Sol Campbell turned down by Oxford.

If it's experience he needs to be gaining, then why not cut your teeth in management in League 2 and get your applications in to the likes of Grimsby or Cambridge

With his vast, 1 game experience of League Two football, I'm sure he would be able to do a great job for us. Until he decided not to bother after a few days because his footballing genius was being ignored/misunderstood/not appreciated (delete as applicable).

Would not want him anywhere near the club.

Complete and utter tool.

Would not be 1% interested in GTFC. Would all be about him.

Happy for ex prem or similar to come on board but not one that is as big a bell end as him.

IMHO of course 😉

Oxford sacked their previous manager in January, are only 5 points clear of relegation places, and their chairman has openly stated that he's not in any rush - meanwhile they are attracting the attention of David Unsworth, Craig Bellamy, and Sol Campbell.

No matter what your opinion of un-tried ex-Prem footballers cutting their teeth, all of this is construed as positive news for Oxford United - surely positive national media attention would help us find a new manager...

He's the sort of twit who would release all our decent players (if we had any that is) and then intercourse off to Shrewsbury

What experience does he have? We shouldn't want anyone without some sort of experience.
Didn't care than Phil Brown is not the manager. Disappointed about Askey who, to me, seemed the right type of person to take us forward. However, I can't blame him for staying with Macclesfield against coming to Grimsby with a 6 month contract. Good luck to him.

I don't think he'd dream of applying; like most people down south he doubtless thinks that Grimsby is near Newcastle. I'm sure the Board realise that we couldn't do with anyone who is learning the trade. We need someone who can firstly keep us up, and secondly rebuild from scratch in the summer.

And would have won the World Cup twice plus the Euros and then been player manager.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Oxford can attract these sort of managers because it is in commuting distance from London, not some northern outpost in the middle of nowhere.

If it had been during the transfer window, then (not now) would've possibly been a worthy idea due to contacts that he possibly still has within the game.

Am not doubting that his training/tactics wouldn't have been good, but, the players at the moment (imho) need someone that has been there, done it and designed the tshirt to lead them

Grimsby would be interested in speaking to former England defender Sol Campbell about their vacant managerial position.

I can see the press release now...

Russell Sol only said this morning he thinks it was a shrewd decision because he’s available and probably 10 games into next season, he wouldn’t be available because he’s in demand one of the greatest minds in football. Halfway through the season if he was available, he’d still be in demand one of the greatest minds in football but right now clubs aren’t changing managers so it’s opportunistic in that sense and that’s one of the reasons it’s been possible to bring Russell, Sol, and on top of which he thinks it’s a good time in terms of being able to assess the players and the players to be able to show him that they deserve a contract going forward. So there’s an opportunity both ways there, and in the close season no doubt we can strengthen on what we’ve got and fingers crossed next season we can get the 50 points we need as quickly as possible and then build on from that.

I think you're absolutely spot on.

Macclesfield had us sniffing round their manager and he wanted to come. They publically offered him more money and more resources to finish the job and now he wants to stay there.

Can somebody remind me of what happened when Paul Hurst left?

Well to be honest it actually depends entirely on how you view the situation- there's a very interesting study on this by Two American psychologists - they saw a game- have a read - it basically shows that people's bias in various situations comes from how they perceive their reality. In context- don't like John fenty you're prepared to accept any information to support that. So yes if your view is that everything fenty says is lies/wrong then that's what your going to take from any information given.

Has he not just said that Askey no longer wants to leave Macc?
Stuart McCall has told the Daily Mail he declined an offer to talk to Town. Phil Brown has clearly told Humberside he's swerved it.

I don't believe everything he says is lies or wrong, but it isn't going well is it?

I'm pretty sure there's more than an element of truth in the Brown and Askey stories. As Headingly pointed out it's being drip fed by Humberside, can't see how you can see this as some outrageous conspiracy I've fallen for.
Back to the crux of the matter, for Campbell.
As a person I find him unbearable for many reasons. His scatter-shot approach to everything he dabbles in will make him a terrible manager, I feel.

Whether he's waking up and decides ne needs to be an actor; "I think it's better to disappear for a couple of years and simply learn how to act in real workshops. I've already been offered some obvious parts and turned them down. I want to go down the workshop track because I know how much it's going to take to become a good actor. It'll also be a test for me to tell if I'm going to like it."

Or failing at and losing interest in being an actor: "I think to act you need emotion, and I've got a lot of that... But then you've got to be willing to show that... I did look at the acting world, but my wife tells me it's a strange world, and I've decided to pursue other things."

Or waking up and deciding to be a Tory MP: "I have got so much to offer. I think it is very important for the black vote. If the 'black vote' votes it will clearly push someone over the line. I am for getting people from my background to vote. Politics is very hard work. You have to really commit to things. Some people get into it for the wrong reasons."

Or deciding against being an MP: "My ambitions lie elsewhere in the political arena. There are a lot of discussions to be had which I believe is the proper way to get to the right conclusion."

Or just going for it and being Mayor of London: "I bring something new to the table. This is a whole new road for me, something I can get my teeth into, but I just felt it was something I had to do. I come from a working-class background, it wasn't easy for me at all, but I worked hard. And now it's about giving something back"

And finally deciding to become a footy manager. Not just any old footy manager of course:
"Everyone has their own destiny. Mine is to lead a top team in Europe and then -- who knows? -- England.
I am ready for it, for all the challenges.
"

It's a big NO from me thanks.

I m not trying to argue with you - i just think when I read reports- that I don't know that Stuart Mcall told the mail he turned it down, didn't hear the call and equally I don't know that Phil Brown told humberside he's not in either. In law it's called hearsay- and I m not down with it. Like to make my mind up on stuff I have seen all angles of

This in spades. I'm surprised he can get out of bed in the morning with the weight of that massive chip he has on his shoulder. Do us a favour Sol, go and open some bars in Spain and fill them with people worthy to be in your presence.

I understand what you mean, but most of those hearsay and rumour stories start with the press suggesting it is just that. Both of these stories were clearly from solid sources as they weren't stated as rumour and even when the club refuted the Brown story Mike White still said he stood by his info. There are rules for the press and complaints can be made about innacuracies, it's unlikely they'd stick by that info if it was just a rumour.

Humility not really a concept Campbell is aware of.

The funny thing about him is that, for all the world, he seems like a Walter Mitty type character but for the fact that his fantasy about being an international footballer was actually true!

Looks like it, seeing as they are the only two football managers in the entire country.

Anyone watching The Debate on SS1?? Geoff Shreeves has just asked him about being interested in GTFC job. He said he’d be interested basically. He’s so desperate for an opportunity but don’t get the feeling that this job is the right one for him. I expect him to put his name forward next week though!

I think given his recent comments he is being forced into putting himself forward.

Yeah, i think he has backed himself into a corner, and he can't now do anything other than show "interest". The media is watching, and probably loving it.

Yeah it could well have been a forced response to avoid making himself look stupid. If it was, we could expect him to pull out of the running claiming "the Club wasn't the right fit for me" or similar in the next week.
