Crewe (37) vs FGR (37)
Port Vale (38 ) vs Exeter
Morecambe (39) vs Colchester

Favours from Exeter and Colchester would be nice. Any result in the Crewe - FGR game keeps one or both in trouble so no preference. It's just sad that we can't pick up the results we need ourselves

prefer VGR to win - We've got them to play last game of the season - if they are fine last game of the season it may help us. Plus Crewe are on a terrible run.

Crewe are 7th in the form table based on last 5 games...

I'd prefer a Crew v FGR draw. It will keep them both in range. At the end of the day, we want as many teams as possible to be in the relegation battle with us. Come to the end of the season, it could mean 1 point takes us 4 places above the relegation zone... Something i'd rather have than being 4 points away.

I agree. Crewe have lost the most games in the league and i want them to keep on losing and add pressure on them. I think VGR will be safe anyway and i'd much rather play them as a safe club if we need something from them.

The way things are going I reckon it's only Barnet and Chesterfield's results we need to be worried about. If a team's already above us I reckon they're there to stay!

Probably right Les, but if we could just manage one win, it could throw us up the table a few places if the others don't win. We had that Saturday where we lost (as usual) and most of the others won. It's not inconceivable that we could have a Saturday when the opposite happens. I won't hold my breath, but it could.

I'm with Les on this unfortunately. It's 2 from the current bottom 3 going down. The likes of Crewe, Morecambe and PV are easily going to scrape enough points together to be safe.

Thing is, they all pretty much play each other in the run in. If a couple of those go on a decent run and become safe they beat others around us during that run.

That helps us, but only if we start to get the points ourselves of course.

It wouldn't be great but I wouldn't say it would be a disaster. If Barnet or Chesterfield were at home then it would though.

It's impossible to guess what results will favour us the most. It may seem at the time that a particular result is good/bad for us, but turn out not to be the case. If we can win 2 or 3 it won't matter, especially if those wins are against our relegation rivals. Who we beat (if we beat anyone) will be almost as important as a win itself.

Not fully buying into this about only wanting Barnet & Chesterfield to lose tbh

If Crewe or FGR lose, and Port Vale lose, then Crewe or FGR will be on the same points, and same amount of games played.

Vale will be 1 point ahead, having played the same.

The weekend comes round, we miraculously get a 1-0 win at Coventry
Crewe lose away at Newport
FGR lose at home to Mansfield
Vale lose away to Wycombe

Then we could be 3 points above Crewe or FGR all of a sudden and the table looks a lot better.

Very very optimistic i know, but not impossible

What may be an important factor for us is the teams having to play 2 games a week in succession, especially at this time of the year. The they often say for team fighting at the other end is better to have the points on the board rather than games to play. Ok do we don't have the points on the board but at least the team can rest midweek and give MJ more time to work with them on the training ground.

For some reason teams at our level vary rarely get hammered these days, even us.

6-0 up at half time against Darlington at BP........those were the days.

Yes - we signed John Stone shortly afterwards.  Even as a young lad at the time, it seemed a strange move, but he turned out to be a good signing.

Weird side Crewe. They lose loads of games but win enough to stay ahead of the relegation dogfight. Hardly draw any games at all.

I'm getting the feeling more and more that our last game will be winner take all against FGR. This sort of sh1t happens all the time in football.

Shrews 1-1 now against 10 men. Come on Shrews! (I have quite a bit of money on them to get promoted).

To think he divided opinion here is unthinkable now, but he undeniably did.

Great footballer.

I don't want to go to FGR on the last day of the season needing something to stay up, especially if it's them who could stay up at our expense by beating us.

Seems we are the only team in the country that can't beat Port Vale.

That's Vale right back in it, poor defeat at home. Looks like they decided to give it a go at BP and have now returned to form. Typical. They're in some bother though, we really need to take advantage here.

We've had a few favours.  I just fell if we can nick a win we'll get some unstoppable confidence.  At 5pm on the day of our last win, we were level on points with the playoffs.  The players are more than capable of beating four or five of the teams we have left to play.

We just need one win. ONE WIN and we’d pull away and there’d be genuine daylight between us and the bottom 2. Problem is I cannot see where that illusive win is coming from!

Just watched the Crewe v VGR Match on iFollow and if it does come down to the last game of the season I now feel far more confident we will hammer them, Veggie Rovers are absolutely sh!te,far worse than I've seen us play and that's most games this season, if we don't beat them we will deserve to go down but lets hope we are safe before then.

From the BBC match report, Vale were much the better side, but couldn't get the ball in the net. Exeter sound like they rode their luck, the type you seem to get when you are at the top end.

They sound about the same as us. Losing 1-0 at home and also incapable of beating Town. They've managed a few draws, that will soon stop if the goals dry up. They have Chesterfield soon, that will be the test, as it will for us.

Solihull winning which just increases the pressure on the monkey hangers

Big game for Hartlepool tomorrow night as they are away to Barrow and both on the same points as Solihull and Hartlepool out of the bottom 4 due to scoring 2 more goals than Solihull..

It's live on BT Sports if anyone wants to remind themselves of where we were (or where we might be heading for).

The thing that concerns me the most, is goalscorers.

Our rivals have one, we dont.

FGR - Doidge, Scored 16 league goals
Chesterfield - Dennis, Scored 15 league goals
Vale - Pope, Scored 14 league goals
Barnet - Coulthirst, Scored 10 league goals & Akinde, We all know he scores goals
Grimsby - Rose with 5, Demebele 4, Collins 3....

The way things are going I reckon it's only Barnet and Chesterfield's results we need to be worried about. If a team's already above us I reckon they're there to stay!

Apart from Chesterfield, all those around us have used up their games in hand with only Crewe really gaining ground.

If we can get a result against Coventry, perhaps the confidence will start to return for the run in.

The thing that concerns me the most, is goalscorers.

Our rivals have one, we dont.

FGR - Doidge, Scored 16 league goals
Chesterfield - Dennis, Scored 15 league goals
Vale - Pope, Scored 14 league goals
Barnet - Coulthirst, Scored 10 league goals & Akinde, We all know he scores goals
Grimsby - Rose with 5, Demebele 4, Collins 3....

Yeah but at least we're solid at the ba...oh bollocks.

So we have a POTENTIAL goal scorer then? We already have plenty of those.

I really want Chesterfield to stay up (but not at our expense obviously) as in my mind they are a 'real football club' so I hope both they and we can get enough points on the board to survive.

Ideally it would be nice if we could send pub team FGR down on the last day and Chesterfield beat (already relegated) pub team Barnet to survive

Got to be WIlks and McSheffrey to start on Saturday, even though neither have had much game time recently. Can't be much worse than what we've been trying up front recently, can it.

McSheffrey's a bit of a Coventry legend, so he's bound to score against them, (Isn't he?)

I think it would be funny if Chesterfield went down. You know that team whose fans called us tinpot when we got back into the league. I said then, be careful because what goes around comes around. Fook 'em.

The big problem is that we've more than matched quite a few reasonable teams in general play this season (recently, I'm thinking Exeter, for example), but we tend to concede a goal with their first proper attack and then miss the handful of chances we do manage to create at the other end.

With a bit of luck (i.e. opposition missing chances, the ball bouncing in off the backside of one of our players) we can get the results we need. Don't have any confidence that we will do so, however.

Personally don't think its funny for any team to be relegated from the football league.

It is the worst division to get relegated from, as many teams don't return, so small rivalry or not, it wouldn't be funny for the fans

It'd be funny to me if they went down and we didn't. Do you think they would have any sympathy for us? Football is a dog eat dog business and we have been toothless for far too long. They would be dancing in the streets if they sent us down and stayed up themselves.

FFS what have I started here, direct access to the 'we hate Chesterfield club' or what?

Relegation would be awful for any club but of the five or six possibles Chesterfield and Port Vale are, like us, 'proper' clubs. Morcambe are relative newbies and FGR and Barnet definite 'pub' teams with no football pedigree at all

Don't give a shite whether they are 'proper' clubs or not. As long as it isn't us, i don't care. I used to think that way, but that was before we ended up in that hell hole.

Some people have short memories, Chesterfield fans on various forums where glad we got relegated and called us a horrible club with horrible fans so fcuk Chesterfield, at least they'll have one of the best grounds in non league.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.
