Seemed to work for Notts County (Nolan), Crawley (Kewell), Scunny (Alexander), Oldham (Wellens) and Newport (Flynn). Can see the rationale of going for a young, hungry upcoming coach or ex pro.

Campbell thrown his hat into the ring live on Sky Sports.

Who else could be interested? Where do you start?

Danny Collins? Led to believe he’s done his coaching badges and is well respected in the dressing room.

Maybe by experienced pros he was calling out a couple of the players in our aging defence?

Craig Bellamy if you're going down that route. He has contacts, speaks very well, has high standards and is a fiery illegitimate.

Interesting option but for every Nolan, Ince and Hasselbaink there is a Sheringham, Sutton or Adams. If we are going down this route then at least go for someone who has cut their teeth in coaching.

If you are going to go for young, up and coming, then look for someone who has done the hard yards below and worked his way up the ladder. Someone who has adjusted to every level he has encountered and has a system that works. You may get lucky if you go for the high profile ex player with no managerial experience, but i'd sooner have someone who has actually proven that he can acquire players at any given level and organise them into a cohesive unit. Someone who has earned the right.

I hope Wilko is calling on the  experience of Collins and Davies in setting up the team,

Between them we could be safe and who knows they might keep the job because at the moment no one else seems interested.

Not sure why the idea of Collins got some crosses, he's a former premiership and international player, with experience of lower league football to boot.

If this is the route we are going to go down and he has his badges he'd be as viable as any one of the other untried names mentioned.

From what's been said  though it would seem he hasn't applied either.

Why hasn't Dean Saunders been mentioned? Presumably he's quit management?

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly
