Paul Wilkinson to be announced as the permanent manager till the end of the season with David Byrne as his number two. Absolute disgrace IMO. Been a part of the problem for the last 10 months, done nothing in his entire coaching career to suggest he can get us out of this mess, responsible for at least 3 poor signings (killip, Kelly, hooper) , bottled the chance to shake things up and put his stamp on things yesterday and then followed it with a totally slade like deluded interview.

We are well and truly doomed, relegation is a certainty. What a complete and utter shambles throughout

Heard the same rumours, Sky have suposidly suspended betting as they believe Wilko will be appointed Manager till the end of the season https://scontent.flhr3-1.fna.f.....b3d1&oe=5B21FE67

If it is Paul Wilkinson it's a bloody terrible appointment and the board should be ashamed.

This is what I can see
Tomorrow a statement is put out saying Wilkinson is in charge until end of the season...

Come the end of the season when we have stayed up only because there were 2 shitter teams than us and Wilko has not won a game it will be announced Wilko has been appointed permanent manager.

This could be a Neil Woods style appointment.

I fully expect the interview process for a new manager to start this week

that the mountain of applicants the board are working through are ALL completely sh!t

Well, we will need a LOT of penalties until the end of the season then. Because I can`t see us scoring any other way at the moment. At least not with the way Slade/Wilko wants us to play.

This rumour should remain a rumour, and nothing more. (I really hope so at least).

If this is actually true I'll be going laaaaarge (well, maybe £20) on the 14/1 being offered on us going down.

This can't be true. Please God no.
Surely the board would know that this decision would be met with widespread derision and anger and would put us at massive risk of relegation. I know there's a record of incompetence but this would cement the perception that the club is obtusely choosing to smash itself to pieces.

Yeah, I've done 4 or 5 £5 bets going back the last few weeks (and one in November just before we had the oasis like run).

If so I wonder if he’ll walk into his first training session and have an opening line of “helllo playmates”?

I guess the problem is we're not that great a catch. Who has had success but isn't on the way back down who might realistically want it? I just can't see us getting anybody that inspiring sadly and maybe efficient and workmanlike is as good as we can hope for. I suspect 'doing a good job on a budget' figures high on our desirables list!

Just had a chicken curry if that counts. I need a beer now you mention it.

Askey has been at Macc since 1984 as player, coach and manager twice. Will he want to break that connection, especially with Macc at the top of the table and beating a near rival away yesterday?

I am trying not to face reality and you're spoiling it

Sorry! I wonder if we're showing any kind of ingenuity in trying to attract a McCall or Rosler? I'd hope we're offering a decent basic and a big intercourse off bonus if we stay up. I'm sure we're being as innovative as we always are.......

Are we talking about Wilko or Askey now ?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Just had a chicken curry if that counts. I need a beer now you mention it.

Askey has been at Macc since 1984 as player, coach and manager twice. Will he want to break that connection, especially with Macc at the top of the table and beating a near rival away yesterday?

To be honest I had never heard of him until last week, and whether he would be a good catch or not who knows? Nothing has been confirmed either way though, has it?

No to wilko.

Reminds me of the season we went down when we appointed woods and look how that ended up.

This club surely can't be that stupid.

Askey's not a bad shout for me, experienced, good man manager and maybe looking to move onto the next challenge.

Can't get too hung up on the lack of 'success' in these potential applicants, go for a conference promotion winner and you'll end up with Mark Cooper.

The problem is that looking in it's not going to really boost a CV if we stay up - we're 8 or 9 points clear, we should in theory stay up comfortably. However if you are McCall or Rosler and you take it and we go down then you've really damaged your reputation and future job prospects. If they take it and do keep us up then what? Not much of a budget, no squad, poor facilities, relatively high expectations. Sounds a dream job!

Surely to god JF learned from the last time he made this mistake, just cannot believe this would be true especially after yesterday’s performance, no just has to be a rumour.

When was the last time he realised or admitted a mistake let alone learn from it.

IF IF IF IF IF IF IF...this turns out to be true.....then THE ONLY half valid excuses can either be;

that the mountain of applicants the board are working through are ALL completely sh!t
or
the club have approached someone who is committed to finishing off their season on the brink of something but will come for next season

After Saturday there can be no excuses.

JF has made many intercourse ups in his time of running GTFC but after Saturdays debacle surely he cannot be that flipping stupid.

Anyone that puts Matt in the starting line up and brings Kelly on as a sub should not be allowed anywhere near a football club.

What on earth Wilkinson was thinking on Saturday is beyond me.

Fake News!  we need an experienced manager who will gain instant respect from the players and who has the
character to lift the confidence of the players and fans.
This won`t be Slade`s assistant who unfortunately has exceeded his limit, and seems miles away from being a Churchillian figure, so who has those characteristics and his mad enough to practise them here is a problem

RH reporting a rumour that says it’ll be Askey. It does sound as though we are close to an appointment being made but I expect that to be debunked by the club today and told they are taking their time to make the right choice.

I hope we bring someone new in but, it will take them at least 2-3 games to assess the current players, so that's more games lost and deeper into the crap. Unless he can spend the next 48 hours locked in room watching game videos to see who's crap and who's absolute crap, or Fenty can tell him the team selection as he's such a football expert!

It's inconceivable that the Wilkinson rumour is true. I can't think of one plausible reason why JF would give him the job now rather than just let him carry on and see how it goes.
Also have doubt about the Askey story as there isn't a single rumour on their forums, and it would have to be in the public domain if true. Think Bignot, everyone knew and it was the worst kept secret ever.
I think JF knows how deeply we're in trouble and he needs to pull something out of the hat fairly quickly. It cannot be Paul Wilkinson unless he wins his next three games but realistically that's no going to happen.

I assume it's a majoity board decision so if it turns out to be Wilko then at least 3 people would have to be immediately sectioned under the 1983 Mental Health Act

If Wilkie agrees to take the job it will only prove he is not fit to do it.

It may be wrong to bow to outside pressure but JF must surely understand that to offer the job to Paul is unfair given the attitude of so many supporters who tag him with Slade and would never give him a fair chance to be his own man. So the regime starts on a negative straightaway.

It has to be an outsider to look at the squad with fresh eyes, have no favourites and pick and play to win points regardless of entertainment value.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

Think about it Slade was quick and with no known other applicants involved, surely we won't make that mistake again, unless it's Brown we all know his due diligence and should have some of big Sam's rubbed off survival instincts.

Exactly this. He (Fenty) would be making the same mistake as when he appointed Slade again - why risk putting someone in charge who in some fans eyes is tainted?

This is a very difficult appointment - as Ron says we need an outsider who knows his stuff, yet will our first choice(s) put their reputation on the line in what is effectively a 12 game relegation battle? Troubling times, but once again the board have cocked up big time and are fighting fires yet again.

If Wilko is given the job, it would be yet another complete disaster.  He is not bright enough to light up a phone box !! I also believe the Boston guy would be a massive gamble as well as completely unproven at this level.  Why not try and prise John Coleman away from Accy Stanley, the guy has done a great job.  Hang on though, my argument is flawed.  Firstly, why would he want to swap his good footballing squad for our pile of shite, and also he may require some reasonable wages that would also count us out.  The clock is ticking for Town, the club remains a disaster zone under Fenty, and if the unthinkable happened and we went down, that would be that for GTFC in my opinion.

If we end up with Wilkinson or Askey from "a mountain" of applicants, the mountain must have been more like a molehill.

In some ways, that is the reason why he is no longer the Manager of said team.
