I've already said I would of been happy with Brown but failing that there are better options than Askey.... Redfearn, McCall, Appleton, Megson or even Paul Ince. Any of these would walk in the door and the players would even put the mobiles down, when askey walks through the door they will probably stick their head phones on, that's the difference.

This team of deadbeat players are not going to be inspired by a non league manager with the Charisma of a damp rag, most of them don't give a excrement now, they know they are done with the club in a few months, we needed someone with league experience who would command respect. Yep, so he'll do for me. The 'charisma' thing is a double-edged sword: good for the fans and the media, but can lead to players (privy to the dressing room) thinking something like "What a two-faced, lying barsteward I've got managing me....". And nobody's 'charisma' works on everyone, anyway. |

We’re is this supposed 10am announcement people keep coming out with ??? Why would Askey want to come here after winning the last 2 games against 2nd positioned sides in the table and now 5 points clear at the top I don’t see the appeal for him to want to come here at this moment in time I really hope he does though because i believe he would be the right choice for us he knows the national leagues inside out for hungry players wanting to make a name for themselves rather than some of the journeymen last payday types we have here at the moment !!!

What would you do if you were Askey? Your team has just thrashed Tranmere and looks pretty certain to be back in the league next year. In the summer there could be a queue of L2 or even L1 clubs at your door with job offers.
You have just seen Brown turn down Grimsby for Fleetwood and he was unemployed. You are in a job and even if you decide to stay there will surely be a decent contract to secure the financial future of a mid-50s manager for a while.
I think you would ponder long and hard about leaving your winners to join strugglers in a relegation battle. Apart from the culture shock you know Fenty only wants to hedge his bets with rolling contracts so is there any security in a move? Is it worth uprooting a family to the other side of the country to a club where you could be a hate figure with the internet happy fans inside a year or fall out with Fenty over summer signings budget?
All these things will need to go through Askey’s mind several times before he makes up his mind. If Fenty pushes him with a time limit he is most likely to refuse the job.
Maybe I am seeing problems where none exist. I sincerely hope so and we get the business sorted out today or tomorrow at the latest. But I don’t think it is as cut and dried as some may believe.

Been reading about this all day and had to comment. If john does leave us for you (praying to the football gods he stays) then you'll have a cracking manager. Hes put together an unbelievable team this year from scratch with no budget and no backing from our useless owners. I hope your reliable source is big dave from the pub who heard about it of his mate jeff.

It's based on a source (and honestly I hate that term) who knows nothing about football, which means they couldn't possibly have made this up without coming from what is effectively 'the horses mouth. Brown was not offered it, he asked for a 6 figure sum which is closer to 200k than it is 100. Again, I'm not going to be up there starting a thread on it like Bentley over here, but John Askey will be made GTFC manager in the coming days. |

Something is drfinately brewing. On Maccs forum they say their board have offered JA a new contract sounds like last ditch tactics. If your not interested you come out and say no im staying. When nothing is said then theres usually something in it. Aint that right Doigy oh wait you didnt know lol.

Personally he doesn't fill me with joy nor does he fill me with despair. He struggled a lot in his first stint at Macclesfield and that is concerning, he was then allowed to build a team and after some struggles it seems he's got there. He's got a poor budget which is credit to him, what he does have is a good location to attract players and he was allowed time to build, he doesn't have either here.
With him at the helm I'm still not 100% (or 10000% if you're Bentley) he'll keep us up but he's certainly earnt the chance to.

I'd hate to be in JF shoes right now. If JA says no, then i haven't a scooby doo who id like.
I dont want a merry go round manager like Sheridan who will be back at Oldham before u know it lol.
Id much rather have either an ex prem player looking to get into management like Nolan (although not sure if he was the reason Orient got relegated) or a manager from below us. Id have accepted PB based on his experience. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
I hope one of the questions JF asks is " what style of football do you like to use "

Let me ask(ey) a question.
If we had approached a manager from Macclesfield Town before we appointed Slade would the town fans have embraced such an appointment.
Think some town fans are so set on moving away from slade and wilko that they happy to accept anyone outside the club.
Askeys never got promoted or really managed in the league and as much as i want a clean slate too am happy to take our time till after the weekend before making a rash decision.

One other point (someone else mentioned). I do feel for JF were BBC humberside is concerned....and i think I'd lose my sh*t if MD continues to post boll*cks. I think he needs to get a new source. Maybe they should directly speak to GTFC rather than going behind the clubs back. Thats were the relationship between Humberside and JF is slightly sore. I understand rumours etc but to me Humberside are being a tad unprofessional spouting fabricated slush.
Its like they want to be the first to announce things beforethe club. Its not right....and i can understand why he got abuse at the FF however it was the wrong way to do that.

I must admit I never understood this whole story. As I understand it, Woodhouse went to GTFC. RH said it was to become first team coach. GTFC said it was to get some advice. Don't know what Woodhouse said. The bit I didnt get is why, if he was going to get appointed as first team coach, was he not appointed as first team coach anyway. It wasnt going to stay secret for long if he was, and media report appointments of staff at football clubs all the time. This is what made me think there had been some confusion it what was being reported. |

I must admit I never understood this whole story.
As I understand it, Woodhouse went to GTFC. RH said it was to become first team coach. GTFC said it was to get some advice. Don't know what Woodhouse said.
The bit I didnt get is why, if he was going to get appointed as first team coach, was he not appointed as first team coach anyway. It wasnt going to stay secret for long if he was, and media report appointments of staff at football clubs all the time. This is what made me think there had been some confusion it what was being reported.
Yeah it was odd. I just dont like the way they conduct themselves sometimes. |

I think it would be best if all media outlets were made to only report official statements and press releases from the government, corporations, professional bodies and entities like football clubs for example. That way there would be no speculation or grey areas and we will only be told the absolute 100% truth at all times..

One other point (someone else mentioned). I do feel for JF were BBC humberside is concerned....and i think I'd lose my sh*t if MD continues to post boll*cks. I think he needs to get a new source. Maybe they should directly speak to GTFC rather than going behind the clubs back. Thats were the relationship between Humberside and JF is slightly sore. I understand rumours etc but to me Humberside are being a tad unprofessional spouting fabricated slush.
Its like they want to be the first to announce things beforethe club. Its not right....and i can understand why he got abuse at the FF however it was the wrong way to do that.

I wasn't keen on him but thought he was a good actor for the roles he did, the reason for him staying at home and not doing any more films was due to his terminally ill wife and looking after his kids. |

Ever since the dawn of social media and fans forums there have always been speculation when a club is searching for a new manager. We didn't really notice when Paul Bignot was sacked because John Fenty had through due diligence and after looking at his recent success, appointed our last manager before the dust had settled.
I do think that the GET and RH are getting their own back a bit because of the way Matt Dean was treated at The Fans Forum and that is why along with the likes of Bentley the club put out the statement today.
When the white smoke appears above Blundell Park we will all have our differing opinions whoever is appointed.
So lets just wait and see but when it happens let's get behind them and show our new manager that if he gets a team who plays decent football and puts the effort in we will behind him all the way.

Exactly it's a load of shite to cover up a mess. It was Slade meeting with Woodhouse. Why would it be surprise to him? Listen to the interview that Brid's chairman did at the time. It basically tells you that Woodhouse thought he was getting the job. |

I understand the point you're making, but in the instance of this week, RH have made themselves look pretty stupid in some of their coverage masquerading as news that was in fact cobbled together from chit chat, rumour, supposition and the old impeccable source that turns out to be wrong. The club have said sweet FA until today and can't be fairly said to have made a mockery of themselves. |

Lol indeed they do...especially in recent times. I dont tbh. But as a town fan id always accept what comes from the club whether its right or wrong as i think humberside news spouts mostly infactual bullsh*t. Im not like some fans that question everything but many years ago the GET and Humberside worked with town very well publishing and reporting positive things even if town lost. Nowaway days its like they are trying to belittle....and damage the clubs image (yes something the club have done have been a bit like a circus). Take the GET for example gone downhill massively they use to be close to town reporting on positive things now its like they constantly try to start unnecessary arguments. I guess they have to sell papers and get click baits. But thats just my opinion. I take it you are happy with the way RH are posting / reporting on things (regardless of how you feel about tbe board)? |

Radio Humberside has a duty to serve the fans, not the club. So if they believe the fans are interested in who’s rumoured to be the next manager their duty is to investigate it.
Journalism is about investigation and asking the questions fans want the answers to. I appreciate that doesn’t mean you make stuff up, but I don’t think RH make stuff up to be deliberately antagonistic. Their reputation is constantly on the line.
Mis-report often enough and you lose trust, as an old manager would say.
RH isn’t the mouthpiece of the club. It reports on the things that are often left unsaid so we, the fans, get a fuller picture. I think, on the whole, they do a very admirable job.

I agree Rich they are meant to serve the fans.
But recently they are making stuff up and are not "investigating" and asking questions and instead releasing statements tbat are not official.

Should journalists release 'official' statements? WFT? I believe there was some contact with Brown and that he/they decided not to take it further. I believe the club set up MD because of Slades dislike for him. Woodhouse thought he was going to be, or had been offered a job by Slade. Lots of RH and Gy Tel info comes from within the club, lately they have been fed red herrings for breakfast lunch and tea. Maybe PRwould be best done on the pitch tbh |

Not having a go at you, but it was evident at the fans forum that Fenty isn't always aware or claims later he forget that meetings with Matt Dean and a board member went on and it was from those meetings Matt Dean was claiming the information came from. |

If it is true that the first two choices have both turned us down (and i don't blame them for one minute) then the board will be hoping Wilko can get a result on Saturday to dig them out of a hole. If things go wrong over the next two or three weeks then God help them as it will turn very fiery.

Lol indeed they do...especially in recent times. I dont tbh. But as a town fan id always accept what comes from the club whether its right or wrong as i think humberside news spouts mostly infactual bullsh*t. Im not like some fans that question everything but many years ago the GET and Humberside worked with town very well publishing and reporting positive things even if town lost. Nowaway days its like they are trying to belittle....and damage the clubs image (yes something the club have done have been a bit like a circus). Take the GET for example gone downhill massively they use to be close to town reporting on positive things now its like they constantly try to start unnecessary arguments. I guess they have to sell papers and get click baits.
But thats just my opinion.
I take it you are happy with the way RH are posting / reporting on things (regardless of how you feel about tbe board)?
If RH and the GT are now trying to belittle the club, how much of that is due to the way the club Fenty has treated them? Not saying it would be right to belittle the club, but it just goes to show that Public Relations is important. |
