I'll be there tomorrow hoping to see a team full of effort and hopefully a win.

But what we have to remember is that MJ can only work with what he has got.  It's a good one for his first match fully in charge because it's definitely winnable.  But it's the same group of players we have had during our p1ss poor streak.  What is MJ expected to do with them?  Changing the way we have played all season surely must be a challenge to good footballers with footballing brains, so I don't expect too much change in our style in 1 go. I've missed a few, but a lot of folk seem to think that they are still trying. So to my mind, the only thing MJ could have really worked on is the lack of confidence.  If we do go 1 down, it won't be easy but I'll still be trying to rally behind them.

I just pray that we don't go one down early doors.  The first goal tomorrow will be absolutely massive.  I'm expecting a good crowd and (at least at the beginning) a good atmosphere.
An early goal by us could get BP 'rocking', an early goal by them and the 'morgue' could easily return.

Good luck to you MJ and let's hope we can get some of the footballing fortune we surely deserve at last.  I'll take a scruffy 1-0 win, just to get the boys back on track and make sure we sell all our tickets for next week.    UTM

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Port Vale are not Barcelona. On paper it's one of the games we should be winning  if we stand a chance of staying up.

think a vale fan might be saying 'Gy are not Barca. On paper it's 1 of those games we should be winning if we stand a chance of staying up'

suspect it might end up in an ugly, awful draw

This team can win games, they showed that early on in the season even though the wins weren't convincing.  A little bit of belief from the players will go a long way and hopefully, MJ can instill it in them.

This was the team that beat Swindon, in what in my opinion, was the best home game this season, so the players ARE capable. Only Jones and Jamey Osbourne (Who played the last 4 minutes) from the team that night have left.

McKeown
Davies
Clarke
Collins
Mills
Dembele
Rose
Summerfield
Jaiyesimi (Substituted for J Osborne at  86' minutes)
Jones (Substituted for Vernon at 89' minutes)
Matt

Wasn't it Aspins first game as Port Vale boss when we won there?

Possibly only 3 or 4 of those that started will be in Towns starting line up 2moro

Hopefully we can play to our strengths under Jolly. According to some he is tactically astute so may know what we need do to win games like this. I hope he has a plan to bring out the best in what we have, sometimes that is enough.  Well-organised and well-prepared teams often beat teams with supposedly more skilful players, The best we can hope for is he's either a tactical genius or a great motivator...or both.

Problem there is that it was a bit of skill from Osborne which set up the winning goal. Not perhaps a chance that the current players would be able to create.

Damn, so essentially we won playing at least 2 players short then (perm any 2 from Woolford, Berrett, Dixon, Vernon)

I often think we’ve not been expecting enough of the squad and, to be frank, some of these have got away with murder this year as Slade and Fenty have taken the brunt of the fans’ anger.

The absolute, complete and utter minimum we should be expecting is a squad of players putting 100% in and running themselves into the ground for 90 minutes each week. There are some who walk off down the tunnel who have barely broken a sweat and don’t have a spot of mud on their kits. Absolute basics like following your man at set plays - Carlisle were queuing up unmarked to nod that second in last week and our lot were stood with their hands on their hips. It’s not been good enough by a long stretch. Some play like they’re undroppable - mainly because that’s been the case this year b

There’s a reason cup upsets happen and that’s generally because teams turn up, are organised and play as if their lives depend on it.

I’m not expecting the centre halves to start spraying 60-yard pinpoint passes or the forwards to suddenly beat 4 men and lash one into the top corner - but I am expecting Jolley to have put a fire under their arses and see an upturn in concentration and effort from a team that have put us in this position.

I am not expecting too much,

If you look at the 10 games 4 or 5 are winnable 2 others we could get a draw,

SO 4 WINS =12PTS  +2 DRAWS =  14 Points in total,

50 points  will be enough to stay up.

We are going to have a Jolley good time BELIEVE

YES                               - there is a 'lot of moulding' to be done to get this team winning.

I'm hoping that this can happen in the last 5 games of the season - to inject confidence in to next season.

People across social media seem to be forgetting we have the most imbalanced square had in the history of football.

Great to see a proper left back rather than having a square peg in a round hole BUT nobody would have been excited had we signed Fox in pre season.  A handful of games at Stevenage before getting binned. Hope the lad does well, at least he will give us bad lance

I don't think it's expecting too much for us to beat a team at BP who are below us in a very poor league. With a new man at the helm some of these "underperforming" players could view the remainder of the season as an opportunity to play for a new contract. As far as the loan players are concerned, I don't think Jolley will utilise them very much unless he really has to. He will be using every opportunity to appraise his signed squad and he knows that the loan players will return to their parent clubs. Therefore unless they become permanently available in the summer and figure in his long term plans, it would be pointless giving them much game time unless absolutely necessary.

Not sure it'll make much difference Rancido. Aren't most of the signed squad gone by the summer anyway, and we're left with 4 or 5 players?  Part of whether he can motivate them I think will also come down to their character and whether they already have an eye on the exit door.

So if their contracts are up surely that would be motivation enough to impress a new manager otherwise they will be unemployed in the summer.

At some point, we must win a game-best be positive and not nervous wrecks, fortune favours the brave and all that lot.

We can either go down with a wimp or fight for every ball and give ourselves a chance. Ten cup finals await us we need battlers for the task ahead it's up to the players and the fans to show Jolly what GTFC is all about.

Agree with Bigdog, to lift the confidence of the team especially the strikers in what in reality is 4 days is a massive task.

A 0 - 0 may not be a popular result but it would be an improvement on recent weeks.

That's why I was mentioning character.

I agree with you in that I would hope it would be enough motivation - and it certainly would be if it was my job on the line, but from some of what we have seen I'm not sure all the players are as conscientious as yourself.

As has been mentioned on here already with players laughing at Cambridge after we lost - some seem to not be putting in the effort or don't have the fight in them or the worry about our plight as they won't be here in the summer and would get another contract somewhere in the league.

I think it speaks volumes about some of the players we have now in the building, against the players that we have let go (Disley, Pearson, etc.) and in the sides we had under Hurst who certainly had that pride, conscientiousness and drive.

Its going to be interesting to see if MJ can motivate the players who he feels haven't or aren't putting in the effort or whether he thinks he would get more out of the loan players.

I don't want the above to sound all doom and gloom as I don't think it is.

I do feel that there is a good 14 or 15 players in our current squad that would have the attitude and capability of getting us out of this current situation.  I just don't think we've been playing what would be our strongest squad and we've generally been carrying some players who have been anonymous and I'm hoping that coming in from the outside, with new ideas that MJ will offer something different.

I think the biggest game this season is the next one. And then the one after that. and so on until the last one.

Nah not really,  out of the players who’s deals run out most of them will be pretty confident of finding work next season and I doubt that any are that bothered about whether it’s with GTFC, in the EFL or playing in some minor footballing nation.

Most of them if not all don’t have roots in the Town and many have networks well away from NEL so they have options in terms of where a new employer could be. Many are loanees so will just go back to their clubs.

This is not a pop at Town players but just the “fixed term contract” life of lower league footballer. Bowman worked brilliantly for the highest levels but completely fuked up lower league and semi pro.

For me the final TEN GAMES ARE ALL MASSIVE.

This will show us and Mike Jolley who has the character and wants to do battle for GTFC.

Yeah, not many are local but that is the same for most teams you become one of us when you put that shirt on. It's the sign of any professional no matter what level he will run through walls for the cause just like our promotion team did.

Be positive all the remaining games are winnable. That is not the same as saying we will win them all but if players have the mindset that they cannot win a game, they probably won't. I hope MJ reminds them of the games they won earlier in the season and what winning and scoring goals felt like. This will help get their minds in the right place and build confidence. As someone else said we are not playing Barcelona and the fans should help lift the spirits too.

Slade is such a bad manager/coach that now he's gone maybe we will see something from the players we have never seen before 🤞
Ye never know under all that dross there my be a couple of half decent players.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

It is not just lower-league mercenaries.  PSG players are highly-paid mercenaries.  Out for their own ends above the team.  They appeared to be disinterested in overcoming Real Madrid in the second leg (where had had won all 19 home games this season).

It was reported that the front 3 only made 2 passes all game to the other 2 forward players.  Mbappe only had to square the ball to Cavanni for a goal.  Instead he shot wide from an acute angle. No wonder Cavanni did not pass to either of his "colleagues".

I suppose its only natural that you will get players who have taken stick throughout the season, who won't show much effort in trying to win matches even though they are being paid for the job. If that's the case then we should perciver with the one's that are.
Professional pride comes into it, no matter what your age is, plus the opportunity of another contract
