do we keep signing players that are in the twilight of their careers, even if they have a career left.  Good luck to Gary but the guy has hardly played in 2 years and we are pinning some hopes on him !!!  Quite simply we cannot be spending much money at all on strengthening the team, this was all to obvious right at the beginning of the season.  We are still a train crash waiting to happen even with a new manager in charge.  The top tier of the club is rotten and despite getting a good new prospect of a manager in, without the tools, Jolley like many before him will be powerless.  I personally think we will get ripped to pieces tomorrow, some of our key players are too old and I suspect we will once again be exposed all over the park tomorrow.  Would love to be proved wrong, but I will be amazed if we leave Sincil Bank with anything less than a two goal deficit defeat.  Bring on those red crosses, but 16 games tells its own story.

Why don't we just treat individual players on merit and give him a few games before judging? He might turn out to be an inspired, decisive signing. How about that?

It’s not like there’s a plethora of young players out of contract waiting to be signed.........what do we have to lose, he’s very experienced and might just provide what we need. UTM

I would suggest that it is because MJ has realised that Slade had left him with a largely crap squad and to try to improve it we can at this time only sign out of contract players.

Look on the brightside .... Jolley (if he is still here in the Summer) will have a virtual clean sheet to start with as only a few players remain under contract for next season.

Jolley moved very quickly to bring a replacement left back into the building as that was an obvious weakness.

He has also quickly identified there is an issue of quality in the final third, now as he can only work in the short term for now on a relatively closed market, then on paper McSheffreys (   ) looks like he can add quality, i certainly don't think we are looking to build a team around him for the next 3-4 seasons are we ?

Another old (34) ex Scunny and out of contract player Paul Hayes was taken up earlier in the season by Newport and he has chipped in with a few goals for them...a similar return would be very welcome.

The question is HOW. How have we arrived at the stage where we are completely stifled in our transfer choices, and have a tiny pool of talent available, mainly older unattached players.
The answer is SLADE.

Seems a decent signing to me, I'm sure he's convinced MJ that he's not just here to sit on the bench.

If he can improve the quality of the balls into the box, can set up some chances and take good free kicks he will do for me for a few weeks. Let's be honest the options are limited at this stage in the season. Credit MJ for trying to do something to add to the squad.

I hope he does but unfortunately we haven't got 'a few games' to make an evaluation. If he's as excrement tomorrow as what we have already got then he can't be 'given time', I noticed a post yesterday where Hooper Kelly, Woolford and Vernon were all slagged off - that's hardly 'getting behind the players' is it?

I agree with your sentiments but it is obvious to all that this is a signing to (hopefully) get us over the line.

If we do survive and Fenty is intent on staying then he must back the manager 100% to bring quality players in for next season. May I suggest  from a business point of view that we get 2 or 3 cracking signings during the first couple of weeks of the close season to show our intent and get the supporters behind the club and increase season ticket sales.

It is absolutely no use whatsoever of the board coming out after the season ends issuing rallying calls to get behind the new manager without first showing the intent, the signings and the investment to make next season the polar opposite of this.

If Fenty is to have any hope of getting the fans to put to one side what has gone on in the past he must have a new mindset; he must start to restructure the club, make a firm decision on what is happening with the stadium, invest in the correct calibre of player and start taking professional advice. If he cannot or will not change then why is he there? Failure to improve the club will just bring more demonstrations and fan apathy; there must be changes on and off the field, both Jolley and Fenty doing the right things, and yes those right things cost money.

In short Fenty has to decide what he at Blundell Park for. Is it so that he can plod along "helping" the club on a day to day basis and hoping to luck and keep us on life support, or is he there to invest properly in the team, the stadium the facilities and have goals to get us all fighting together and start to turn the club around.

I think most of us will back Jolley to the hilt (assuming we stay up) but it is essential that the board step up to the plate.

I don't get all this negativity about a player of obvious quality. Not only is he a creator (which we've been badly missing all season) he's also a dead ball specialist and a finisher on top! We are in a very perilous situation and in real danger of losing our league status. If he contributes a couple of goals, crosses, killer passes that get us a point here or there then he's worth his weight in gold for us at this moment in time. Jeez!

Certainly.  After getting very creative in their blame-shifting they can't get away from this one. The board's confidence vote in Slade after that dismal run and then facing the impending transfer window closing should never be forgotten for what it was. Gross negligence.

That as well. Negligent to the point of appointing Slade, a fool just as incompetent as the board. hiring him.

Just need Suliman to have a starring role in any of our games or the England Under 21s and I propose Slade be sectioned

I know its a long, long time ago but I'm old enough to remember several players in their "twilight" who did very, very well for us, how about Chris Nichol, Paul Futcher and Gary Birtles!! Lets give the new guy a chance, lets face it he can't really do any worse than what we've got can he?

As poor as we have been, it must be said that Lincoln are not as good as they're hyped up to be.. They're not running away with the league and not even in the play off places..

Slade v Cowley - We wouldn't have a chance

Jolley v Cowley - Is a completely different ball game

If Jolley is a big as tactician as he claims to be then i hope he may move away from what appeared to be an attempt at zonal marking last time out. That sort of system will be easy pickings for Lincoln at their normal set piece delivery.
They also seem to have the open play approach of delivering the diagonal ball from anywhere  in the oppositions half to the far corner of the "D" for Rhead to make his presence felt and pick up the second ball......not much changed there then.
Its shite to watch in one way but its pretty clear each player knows exactly what they are supposed to do and so they make it effective.
