Last weekend he got MOTM yet again. In midweek, scored yet another goal and won a penalty in an away win at Colwyn. Scarboro currently sit in the 3rd auto promotion place but vying for runners up spot with a few games to go. Also into a cup final being played at the Riverside which i am attending so will hopefully be able to give ya the rundown soon. The kid is retiring fullbacks left, right and centre and i cannot wait to see Mr Jolley utilise him in the very near future. And yes i am on commission!

It is obvs a few levels below league 2 but then some of our league 2 players seem to be playing at Scarboros level at the moment so no harm in giving him a try to see if his positive loan experience has improved the lad.

No doubt very talented but and it’s a big but would he handle the physicality of the league ? That male masturbator sweeney smashed Clifton into the hoardings deliberately and looked to have hurt him , that challenge would have split max into 2. I think we’re hes playing his pace gets him away from those situations at Scarboro. Good luck to him whatever happens

He still trains with GTFC on a regular basis so MJ knows all about what he could bring.
I'd expect him to sign another deal unless Max wants to make sure he play first team football and signs for Scarborough

Seem to remember MJ saying a few weeks ago he was well aware of his progress and he'd been impressed with the lad. The way he's playing , age on his side, having some pace and being quite direct with the ball, pretty sure it will be a no brainer for MJ to offer him a deal. Personally thought he looked quite good in pre-season when I saw him play. Made the odd mistake but didn't shy away from playing at full back or as a more attacking winger.

Pace is the big thing which could help him make the step up to our level next season (wherever that is). If you're quick, you can often get away with being small and slight, especially if you assume he will get stronger as he gets a bit older.

Would be nice to see him here next season and introduced gradually in the way young players used to be.

He is a young lad that has been toughened up by playing against men this season,

They might be a few levels below us but there would be some hard men down there trying to kick him off the pitch,

So lets hope he makes the step up and plays for us in L2 next season.

I watched a bit of Barcelona Man City yesterday under 20or under 18 maybe anyway their youth development teams playing a semi final in some cup. In stature the differences was amazing virtually all the Barca lads were not that big in fact some fairly small but all great on the ball.  The Man City lads were mainly big and my lad tells me Chelsea awaiting the winners are all massive black lads. Just shows you the different philosophies of Spanish and English football

I think it was Nicky Butt who made a valid point the other week about young players. He said that if players aged 18-20 weren't good enough to be playing for their club's first team, then 99 times out of 100 they were never going to be good enough at that club's level. This is backed up by what age Kevin Drinkell, Tony Ford, Paul Wilkinson, John Oster, Gary Lund, Ryan Bennett etc all made their breakthrough. Max is 20 and playing four leagues below, which is a worry Another example was Tommy Watson who was sent out to Frickley, I think it was in the Conference, to toughen up at the age of 17 and a year later was playing alongside the likes of Shaun Cunnington and John Cockerill. I'd like local players like Max to break through but the level he has been playing at this season doesn't bode too well. Next season will be pivotal for him I guess. He'll have to take his chances and be in and around the starting eleven or that may be it for him as a pro footballer. What skews his chances even further is the constant drip down of hoarded Premier League cast offs throughout the EFL. Massive season for Max next season, it will be great if he rises to the challenge..

I totally understand what you are Bigdog but i would conter that with the fact that he has been good enough for the last few seasons now BUT has broken his ankle twice and missed the remainder of 2 seasons each time so has done well to recover and get to where he is now. I'm not saying he wouldve, but maybe not having to deal with that, he maybe would be ahead of where he is currently.
Scarboro' got auto promotion yesterday and it was nice to see Dizza, Kayden Jackson and other town lads post on his page to congratulate him. I think an bang average youth player would be all but forgotten about.......

There is a good argument that if they are good enough they are big enough but I don’t think you can make a rule of it like Butt. There are many reasons why kids do not make it to first team level and these days the reasons are not always football ones. Likewise there are lots of players who arrive without coming through a youth set up. Town for example would not have had John Cockerill or Andy Tillson. Gary Birtles would not have made it to Forest, Man U or us .... Ian Wright is another  good example nationally. There are no hard and fast rules.

Good to see that Town players (and ex players) were following Max's achievements.  Maybe they took a closer interest because they rated him as a player with a great attitude and a being a good lad?

Went to see Scarborough yesterday. Nearly 700 fans saw them win 3-1.

They want to keep Max.

He is quite slight, but quick and gets back to defend well.
He was pushed over to get a penalty and got a tapin for the second.
He got some rough treatment from bigger older opponents before being taken off injured

Think he is a long way off league 2 but if we were to get relegated could be worth a punt.

I do not mean to offend, but am sure MJ will make the correct choice.

I hope to see young players given more chance to show what they can do by Jolley. Certainly Hurst was very reluctant to do it. I always felt his policy of shipping them out owed more to not trusting them, but not wanting to be seen as anti-youth, more than to developing them as players. A short loan is OK but some lads seemed to only be here in pre-season. Slade was not much better but he was not here long enough to judge what he would have done long term.

It isn’t easy for managers to put faith in youngsters, it is their job on the line if it doesn’t work so you can understand the attitude of someone like Hurst. But if you are trying to build a side it is better to start with a nucleus that has come through the ranks like the Moores with Ford, Drinkell & co. who have a loyalty to each other as well as the club. Even there it was largely Tom Casey who gave youth a chance but he got the sack and it was John Newman and George Kerr who got the benefit.

I watch Scarborough every week as well as being a Town fan, (grew up their)

I cant loose either way whether he stays at Boro or goes back to Town, he has been a stand out performer most weeks and is definitely worth a shot with Town next season. He's very quick  and also works hard and dot afraid to get stuck in, probably not a natural finisher but still gets a fair share of goals, I think he has worked on his left foot and delivery as the season has gone on which he needed to.
He deserves his chance to be a professional player before he would drop back to non league if it wasn't to happen. If Town were not to give him a new deal clubs in Conference and below would be all over him.

Also as I have said before the standard in this league isn't as bad as you would think, you do get the odd "Fat Bloke" playing but teams like Scarborough, South Shields and a few others will have half a dozen players that have either been pros or at least should have been so he's had a good education this season.

I can't remark on him as a footballer.  But I think I married his sister.  First name 'always'

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Max is carrying a groin injury at the moment but obvs wants to play in every game so was taken off, not for a particular foul in the match, but so he is available to take part in another 2 games this week.
Also, an interesting thing to note, is that Max has a trigger in his existing contract which can be exercised as, if and when it is seen fit to do so. The negotiations were done on his current contract so his wages for next season etc are already set in stone if used.
And finally, the seadogs may well want to keep Max, but he is town thru and thru and would relish the chance to actually be given a chance to fight for a place in the starting 11 at Blundell Park for the mighty mariners!

I haven`t seen the lad play but given his age and reviews as a long term fan I would argue he is at worst a player who should be considered a squad player for next Season even if it results in him being loaned out again? A homegrown squad player is a better asset than a journeyman who isn`t committed to the cause playing 2nd fiddle to the first choice in whatever position.Over the years most home grown players seem to have had the ability to raise their game by a few % over their actual ability when chucked into games. We need these player`s coming through it will save the Club a lot of money in the short and long term.

This!!

One of the better rules the EFL have introduced IMO.

Harry Clifton may well be in the match day squad but we need a couple of others and Max seems the obvious candidate together with a Youth Team 'star' from time to time.

I cannot see Sawyer being kept on given he has been nowhere near the first team although Keeble MAY get another year??

Hasn't Keeble been an unused sub once or twice? He looks quite a good player from what i have seen of the reserves. Whether he will make the step up, i don't know.

Powles came on as Sub, while Sawyer, McMillan and Davis, were unused subs against Sunderland in the excrement trophy, but Keeble made the bench as an unused sub for the first two games of the season..

Heard good reviews about Paul Jones who was signed from Norwich youths.

Thanks. Thought Keeble had made the bench, but wasn't sure.
