Surprised that we are seeing the typical over reaction to a win - we were most definitely not fantastic defensively. Chesterfield didn't hurt us, tbf we kept them under control, but we repeatedly made awful individual intercourse ups and presented them with the ball. Mostly in the first half, but the worst occasion wa from clarke in the second half. Luckily we were playing against such an awful team.
We had good performances from midfield in the middle third but yet again no creativity. Up front we did hav a couple of chances such as when hooper was presnted with a 1 on 1, but spurned them yet again.
Glad that MJ seems to be getting us organised defensively at home but nothing can cover up the awful individual lack of ability running thru this team from front to back. Thank God there is only a few games left so this win may be enough.
No lack of effort from the team today, don't get me wrong, and had some individual decent performances, but u can still see why we are where we are.

Are you serious? How long is it since we won? Never mind the importance of this game which everyone admits we had to win. We have just given ourselves a chance of escaping the trapdoor to non league and you say this coz we are overjoyed that we now have hope.
If we survive we know there is a lot of work to do for next season but there is nothing we can do about that. Sometimes just being alive has to be enough.

Two really shite teams and I thought we’d blown our best chances of winning the game. Thought we’d already shot out bolt when the subs came on and we were looking less likely to score, then we got a hugely welcome slice of luck. Thought Vernon linked the play well and ran himself out. Dembele had his best game for a long time and created a golden chance which Summerfield fluffed.

MOM for me was Robert Madley.

Win next week and that should see us home I reckon.

Sometimes with a good attitude and hard work you can achieve things. That is what happened today. Jolley and his staff must take credit for getting the mindset right And his tactics and adjustments were also important. Well done. It was tense and nothing seemed to drop for us again, then the crucial pen. Rose was brave given the pressure and deserved to celebrate. Job not yet done but more of the same spirit and endeavour next week and things will look a whole lot better. My G & T sure tastes great just now!

They had a few chances in the first half, but when we changed tactics at half time Chesterfield were pretty much contained. Good to have a manager who recognises he needs to change things.

Thats the sort of manager i like. He is able to read whats going wrong and has made te right call to put it right. Obviously he hasnt got world beaters to play with but he is "pro active" which means nex season he will do better with what he has got

Though Collins was colossal today and considering the pressure the players were under we fought like demons even if the skill level was not the best, three points against Barnet and breath

Would have liked to see two up front all match in a game we had to win. Macca made a good save in the first half but defensively we were strong and restricted them to very little. We got the break with the decision for once. We weren't brilliant but we got the result we needed.

Seriously? We looked much better 2nd half as 4231/451 - Hooper & Vernon either went for the same ball or not at all first half and generally got in each other's way.

Forgot to add Summerfield was MOM

Again 👍👍👍

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I didn’t enjoy a minute of that game and still feel nauseous a couple of hours after it finished. Brilliant character and effort shown by all today - although I don’t think has actually been a problem this season which has been the quality. Despite our lack of quality we had far more than Chesterfield.

Bobby Madley was outstanding - best ref at BP in years. You can definitely spot the difference between him and the average FL ref.

Really good to see a big crowd in and a performance to match both on the pitch and in the stands. Hope we can get similar numbers in next week in what is probably a game with more at stake. It could be all but sealed this time next week and the NEL pubs will do a roaring trade. Here’s hoping.
