Just arrived home a short time ago from the shitshow of earlier. What an absolutely disgraceful and gutless performance.

This post from Poojah from nearly ten years ago sums up how I feel about this side:

Quoted Text
Dear Players of Grimsby Town FC

I am writing with regard to my absolute astonishment and disbelief as to the sheer magnitude of your complete lack of talent and failure to carry out the job for which you are paid to do. I am not aware of any swear word or other derogatory phrase in my current vocabulary which comes close to a description of your ‘performance’ (and I use that term loosely) this afternoon, but let me just say that you have collectively reached a level of inadequacy and ineptitude that neither I nor modern science had previously considered possible.

In fact I recall a time, in my youth, when I decided to call in sick at work and instead spent the entire day in my one bedroom flat wearing nothing but my underpants, eating toast and wánking furiously over second-rate Scandinavian porn. Yet somehow, I still managed to contribute more to my employer in that one Andrex-filled day than you complete bunch of toss-baskets have contributed to this club in your entire time here.

I would genuinely like to know how you pathetic little píssflaps sleep at night, knowing full well that you have taken my money and that of several thousand others and delivered precisely fúck all in return. I run a business myself, and I believe I could take any 4,000 of my customers at random; burn down their houses, impregnate their wives and then dismember their children before systematically sending them back in the post, limb-by-limb, and still ensure a level of customer satisfaction which exceeds that which I have experienced at Blundell Park at any time so far this season.

You are a total disgrace, not only to your profession, not only to the human race, but to nature itself. This may sound like an exaggeration, but believe me when I say that I have passed kidney stones which have brought me a greater level of pleasure and entertainment than watching each of you worthless excuses for professional footballers attempt to play a game you are clearly incapable of playing, week-in, week-out.

I considered, for a second, that I was perhaps being a little too harsh. But then I recalled that I have blindly given you all the benefit of the doubt for too long now. Yes, for too long you have failed to earn the air you’ve been breathing by offering any kind of tangible quality either as footballers or as people in general. As such, I feel it’s only fair that your supply runs out forthwith.

I trust, at this precise moment in time, that Mr Fenty is in his office tapping away on the Easyjet web site booking you all one-way flights to Zurich, complete with an overnight stay with our cheese eating friends at Dignitas. Don’t bother packing your toothbrush – you won’t need it.

In the event that our beloved chairman can’t afford the expense (understandable given that he’s soon going to have to assemble a new squad from scratch), then I am prepared to sell my family (including my unborn child) to a dubious consortium of Middle Eastern businessmen in order to pay for the flights. Christ, I’ll drive you there myself, one-by one, without sleep, if I have to.

Failing that, understanding that most dubious Middle Eastern businessmen are tied-up purchasing Premier League football clubs, I ask you to please take matters into your hands. Use your imagination, guys – strangle yourselves or cover yourself in tinfoil and take a fork to a nearby plug socket, or something. Just put yourselves and us fans out of our collective misery.

So, in summary, you pack of repugnant, sputum-filled, invertebrate bástards; leave this club now and don’t you fúcking dare look back. You’ve consistently demonstrated less passion and desire than can commonly be found within the contents of a sloth’s scrótum, so frankly you can just all fúck off – don’t pass go, don’t collect your wages, don’t ever come back to this town again.

I look forward to you serving me at my local McDonald’s drive-thru in the near future.

Yours sincerely

A very disillusioned Mariner

Over to you Mr Jolley...........good luck.

I don’t think there will ever be a better post than Poojah’s rant. Ever.

The saddest part about Poojah's excellent post is here we are now and it's s bad if not worse than back then.

Many players have come and gone in that time.

The only people that remain constant are  THE FANS AND FENTY

Not hard to work it out obviously we have caused all this decline over the years.

So sad that it is as relevant (or possibly even more relevant) today

How far haven't we come

This is not helping anyone. These are professional footballers not fools or con merchants like some we have had, and they know the side is failing. They don't need this sort of extra moanalot exhortation pressure when the name of the game is to get the goal that will set us on the right track.

Poojah was right for that time. It is not right for now. We have a new manager, players need to impress, they will try to impress. That is human nature. Help them to do it, don't hammer them further into the turf than they already are.

Fully concur with Ron.The intransigent view of some of our fans does nothing at all to alleviate the situation, if anything it compounds it. From what I saw yesterday I am of the firm opin ion that the players who have been the mainstay of the team for quite some time have developed a mindset under Slade that is going to be difficult to shift. I think this is where Jolley's expertise might be most beneficial. The fact that we played the kick it long and hope game yesterday suggests that Paul Wilkinson is also on the same wavelength. Given the opportunity to develop something completely different he hasn't managed to do so, but that's not hard to understand.

Paul is still a good coach on the technical side, no doubting that from where he's been, but perhaps it's the man management and psychology of getting players to work for you that is lacking. If Jolley can do that he's more than halfway there. There are players in the squad, most of whom didn't get a start yesterday who will probably bust a gut to impress, and there will be those who simply want away. That will happen close season, but in the meantime there's no point in banging the drum saying we're crap etc. The club needs the fans more now than probably ever before. Slash the entrance fee to all the remaining home games, fill Blundell Park, and let's try and see some return on what I think will be an astute managerial appointment.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Misdirected anger and feelings of overwhelming helplessness. The younger players have the energy required for the task but leadership at all levels is letting them down. If MJ can channel the fight and determination some still have we can survive. Give him that chance.

I agree ... But, the squad need to start acting like professionals and collectively start to deliver something that resembles something of a performance.  I can forgive players who are not the most skillful or the most intelligent.  I want to see our team coming off the pitch totally knackered, black and blue, covered in mud, being able to look at fans in the eyes - who've shelled out hard earned cash - knowing that they couldn't have given anything more out there.  If we have lost, had a proper go at it, so be it.  But what I won't accept is a lack of commitment and effort, or giving half-arsed performances, mugging of the fans who have spent hard earned money to go and watch them.

Many of these players think is acceptable to hide week in week out, but it's a two-way thing.  The players need to give us fans something back, showing us that there is some fight in them.  They need to wake up, take a look at themselves in the mirror and ask "are we doing the best we can as a unit?  Individually, Am I giving it 100%?".  MJ needs to come in quick and shift the negativity and stagnant aroma that's lingering around BP, but at a motivational level he needs to get inside the heads of those players. MJ needs to get the players to gel, or find others who can quickly form a cohesive organised unit and who are prepared to get stuck in for each other.  He also needs to find a leader amongst that lot, someone that the younger professionals respect and the others will follow through thick and thin.

Because the cold reality of the fact is that, unless we start winning games, it's unlikely that many of them will be professional footballers or even footballers come end of season.
