It is the fans I feel sorry for. He's getting paid to see it.

Sorry but I totally disagree with that Slade always came out with some delusional nonsense and never accepted that he or his team were doing anything wrong I’ve heard more honesty from Jolley in the past fortnight than Slade ever offered

Feel for MJ, don’t think he realised just how shite we are. We’ve certainly not benefited from any sort of honeymoon period after appointing a new manager so we’ve just got to pray for wins in the home games and hope it’s enough.

He watched us before he got the job. It doesn't take a genius to see how bad we are. Most fans could work it out after a couple of games.

More than anything I thought Jolley dealt well with what was a pretty obnoxious interview from burns- trying to put words in his mouth and being quite rude with his style. Thank fully MJ is much more intelligent.
He does sound furious tho- interested to see the goals. Collins sounded depressed

I'd have loved Burnsy to have commentated on us earlier in the season and interviewed Slade. Slade got spiky with JT, imagine what he'd have responded like with Burns.

Collins came right upto the goal line to acknowledge the fans post match, and looked gutted. Good to see virtually all the players come over despite the 4-0. Woolford came closer to us than most - no one can say he doesn't care.

matt has much more style and is less aggressive. In advocacy training it's called boiling the frog - if you go in with an aggressive or rude style you will never get good answers, which of course is what you want when interviewing

Correct, he got sidetracked. Being a youth coach throughout the Fenty era, he knows how petty and cheap the club is from the top and right through to some of the staff that have been there far too long and are too set in their ways to make a positive difference.. Big shake up needed for us to ever have any semblance of hope I'm afraid..

Jolley walked down the tunnel straight away at full time, he's not happy with the shite he's got basically.
Collins stood on his own clapping the town fans at the end and looked gutted, he didn't have a bad game despite the score...

I’m a little worried that he’s got us doing half zonal and half man marking. Whatever the intercourse it is, the players can’t grasp it. For 2 of the goals today the biggest player on the pitch was completey unmarked.
Different formation and different team in all 3 of his games. This is not championship manager, I think he needs to pick his best team and make minimal changes. I also think he’d have been better off not panning the players for the 2nd half.

He's nobody's fool and I just wonder if he's looked at the fixtures and decided what's potentially winnable and what's not and decided to spend a bit of time finding out his best team in a match environment. But that's just my opinion.

Everyone has said that jolley changes his players tactics and formations depending upon the opposition.he also said that all the players would be given a chance.we were always v unlikely to get anything at Lincoln. N cov and so it has proved.k He's now played almost everyone so hopefully has a god idea as to who and how to play in the Stevenage cup final

I completely agree with the sentiment Headingley but it's hard to stick with something that's got battered. I thought there was some decent stuff at times today but we look so vulnerable to set pieces and we're so lacking in resilience and mental strength. Those saying it's over and we're down are getting carried away as we're still 6 points from the bottom 2 but intercourse me we need to find some luck and some bravery over the next 6 days.

It s a good interview in my opinion. I like Burnsy asking the questions - probing, straight, brutally honest maybe - much better than the anodyne alternative we usually hear, but I though Jolley was excellent in his responses. I feel for him. He's got nothing to work with at all. I'm sure he'll turn out to be a good manager when he can build his own team. Really sad that it seems that it'll be in the conference.....

I hope you’re right and we see a more settled team for the last 7 games. I still think it’s a bit naive if that is the case as all games in this league are winnable.

Completely agree with you. We’ve had a tough couple of fixtures and now we are going to be in games against the other poor teams around us. I just feel if he continues to chop and change it’ll be counterproductive.

I agree. Part of me thinks we should be going for simplicity - 442, man-to man etc but I guess he's trying to find a formation to disguise the huge weaknesses in the squad. One thing I did think today was how little we looked compared to them.

I hope you’re right and we see a more settled team for the last 7 games. I still think it’s a bit naive if that is the case as all games in this league are winnable.
So what he was supposed to do headingly? Keep playing rose n berrett in midfield, keep ignoring the fringe players, keep playing Clarke when the status quo patently hasn't worked? Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.......

What do people want from interviews? Do you want someone to ask straight questions to get answers or do you want statement type ‘questions’? Do you want the interviewer to lead the interviewee into positive answers or do you want them to put them under pressure to get honest answers? Burns is brilliant at what he does and should definitely mediate the next FF or preside over Fenty’s trial for crimes against football and treason against the town.

If you look at the majority of games we’ve won this season, they have probably been the pairing in the middle (not that I’m advocating playing them both). I accept he has to make changes, but wholesale changes every game and a different formation every game doesn’t strike me as the best way to get out of this pickle.

He's nobody's fool and I just wonder if he's looked at the fixtures and decided what's potentially winnable and what's not and decided to spend a bit of time finding out his best team in a match environment. But that's just my opinion.
That’s a good call actually A bit risky in some ways but he seems the type to calculate the risk and then try it out - maybe got that from his trading days Just hoping he can utilise his assets to get maximum returns in the time we have left to us

I agree. Part of me thinks we should be going for simplicity - 442, man-to man etc but I guess he's trying to find a formation to disguise the huge weaknesses in the squad. One thing I did think today was how little we looked compared to them.
I think we've got to dispense with the theory that players don't understand anything other than 4-4-2. They're used to playing all kinds of formations.. It's written about more on here because of the Buckley legacy and GTFC fans understanding it more than other systems. For some Town fans, getting their heads around anything other than 4-4-2 is akin to my dear old nana trying to get her head around decimalisation in the early seventies. I seriously can't remember as a manager or player at semi-pro level that I've been involved in a team that regularly played 4-4-2 for about 13 years.. The long and the short of it is that the squad lacks talent, it lacks pace and it lacks physical presence. add to it a massive lack of confidence and we are where we are. At the minute it doesn't really matter what formation we put out and the situation certainly doesn't make me reach out for 4-4-2 as if it's a comfort blanket and a proven remedy to losing games.. One question. If as you suggest you go 4-4-2, how do you go man to man against a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-1-2, 4-3-1-2 or even a 3-4-3?

I was talking about man-marking at set-pieces as we were so shambolic today at them.
4-4-2 clearly has its limitations but I don't think playing a different formation every week necessarily helps a squad of kids, loanees, newcomers etc. As I said in my post though, I understand MJ is desperately searching for something that hides some of our weaknesses. My post wasn't intended as some big promotion of 4-4-2.

Sorry mate. I'm a bit narky tonight.. I actually think that the whole set piece defending problem is more about our confidence levels, lack of concentration, lack of physicality and lack of how much we really want to win the ball and put our bodies on the line.. Zonal or man mark the result's the same..

matt has much more style and is less aggressive. In advocacy training it's called boiling the frog - if you go in with an aggressive or rude style you will never get good answers, which of course is what you want when interviewing
Matt Dean was quite aggressive with MJ after the Lincoln game and MJ got quite frosty with him.

Their two headed goals were FREE headers inside the box considering we have everybody back for corners that is unforgivable.
They had two young wing backs that worked their socks off the ginge one especially was brilliant, On a wide pitch like that our defenders were left wanting sorry but Davis looked his age yesterday.
M.J. said it how it was honest and clear no animosity, patronization or arrogance he just as to get these players to believe in themselves first half we looked like we were capable of getting a point.
Second half I said if they score again we will crumble they did.
Coventry relaxed knocked the balls wide into space and we got run ragged.

So who else did he have with any creative ability? It was worth a try,2 experienced heads in the centre of midfield along with 2 youngsters.incidentally, and I'll get red crossed for this, was Clifton any better than woolford? Didn't see him do v much at all and IMHO all 3 youngsters were v disappointing

I thought Woolford did quite well til he got caught in possession and they scored their second.

But he can only find his " best " team under match conditions. Training all week and practice matches within our own squad is one thing when there is nothing at stake but a players true worth can only be judged under the pressure of a competitive game.

He can watch the videos of the 35 games we played without him this season. There’s easily enough info for him to be able to pick a side. It’s not pre season. We’ve got 7 games to secure safety.

I think it is pretty obvious that on thing Jolley ISN'T is a stick to one formation, stick to a 'best 11' manager! To me one of the things that seems to be stressed about him is he picks both players on formations to suit each individual match, as he sees it, depending on oppo strengths and weaknesses. I fully expect him to acquire the nickname tinkerman before too long as it will be astick used to beat him by those that don't like it.

Watch the highlights, one of their attacks he points I think to Clifton to mark the man inside and he goes out to the wide player but makes no intention to get close, also his defending for their 1st goal never mind their 2nd.

No doubt MJ will have been told at interview that Matt Dean is the anti christ and cannot be trusted
