This weekend has left me with the same sick feeling that I had after Burton. I can't even get angry with the players.its not their fault that they are just not good enough.
What makes it even worse is that jolley is going to be left with a pile of Shiite to clear up before he can even start tobui!d any sort of team.and how does he do that if there's  no season ticket money and a club at war with itself?
I feel really sorry for him and its going to take some incredible management skills in order for him to turn this around.
I just want to go away and try and forget about football for the next 6 weeks.why do I have to support such a Shiite club?

At least next season MJ will have a blank canvass squad wise so he won't need to balance the books. Relegated or not, I can't wait to get this season out the way.

I agree, but you could argue that that's one of the things contributing to where we are.

With most of the players out of contract at the end of the season, do they have the same motivation/fight than if they were here next season and maybe lived around here?

No, and our recruitment policy is totally flawed. I and others have been saying this for ages, but it seems the club know best. Ask yourself how many of our players have recent relegations on their CV, and then think how many of our recently released players have the chance of a promotion?

The board will just blame the managers, or maybe they will stick to the mantra "it's the fan's fault".

Most clubs in the conference, league 2 and some in league 1 can only afford to renew contracts or release players in the summer. At this level players are extremely fortunate if they have a 2 year contract, they can either play their hearts out and battle to earn a new contract or give up and be released which most of our players seem to be doing. Ultimately down to the individuals.

Chesterfield muster a performance and manage to beat Notts County, whereas we’d struggle to beat 11 blokes who’d been sat in the Notts all afternoon. I’ve got no faith in the squad to be able to get a win and I’m pretty certain we’ll break the club winless record in this run.

‘Fun’ trivia: Three of the five longest GTFC winless runs have come during JF’s reign of failure.

God only knows what will happen at FGR on the last day of the season, whether we are already down or not,  I pray that the little town of Nailsworth isn't going to see Burton mark 2, emotions are going to be extremely high.

Considering the crap we have had to watch and the dreadful state of the club under Fenty's leadership, it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't hundreds begging for 3 year banning orders.

Hopefully if we are going down it will all be decided before we go to Forest Green. Having a last day decider would be a disaster and anyway if anything is going to kick off better it happens at BP, if the place gets totally demolished the damage would be less than £300.
Seriously, if you must do it at home not at some other poor buggers stadium - its not their fault.

I've been feeling sick in the belly for a while probably since Yeovil away.that's when I realised we were in the deep poo then Slade was walking  around like whats all the fuss it's all under control and Fenty still giving it the confidence in the manager waffle.

I will be there Friday supporting from a far supporting Town Like I have done for 38 years All I ask Mr Jolley is for y to ask your players to stand up and be counted No half measures GET ON WITH IT LIKE Chesterfield have. Are we a dead team walking?

A lot has been said about our demise   6 years to get out of the non league less than 10 months to go back Mr Fenty /Slade what a mess

But that's half the problem ,theyre trying and doing their best, but their best isn't good enough.in fact I wonder if this lots best is even good enough for the conference.prime example ,even Pearson could pass the ball better than mills. And yes they are dead men walking coz mentally they are completerly nutterly shot

.why do I have to support such a Shiite club?

You don't support a shiite club Forza.  You support a fantastic club with a SHIITE owner/non-chairman, who surrounded himself with a SHIITE bunch of yes men.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I'm just numb..

Tired of this club being run by a fish processing business owner thinking he's the messiah and believes he can run a football club. The evidence is there for all to see that he's failing miserably. Having an accountant on the board who balances the books is a tiny proportion of what is needed to run a successful football club. In other areas it's been amateur hour for fifteen years. The (incomplete but extremely long) charge sheet on another thread is damning. And that list only represents a percentage of what's out there in the public domain. God knows what goes on behind closed doors. I dread to think what else there is that we don't know about..

I joined this forum to push for change at the very top of the club because it's been needed for years. If we stay up or more likely go down and nothing radical happens, I feel like I'm done with complaining. Although I love GTFC, I don't recognise the club I fell in love with as it stands today.

I know I'll probably never give up fighting, but apathy seems like a much less stressful route next season.. sadly..

Yes despite my constant carping about Fenty ( I think I had my first rant on here after a 2-2 draw with Accrington when Conlon scored a late equaliser if my memory is right) I more or less feel numb now. All that complaining obviously hasn't achieved anything as it was just a way of getting it off my chest, but for him to allow it to happen all over again is unforgivable.Mind numbing as you say.

The only hope we have now is that there is a consortium out there monitoring the situation and are ready to take the reins if he feels it is time to go. If we go down and nothing happens re a takeover then God knows where we will end up.

A word about Michael Jolley - he was brave or stupid to apply. I hope he conjures up a miracle 'cos if we go down it will be a nightmare for him. In hindsight the board should have given the job on a temporary basis to a grizzled seasoned manager (Brown?) with the sole remit to keep us up with a big fat fee at the end of it. Apologies to other posters who suggested this type of approach as I wanted a permanent manager at the time of Jolleys appointment but in any event there is no way Fenty would have sanctioned a pay off to someone to keep us up.

Is it correct that in the talks with Brown he was only going to be offered a deal to the end of the season? I have read somewhere that this is also the case with MJ. I sincerely hope not, he is young, hungry, enthusiastic, well qualified and regardless of what league we are in I want to see what he can do when he has his own players around him.

Look on the bright side,

Next season we will have a bright new manager who has already moved to the area,

He will know loads of good quality young players who were at at premiership clubs who have been released,

Not good enough for the Prem but more than good enough for L2,

They will also move and live in the area instead of being spread all over the place,

By doing that they will feel the love the fans have for the club and will buy into it,

Whether Michael can get these players if we are non league leaves a big question mark,

So we have got to stay up.

I'm fuming, anxious and hurting. Not good for my family despite my efforts to put it out of my mind. It's only division 4 for felicitations sake and we haven't won for 18 games, we haven't won one single cup game since we came back into the league and I think we're going down again. An absolute disgrace, it's beyond belief the same mistakes have been made by John Fenty, I cannot fathom how he sleeps at night.

Same as everybody I am absolutely gutted after 40 years of loving the team. I go to the home games as a season ticket holder but very few away. I have had a massive change in approach. Firstly, I do not even switch on the radio when we play away. Always, the same a decent 20 mins go behind miss a couple of chances and finish hammered.I watch Jeff Stelling and have a little gamble. My Mrs is amazed and I think thought I was ill when this started.
I am so disillusioned I watch very little football ( from being a fanatic). Basically, to take away how sick this has made me feel I ignore the lot and it works for me. I so hated Slade I even missed home games with a ticket bought.  This is just my way of seeing my main hobby vanish. I know that I will only follow them in non league if at the top of the league and after countless years as a season ticket holder there is no way I will buy one next season as I know I will not go to watch Solihull on a cold Saturday. All the pre season banter in the world will not get me there. Jolly would have little experience at this level and we know how well that works.
Any L2 game I would love to watch as long as we are just very average. I have really low expectations. Finally, if we do fall out of the league I have started planning to do other things on a Saturday afternoon. All part of dealing with this crap.
If by some miracle we stay up ,Jolly will have made a magic and I will unconditionally buy a season ticket , merchandise etc.next season and get my son to come again.
At this point I am ashamed of this proud club , at work we used to talk football. The only guy I speak to now is Charlton fan as we have a shared hatred of Sladeball.
Rant over - like the rest of you I want to stay loyal but we have been pushed too far. I have not enjoyed any of this season and would rank it equal with our last relegation as the worst season I have ever seen. If relegated it will be the worst ever. What use is a hobby that you no longer enjoy. Supporting Town at the moment has no upside and is loyalty that is totally undeserved. When I see the numbers of away supporters this makes me even more sick. 800 to Cov to watch an inevitable hammering - AMAZING SUPPORT , ABSOLUTELY STAGGERINGLY BRILLIANT SUPPORT and nothing in return. Personally , I made money on betting on the defeat as it was so certain.
I am desparate to be proud of the mariners again but for me it's  stay up or It's time to part with this miserable hobby UTM

And that's what we're reduced to. That's the extent of our 'dreams'. We dream of somehow scraping survival in the 4th division. The year or two before I first went to watch Town in 1971, we had to undergo the indignity of re-election. For decades we have talked about re-creating that McMenemy induced feeling from the early 70s.

Well John Fenty has managed to go one better. he has re-created that feeling from BEFORE McMenemy was appointed.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

It's so sad seeing everyone downhearted and upset about OUR Grimsby Town football club. Its so hard to stay positive, but we must make our presense felt and loud.Weve done it before and we will do it again.I know they don't deserve it but we must not go down. The fans made promotion season and can do it again.

Great post that and sums up a lot of what supporters are feeling. I think the club has lost the fans by and large this time around and there simply isn't the hunger to get behind the team. The team itself must deliver from now til the end of the season and give the fans something to get behind.

As for the future - massive, far reaching changes needed on and off the pitch are needed in the close season or the club will be in the wilderness for many more years yet.

I know that I will only follow them in non league if at the top of the league

Not totally against the National League then?

ZMariner I feel the same way but try and deal with the c rap slightly differently. I just try and distance myself with thinking about it and read fewer posts on here. It hurts too much.  I am so angry at the grossly incompentent Board (and Slade) for getting us into this mess.   I have boycotted some games but will be there on Friday.

Supporting the Club for 55 years, mostly as an exile involves a lot of time, money and heartache (a few good seasons). The way the club is run does wear you down.  The appalling Board and management decisions made this season could easily have been avoided.  The supporters could see the consequences.

I cannot deal with going back into NL if this is the outcome.  Which we deserve really.  What kills you is that this dire position is and was totally avoidable.  I think that the Board did switch off for this season and were looking to next season in in Div 2.

We are not in the last chance saloon at Burton.  We have home games to rivals to get wins and survive.  At this stage of the season you get freak results.  Struggling teams get themwelves safe against all the odds.  Remember Fulham years ago who suddenly had not won away saved themselves with away wins?

I still remain
