The only positive that we can take from the game today, is the fact that we don’t have an air raid siren play every time we have a corner.

Looks like either we’ll get relegated and/or they might get promoted, so we might not have to endure that again anytime soon.

I know it’s an overused phrase but....the game has gone!

If you thought that was embarrassing, that is by far the worst stadium announcer I’ve ever heard!

Your poor old Gran must think the war is still on going if she lives near the bombing range down Friskney marsh.

Result aside, because Lincoln would have beaten us today regardless; that air raid siren is chronic.

I’m glad I don’t have to listen to that at every home game.

The irony of it is that the 617 dambusters, and all of the other squadrons in Lincolnshire, were the bombers not the bombed. You only heard the sirens in the war because you was those being bombed

Totally wrong, all airfields were Luftwaffe targets and every airfield, Village and Town had air raid sirens.
Scampton was bombed a few times and a returning bomber was even followed home by a German fighter and shot down a few miles from Scampton with the loss of all aircrew.
It's good to see the many memorials at the various small and now unused airfields and one of note is RAF Lisset between Driffield and Bridlington in memorial to 158 Squadron.
There is a huge metal cut out of Aircrew which looks almost cartoon like with the sun behind, the Airfield itself has been turned into a wind farm but with each of the turbines named in honour of a lost bomber and crew with the final one in memory of the ground crew that died in bombing raids.
Thought provoking stuff.
Football rivalry is good and should never be watered down but I love their nod to the local heroes who flew from Scampton and all other RAF bases across Britain.
May they never be forgotten.

Correct.

I used to work in a hangar at RAF Marham that was left intact during a recent station re-jig because it was a listed building of historical value because it had bullet holes in the roof from a Luftwaffe raid. I was also posted to RAF Benson which I believe is still the most bombed single military site in Britain.

I saw the Bomber Command memorial at Lincoln for the first time today. Striking, rather fittingly.

I think I should complain to the FA because as someone who has served in Iraq, we had the air raid siren going off several times a day, every day for months on end due to mortars being fired at us. Thanks for inflaming my PTSD Lincoln you inconsiderate twits.

But heroes from Lincs served in all branches of the armed forces and merchant marine. If it's about celebrating local heroes they might just as well do a thing for L Detachment*, or the Grenadier Guards, or the Lincs Regiment or Paras, or RN or Merchant Navy, RN Reserve.

* at least two founder members were Lincs lads - 'Gentleman Jim' Almond and that trawlerman from GY whose name escapes me at the moment

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

What part of Bomber County don't you understand?
The original post was about the air raid siren which is in deference to the Dambusters based at Scampton, I was replying to the poster who said the bomber squadrons weren't bombed themselves.

I flipping understand what Bomber County means. It's your comment that I was challenging: this one, 'I love their nod to the local heroes who flew from Scampton and all other RAF bases across Britain.' There might have been loads of bomber bases in Lincs but that doesn't mean Bomber Command was full of Yellowbellies.

Blimey, that's a bit sweary.
I never even suggested Bomber Command was full of Yellowbellies, you've even quoted my line "Scampton and all other RAF bases across Britain" so I'm a bit confused as to your actual beef about this.

It took 70 years to get them a proper memorial in Lincolnshire, shameful.
When you see a bunch of tossers at Lincoln city us the name 617 squadron for a chavvy football crew it makes my blood boil, flipping male masturbators.

If you're talking about the one at the top of Canwick Hill, yes it's taken too long.
But Lincolnshire Towns and Villages are absolutely littered (if that's the right term) with hidden memorial gems.
Some I've found by accident, some I've been told about. All are worth standing in front of for a few minutes.
