Tomorrow once more We’ll pour through those gates Where destiny; Redemption or failure awaits
To our Blundell Park The weary old girl Our spiritual home In this bonkers old world
Where I’ve had wonderful highs And gut-wrenching lows Where I’ve laughed at the shortness Of Jude Stirling’s ‘long throws’
The ghosts of the past They hang in the air Of legends moved on The basis for cheer
Buckley, Mendonca McMenemy, Groves Of beautiful football That brought in the droves
To Birtles and Bestall Hall, Betmead and Buck It wasn’t just talent They gave a fuck
A Pouton stepover A back heel from Rees One-eighty from Glover Those headers from Tees
It’s now twenty matches Over one hundred days Tomorrow we win, though And emerge from the haze
Take heed, boys Take wisdom Take great inspiration From those halcyon days
For Futch and for Kev Moore For Marc North and Big Keith For all gone to soon, and with bit between teeth Give it your all, boys – we’ll not slip beneath
And so, all for one And one for all We owe those Spireites For that fucking four-all
Come on you Mariners!

I have decided to go tomorrow . Not for the players , not for the manager , not for the board , not for myself but for the love of a football club that I just can't shake off .....

Nice poem Poojah but football is still a business and its the fans who get ultimately taken for a ride.If the fans didnt fund the flame the sport would die and all those premiership players earning millions would look for other jobs.
Its why Ive gone off football somewhat when I now see it for what it is and having spoken to ex players in the game and read about things. All concur money rules at the end of the day and its not loyalty to the fans
Its why I prefer athletics and others sports eg boxing now.Truer sports that have been around since we evolved as humans.
Having said said that still prefer lower league football eg our level where its more real and below in comparison to the premiership as its fans that largely dictate the success of their club based on their loyalty.

I imagine the first thing that the early Homo sapiens did after climbing down from the trees was set out a 400m track and put a boxing ring together.

No but they were running away from predators and probably fighting each other for resources. Its called survival.Something that happens to this day. If you have read national geographic recently people still die in the desert today in Africa traversing the desert to look for pastures new where they can survive and earn more money and ultimately food ? This is reality mariner.Your lucky me and you dont have to face these harsh conditions that many still experience today.Eg no social warfare, nothing. You dont make the effort your dead. Put yourself in their shoes and you would have a different mindset. In this country we have to it easy.

Sport: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." Then if it's for survival, it isn't a sport. So why are they "truer sports"? Also, if you don't think money runs boxing just as much as it does football then you're naive in the extreme.

Boxing has existed far longer than football.I think you need to see the wider picture

Oh right so it's longevity that makes a sport "truer" or not. Or it's because some people in poor countries struggle for survival. When you put it like that, it's so obvious.

Well thank you as I for one had no idea that there were parts of the world where life isn't as easy as it is in Western Europe. Thank you for opening my eyes and perhaps one day I will leave these shores and see it for myself although I've heard that there are parts of the world where they don't use the same words that we do here?!

The world can be a cruel place largely shaped by mans actions towards each other .I just hope and pray things get better but its the right actions that changes things for the better which isnt always easy. Iam firm in my belief though that good in the long run will always outweigh the bad eg light over dark always Now back to the football

Love the poem - we should never forget our proud history. Don't really give a toss what sport has been around the longest as long as we win on Sat. I've never seen a boxing match bring as much joy to as many people as some of the town games I've been to over the years.

Each to their own You made a a fair point though as I remember reading about when Spain won the world cup back in 2010.Grown men crying thinking after years of their country being bottle jobs when it came to putting on the national football shirt they had finally secured the holy grail something they never thought they would see.

I hate the over commercialised sanitised Premier League. Give me the raw third world struggle of Mayweather v McGregor any day of the week! More to the point, great poem

Well I like watching most sports but I do not love them,
I do not even love football .
My only love in the sporting world is Grimsby Town FC.
and
It breaks my heart to see it in turnmoil because of one man who thinks he is doing a good job but in reality he is just driving away decent fans who also love the club like myself.

Surely that contradicts your point about certain sports being all about money? He is paid an obscene amount of money and you have to pay £20 to even watch it on TV ffs!

I know but its admiration for Mayweathers craft and dedication to the cause.Hence effort in a lot of cases equals money.Goes for most sports as in life.Hence why I think its a shame the likes of George Best as a prime example could have done so much more had it not been for a lapse mindset .Likewise Ricky Hatton. Washed up at 35 due to his drinking habits in between fights whereas the likes of Mayweather continued till they were 40 eg never drunk or smoke.
