Grimsby seemed a side issue. Part of me wants us to offer him the job to see him squirm.

He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Smacks of the Edgar Davids, " I won't travel and manage the team away from home if it involves an overnight stay" scenario. Up North in League 2 is not what Sol Campbell had in mind, i'm sure. He can't now turn us down without at least going through the motions and his "advisers" will be frantically trying to engineer an exit strategy that doesn't damage him. I hope so anyway.  The fact that he has advisers means we should give him a very wide swerve.

"I’m willing to talk and hopefully conversations with people in the middle can progress so that I can actually speak face-to-face.” He's willing to talk, but with preset condtions. ie not really willing. Use his name to promote the vacancy, then take on a normal human being for the role then declare that we did our bit but Sol seemed unwilling to do the same. He'll then declare he 's decided to become an Olympic Bobsleigh champion.
