Just watched the game in a local boozer...well the majority of it as the game didnt come on stream until just after the 2nd goal went in....and based on the 50-60 mins i saw then what an unner shower of shite.
Hardly any attempt to play anything constructive...players hopelessly kicking the ball in the air in the general direction of the Lincoln goal....zero cohesion....zero passion.....minimal fight ... zero anticipation and then slow to react.....no one grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck  .worst 45 mins i think i have seen this season.
Our attacking approach seemed to revolve around Clarkes "long" throw....its like taking a plastic knife to a gun fight trying to outdo Lincoln at their own game.

Fkin woeful.

The poor guy has got to break the natural instincts Slade has instilled. Did you ever really think we were going to beat Lincoln?!

If so, you're about as delusional as the board's support for Slade. Give MJ a transfer window AT LEAST. girl private.

Ben Davies was a midfielder once. As for the others, who else we got? No-one comes in and does anything different. We have a sh1t squad and a sh1t team.

He's going to do intercourse all. And can we afford to give him a transfer window, we'll be in the bloody Conference again by then

I thought the new manager supposed to be coming in to save us from relegation, that's why every fornicator was whining and moaning about how long it was taking to appoint someone. This bloke is is not going to do that in fact he's going to do nothing different to what Wilko could have done if he had been left in charge until May

Sure blame Slade all you like, it probably is all down to him, but Jolley isn't going to make any difference whatsoever but suddenly people appear to be prepared to accept relegation because 'he's new' and we have to 'give him a chance'

Put it how you like if we go down he's failed just like Wilko would probably have done, nothing has changed

Agreed and he's not going to turn them into Premier League quality players but everyone moaned about Slade's tactics, surely he could change those. He was also supposed to bring a new attitude to the team and get the best (however little that may be) out of the team

Using his financial consultant hat he might prove to be be useful for is telling them where to invest their over-inflated and totally undeserved wage packets I suppose

You need to concentrate more because almost  the entire Fishy has spent the last fortnight angrily pressing home the fact that we won't win again, the new guy can do nothing to reverse this awful season, we'll be lucky if the bottom two keep losing as it's the only way we can stay up as WE WON'T WIN ANY MORE GAMES.

Then, fook me, we lose to a side riding high in play-offs and some on here are ANGRY ABOUT THAT.

Spot on Swin. You get a nice big tick ✅ from me 😄

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Completely crumbled after the first goal for 10 minutes. We should’ve been in front before they scored. Utterly dreadful 2nd half.

I’m shocked that Hall-Johnson is playing when Mills is fit. The people who allowed Shaun Pearson to leave and signed Clarke need lining up and shooting.

I thought Cardwell had looked a threat first half and Matt had been garbage. So I was surprised to see Cardwell get subbed. I have to say I think the subs made us worse.

We could have the best manager in the world and he would struggle to get this bunch to play well,

If we stay up its because two other teams are worse than us.

No gloating from me, a game played in terribly windy conditions. The main difference for me is we coped better with the wind when we were against it than you did. I didn't think Town were that bad but we were def more clinical.

Sounds about right, there's still a team somewhere in there who can get some points and pull away, for me. Problem is it'll take MJ at least 3 games to get a view on who really cares about this club and who can recover from the disastrous Slade reign.

Goalkeeper apart we have at least one very poor player in every department. The fact that Jackson, Wilks and Vernam have all been sat out injured just shows the desperation of the situation, most of this disaster has been Fenty self induced, other parts have been out of our hands entirely.

Unfortunately Mr Slade has assembled a very average squad of players so unfortunately whichever 11 start the outcome is pretty much the same.

Looks to me like the only options left are to play Macalister  to protect the back 4 and Wilks up top to add some pace

No you are the sharp object, excrement decision to play Woolford and still following Slade's tactics of all back for a corner which didn't work today as they scored from one.

Why not treat yourself and actually get to a game then you can see how excrement we were.

Jolley stated that the slate was to be wiped clean for the team upon his arrival. They've all had a chance to show what they're about in both a home game and away. I'd think he's gathered enough on them all to start with the sharp end of football management and ring the changes now, any more continuation of Slade Syndrome and the selection of our repeat offenders and we're effectively packing our bags for the Conference.
He surely knows that but needs to show he does with the next team selection.

I agree. He must have been desperate to take this job. .

Obviously, out of work, just relegated with his last club, in fact no different (apart from far less experience) than all the old hacks who applied but who weren't considered for the job.

Must have spun Fenty a good yarn or given him investment advice for where to put the benign loan money when he gets it

So Jolley isn't so wonderful then, in fact if he is continuing with more of the same is he Slade Mk2?

Absolutely spot on again Swin. It’s a nice big tick from me ✅

Unless you are called McAllister obviously.

There has to be a reasonable and obvious background to his strange omission. He was abducted by a UFO for a month, returned and is now terrified of wide open grassy spaces and white painted lines is my guess, but I'm far from an expert on these things

Who would you have gone with, Vernon or Hooper?

No answer on this one yet, but to my mind they were the only other forwards available for selection today.

Basically our squad is very bad, it’s no use slagging off our brand new manager. I’m not convinced any other selection would have done any better today.

Nah, just messageboard syndrome. People get worked up when reading the same stuff again and again on forums. Where you'd once have had  moan with your mates at the pub and forgotten about by the next day, you can now spend all night reinforcing whichever mood has taken you.

That said, even if we don't ultimately stay up, I'd expect to see a decent improvement before the end of the season, because otherwise, what's the point in making the change?

In Jolley's defence as regards his selection of the usual suspects, I doubt there are many managers who would come in and no select their most experienced players who have hundreds of appearances at a higher level between them. Not to mention that we're not exactly packed with alternatives who look like they might make much of an improvement.

No gloating from me, a game played in terribly windy conditions. The main difference for me is we coped better with the wind when we were against it than you did. I didn't think Town were that bad but we were def more clinical.

I'd definitely agree especially with the bit in bold, apart from Lincoln having better players than us in many parts of the pitch today they also have a couple of  things in spades that we lack - confidence and belief. They are a club on the up based on some solid investment and a robust plan we are a rudderless shambles ATM on and off the pitch.

I did worry when I saw the selection but up until the 1st goal we did o.k. then a 10 minute collapse did for us. Even going in at 3 -1 we didn't/don't have the legs to come out and generate and tempo and in the final 3rd in front of goal we look like 6 years old kids with no positional sense crowding around the ball and just snatching at it.

I get MJ has nothing to work with and is still finding his feet but unless they where injured I'm not sure why he took off Cardwell ahead of Matt and RHB to add the anonymous Rose alongside the even more anonymous Berret. Though I would say McSheffery looks like he still has a little bit left to give and if Fox can get fitter he'd be one for next season,

Woolford, Clarke and Collins perfectly illustrate that there are too many players in this team that are either too old or not good enough and inevitably   will take us down, a few weeks ago when I hadn't faced up to reality I spouted I could do another non league stint, now though as it approaches reality I'm not sure.

UTM!

Of course I flipping didn't which is why I have made no comment whatsoever on individual players

I comment merely on remarks from those who were unfortunate enough to be there, that absolutely nothing had changed, there was a high degree of hoofball and little else. No sign of anything different tactics wise and apparently little extra effort despite the new managers motivational skills

I appreciate he is stuck with a shite squad which he can't do much about signings wise but he has been employed to change things in areas he can affect and to keep us in this league. So far he shows no sign of achieving either and if he doesn't he will have done nothing Wilko couldn't . Of course if he fails he will be able to blame Slade in fact I suspect we will be blaming failure on Slade for as long as Fenty blames the ITV cash fiasco

Ipswin you are just a twit who Fenty summed up perfectly. Guy is anew Manager who quite rightly has tried out some different players and formations. Maybe he is a bit brighter than you, not flipping difficult, and come those crucial fixtures he will have a better idea of his preferred team.

Positively he makes changes and tries to influence a game much more so than other Managers, the big negative is his selection of Matt who is clueless & I honesty think Hooper and Cardwell may prove a useful partnership.

Today’s game emphasised our big problem which is Clarke & Collins, they are so slow in speed and thought that that we continually come under pressure when it’s not justified. No creativity no forward with any form of presence and if Jolley keeps us up he should win Manager of the year.

I'm not sure who 'Guy' is but if he has tried out different players how come you go on to slate his selection of Matt Collins and Clarke and how come reports from those who attended today call it 'hoofball' and 'same old' or 'no change' in respect of tactics and formation and more inportantly perhaps lack of effort.

If he is to be any good to us Jolley has to produce with what he has got. Surely he was employed primarily to keep us up, not to create a team for the National League. Lets hope he can do it.

Gtfc are in the position they are because of 1 reason .

The man at the top .

He should never have appointed Slade .

But he did .

Then he didn’t back him in the summer .

Then he made slade get the main assets off the wage bill .

Then he tried to blag the fans with a BS PR statement about backing slade

Then we fell off the cliff

Then he panicked and sacked slade

Then he hoped for a miracle

Now we’re looking at another relegation to non league under his tenure .

Just show the character of the man, when the going gets tough he disappears.

Mr Fenty if you had one ounce of integrity you wold make a statement accepting responsibility for our current position.

Well, I reckon we’re copulated but while we’ve still got a chance I’ll back them. The short space of time in which we conceded the goals really killed it. What a fine job Slade and ‘the club’ have done with recruitment this season, eh?

Got to say Lincoln are streets ahead of us in most respects now. I hope ‘some people’ are sitting at home wondering why Lincoln’s fanbase is probably 10-20 years younger than ours as an average, why their ground is full despite achieving no more thus far than we did last season etc etc.

That said there was some odd stuff about them. Firstly the mosaic was impressive - although maybe a bit imperial Japan - but what was that banner about? You’ve been better than us three seasons in the last eight - the shadow is near enough non-existent. What was that hideously overweight div in front of the 617 lot doing with a town shirt? Thanks for the money for buying it but your interpretive dance could do with some work because it wasn’t clear what was going on.

Lastly yes they have got big crowds and fair play to them for attracting them back but they were fairly quiet for the majority of the game. I was expecting big things really and it would have been good if we hadn’t have been so excrement so we could have had a bit of singing contest or whatever. After the game I experienced an odd atmosphere among their fans.

Coming out of BP you come across real salt of the earth type people, swearing, occasionally arguments and disagreements etc. Coming out of the ground amongst their fans today I could have been in Tescos. Nothing I heard then would indicate football fans to me. We are a completely different type of person to them generally. I prefer our hardier, more partisan way.

Same game as always. Wasn't really a fan of the team but to be fair, it's the same old story whoever we play. Started off alright, capitulated when we conceded and then it became a nothing game because we create naff all.

Lincoln were bang average today but probably had one of their easier afternoons of the season. Worrying times.

Good post LH I believe the guy with the Town shirt was Matt Rhead's body double.

Their bubble will burst one Saint Danny & Nicky leave for bigger things, which inevitability they will.

BTW I never realized what a moaning tw@t Danny Cowley is, as time he was jumping around like a "competitive" dad at a kids game.

Almost forgot: the sniffer dog at the gate jumped on me today. I was wearing my farmer rig of a wax Barbour and a flat cap that I usually wear on the fields with the dog. The handler pulled me to one side for a search to which I said “it’ll be dog treats”. He replied “oh yeah, that old chestnut”. Search revealed I was carrying three carrier bags and - you guessed it - dog treats. The security team have had Lincoln’s pants down if they’ve convinced them they are using trained dogs as properly trained dogs would ignore treats and only respond to pyro or drugs.

Yes that was very noticeable. The Cowleys took charge of the the pre match warm up. Both brothers ran the game from the touchline, and have obviously instilled into their players how to manage a game, by slowing it down at the right times, to press home any advantage. They were the main crowd cheerleaders and seemed to be in complete control of the club from top to bottom.

Good luck to them I say, although it would get on my nerves pretty quickly if the manager was jumping about like that all the time.

If we were in a playoff place I would let the manager walk round his touch line area in a mankini, thank goodness it's not fatty Evans.

Stewards were awful today. Telling us to sit in our seats 70 minutes before KO, as it would cause ‘chaos’ otherwise. Just generally being nit-picky, with showing tickets after every toilet trip.

Cowley looked like a 4th Division Klopp at times today, what p1ssed me off was the ref being sucked in by their players (Rhead) going down with what looked like head injures when Town got a break on, the Rhead one was shocking but a few of the tried it. Their players do that because they have been told to I'm afraid.

We haven't managed to beat Crewe, Morecombe, Port Vale or any other relegation struggler in recent months, why all of a sudden do people expect us to beat a team who's been around the play-offs all season, whether they're local rivals or not?....outcome was pretty much certain this afternoon before we even kicked a ball.

Id like to add how the intercourse did woolford miss from 2 years in the 1st half. Easier to score and he hit the post

The big Sutton United fan we know through work hates the Cowleys for their whinging and the cynical play of their teams (back from when they were are Concord, I'd imagine).

Still, what else can you expect from a couple of games teachers?

Well it’s no different to any other week is it? We let a football idiot sign a load of excrement players and he and the board sold the best ones. I’m just trying to lighten the mood a bit. Didn’t any of the other 70 odd posts cover it for you?

Who’s condemned him? Far too early to tell if he’ll be a success. I think he needs to pick a side and a formation fairly quickly and stick with it to allow the players some consistency. I didn’t really hear him getting any shite yesterday.
I don’t think he’d have got the job at any other league club, that doesn’t mean he won’t do a good job here.

I didn't think you actually played that bad, but I was not sure what, as a team you were trying to do. No pattern or style of play. Playing for set pieces, and long throws..

Thought your lad that played more centrally up front had a decent touch, but the black fella up front and your left back were two of the worst professionals I have seen. Your keeper might be a decent shot stopper but, wow, his kicking.

You will stay up though. Mainly I think because Chesterfield won't claw back the points..

He suffered an injury to his buttock which has affected his kicking, but we had to bring him back in because even injured, he is or best keeper. The front guy is Jamille Matt, who i agree is terrible and the left back only joined last week as a free agent as our regular (not very good) left back has a long term injury. I don't think the new lad looks much better to be honest but that may be because he hasn't played for a while. Our team actually look all right in the main, but we are just not ruthless enough in either box. Woolford should have scored the first goal but didn't and once we concede, the lack of confidence kicks in.

I had a really good look at Matt (the lad up front you mention) yesterday, when all hope of a positive result had gone. It was quite comical in a bizarre sort of way just how bad he is. He cannot seem to run properly, almost like he is running on tip toes, and doesn't seem to have any balance.

His touch is practically non existent and never seems to be anywhere near the goal. Something badly amiss there, he cannot have been this bad all his career, surely?

That Matt & Hooper would struggle to get into a local Sunday league team, they must be the worst so called Pro's i have ever seen in 55 years of watching GTFC & other football teams.  I would suggest throw all caution out of the window & pile everyone forward & attempt to score 3 goals in the remaining games, failure to do so could well see us relegated.

I was very surprised Jolley took Cardwell off and left that clown up front as our only striker.

Said exactly the same to my brother when the teams came back out. Not the answer for our goal scoring problem but the only forward we have who gives 100% all the time and can actually control and hold the ball up is Vernon. Maybe Vernon and a more mobile player like Cardwell/Jackson would give us better options.

However, still need a midfield capable of creating something for the forwards to feed off and the only available option that has not been tried is McAllister so the mystery surrounding him continues. Think we need Clifton more central and whilst Summerfield remains injury I would play Woolford before Berrett simply because he is a better footballer. We could then do with a rejuvenated Dembele or DJ to give us width and pace.

On a positive note think Hall-Johnson is showing potential and had great run and cross in the first half. Given we were told by MJ he wanted athletic players his substitutions were a surprise but I accept he is probably searching for a formula that probably does not exist.

Just watched the highlights properly on the YouTube channel.

After the 2nd goal Collins gives Clarke a bit of advice on what he should have done and then glanced over at him again not looking best pleased with him.

So much wrong with the defending on all the clips were Lincoln were attacking. And i dont just mean the defence.

After watching the highlights,it appears the same old problem everybody back behind the ball  defending as soon as it is cleared goes to one of their players who just puts it back into the mix.

You lose trust in solid trustworthy central defenders, you lose trust!

Very surprised to learn Keates has left Wrexham, doing well in 4th place. Want to come back Shaun?

Exactly time and again Clarke gets pulled out of position and easily beaten. This time he went wide into full back territory, was beaten so easily and of course wasn't in the middle to defend the cross which was put away with ease. That's what Collins was upset about. Clarke does not set a good example as captain.
And this thing having all players back for corners? Too many is bad - the penalty area is a sea of bodies which unsights the keeper and a shot from outside the area is almost certain to be deflected - exactly what happened for the first goal.

Watch Clarke as he initially goes over to the right hand side though. He does something I've seen him do before a few times at BP that's quite strange.

He runs to a point in the line of where the ball is travelling to, as if to wait for the ball so he can be forward-facing to get a better clearance. But what I've seen him do a few times now is go so far back (ahead of where the ball actually is) whilst the ball isn't travelling very fast. And an opposition attacker just nips in and takes it.

I reckon that's what Collins is initially telling him. You can see his hand gesture is as if to say "just get across to the ball and deal with it." Just guessing obviously and probably way off.

The corner thing ..my pal is manager of a local side (semi pro ) he reckons percentage wise its safer to do it the way we are doing it simply cos most teams leave 2 back anyway so therefore we should crowd out the attack with superior numbers . Regarding Clarke he's shi t really shi t at that nothing more to say on him really

Whilst we conceded from the corners, they were both second phase, which has been one of our biggest problems all season.

Solely down to not having an outlet, either a linking midfield who can bring the ball out,or the lack of any player outside our penalty area to pass to.

Funnily enough when we played Carlisle, whoever the commentators were that day were banging on about what a good player he'd always been and that Carlisle would need to keep an eye on him

I think the longer the game went on they realised that whatever threat he might have had when they'd seen him previously has now long since gone...

I'm not sure if it was the Carlisle game ( or maybe Cambridge?) when he had a chance in the six yard box but somehow managed to stumble over / tread on the ball instead of it ending up in the opposition net

You could argue he lacks confidence but it's also about ability.... the open goal he missed at the death against Cheltenham at home being a case in point

If he'd scored from either of those chances, we'd probably be better off points wise and not panicking so much about our current plight
