22 from Paddington to Oxford, but we are leaving the train at Reading for train to Swindon. On return we go Swindon to Reading on 17.31 train an then pick up the Oxford to Paddington train at Reading. This way we got back in Paddington at 18.59 which give us 49 minutes to get to Kings Cross. Worked out £24 each with TwoTogether Railcard. Say hello if you see us (Me, GollyGTFC, and grandson).
