My 17 year old son went to the game today on a minimum wage buying a train and match ticket to witness a urine poor performance and be on the end of an offensive gesture from a player he was supporting. We all know who the player is and the two players whom thought this to be funny....Fenty deal with this, I personally, if there, would gladly have dealt with this more directly, cannot believe we have such wasters in the team

Absolute mercenary girl private. Apart from Macca, mills, Dembele and Summerfield the rest can intercourse right off.

This squad is a lot worse than the 09/10 Team. We are copulated.

Not saying it’s right at all and the player in question should rise above it but how much of this was people giving him excrement and getting some back? The player lives close to me - he’s a daft twit for doing it even more for that because he’ll be getting it back on the school run, in the supermarket etc now.

Sack them all and play the youths for the rest of the season,

At least they will put more effort in.

The only way we will stay up is that there are 2 teams worse than us,

AND

They must be really rubbish to be worse than us.

It’s about being professional though. I work for children’s services and get a lot of excrement on a daily basis but if I was to make one remark or gesture to a family I’d be sacked. It’s as simple as that.

Turn around and walk away.

I agree with your post however, Fenty won't deal with it.

I get that but wasn’t Anthony Elding declared a freeman of the town on here for giving it back to Lincoln fans?

Players (well Osbourne anyway) having a go at each other in recent days and nowplayers having a go at fans, fans having a go at all and sundry, the board having a go at the press and the fans. This is a sorry state of affairs and I can see no togetherness whatever. It will take a miracle worker to deal with all this. I feel very concerned.

Are you taking the p1ss ? Or was Elding playing for Lincoln at the time ?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

He should be sacked not because of the gesture,

BUT

Because he is rubbish at his job along with a few others.

Mills was one who at least tried ,

I did not realise Osborne was even playing until the 2 nd half.

Does it really matter? I don’t expect to get excrement off my mrs or family but if I get it off them I give it back as good as I get it. I wasn’t there today but I have seen a tweet suggesting he was just giving it back - which makes me think about that long thread on here about snowflakes a bit.

I was at the other end of the stand and did not see or hear the male masturbator song or gesture,

BUT

If they said it to Vernon and he replied he might have just trying to lighten the mood by responding in a light hearted way,

Having said that he still wants sacking because he is not very good at his job.

Player gets abuse off a load of people over a long period of time. Finally gives something back to someone and grown men can’t take it. Grow up.

I’ve no doubt that someone was probably being a male masturbator to him. You know full well he isn’t calling 800 fans that have made the trip male masturbators.

Fair play to him for standing up for himself, I’ve no doubt someone overstepped the mark for him to do that.

Absolutely wrong in my opinion! Players are 'professional' and should act in a ' professional' way, they are not Sunday league players, there have been countless far better GTFC   players  than this present rabble in my 50 years of  supporting, that have received often unfair abuse that  haven't responded in this way, it doesn't make unfair abuse right, but players need to be above that sort of response, i wasn't there, but if true the players involved should face serious consequences, it is mthem that are not  performing, not the fans!

Yep that's the solution Pete - let's place all our hopes of survival in the hands of a team consisting on untested 16/17 year olds!!!!

We’ll have to agree to disagree. IMO you give someone abuse, you can expect to get it back. I absolutely do not subscribe to this notion that you can sling all sorts of personal abuse at someone because they’re a professional football player.

At least they might actually care about GTFC and give 100% for the club

Be honest a 16/17 year old giving 100% is a damn sight better bet than the twits who turned out today and gave 10% (and most of that was running on and off the pitch at H/T and F/T) Todays team are not untested - they have been well tested and found to have failed abysmally

So because they're 'professional', that gives random Joe the right to verbally abuse them and they're supposed to stand there 'professionally' of course, and take it!!

That's ridiculous! Too many 'fans' think they have the right to say whatever they want to players nowadays because they pay their £18 entrance fee!! If they spoke to somebody in the street like that they'd get knocked out!

I went to a restaurant last week and in my opinion the chef took a little too long preparing my food, and when it eventually did come I was not happy with it at all. Could I have gone into the kitchen and called him a waste of space and told him he was not fit to wear those chefs whites? I could also have used some foul and abusive language, maybe some hand gestures to back up my displeasure and this chef would have to stand there and take it.... Because, let's remember... Hes a 'professional' chef!

I don't know what was said to make Vernon react the way he did but if it was anything like the abuse and disrespect he's received at Blundell Park over the last few months then actually I don't blame him. I'm not having that whilst warming up, he just decided to flick the male masturbator sign at our travelling support for no reason whatsoever... Anybody who thinks he did with no provocation at all needs their head testing!

Some people think they can dish out whatever abuse they want but react with such shock and outrage when they receive it back!!

FFS!

Sadly your chef analogy isn't a good one. You send crap food back and tell the waiter how poor the food is, the Chef has to cook another meal, this time to the standards expected. The players have had enough time to put right past failings.

If you give it - be prepare to get some in return. If you can`t take it in return, don`t be a p r i c k in the first place.
Easy as that.
What is upsetting is how this "team" played on the pitch. A new manager needs to be a very special person to get us out of this mess. In his contract he should be awarded a very big bonus if he keeps us from going down. Conference is a very real possibility now.

Yes, but you go and give the chef dogs abuse, you’re probably going to get something back. Actually, you’d probably get a smack.

We all know how many male masturbators go to away matches. You think an old pro like Scott Vernon is just going to give a male masturbator sign for no reason and to disrespect every fan there? Again, grow the intercourse up and stop crying. Embarrassing.

(That isn’t aimed at you btw, just the chef bit!)

I wasn't at that end of the stand so didn't see or hear anything, but it's not about grown men getting upset, there were young fans there and no matter what crap they were getting he shouldn't have responded like that.

If you can't see that then shame on you.

No you are wrong there, a good chef wouldn't  give you a 'smack' he would find out what's wrong with his food and put it right! I do not condone vindictive behaviour against any one player, I personally have never done it,Vernon isn't  the reason we are where we are, but considering he is a striker with  record of 4 goals in 50 games perhaps he should  keep his responses a bit lower key.

Didn't see the gesture but I was close to the fans reacting to 'something'. They were the same group who staged the Fenty out protest and argued with many others who wanted to support the team at 0-0. If there were 800 of us there then the disturbance only involved 10% of that.
I really hope that Mr. Fenty is not stubborn enough to tough it out by taking his normal seat in the Upper next week. Discretion etc.

Fenty is responsible for this situation so should be man enough to take the flak.
I wasnt there but I agree with the protests and letting players know what we think about them. Dont forget they are performers and we have to pay to see them so if they dont perform they deserve what they get. It doesnt seem long ago that Poojah was feted for offering to take the entire squad to Dignitas, and that was a better team than this bunch. Nobody got on his case.

I don't think Poojah abused Fenty and the players at 0-0 during play. To be quite clear, I want the whole Board replaced but points are the priority. After today the stakes will be raised, and fans nearly came to blows today.

I wasn't at that end of the stand so didn't see or hear anything, but it's not about grown men getting upset, there were young fans there and no matter what crap they were getting he shouldn't have responded like that.

If you can't see that then shame on you.

And if you’re gonna tarnish what was probably about a 2 second gesture to one person with deeply upsetting every young Mariner, then shame on you.

Sadly your chef analogy isn't a good one. You send crap food back and tell the waiter how poor the food is, the Chef has to cook another meal, this time to the standards expected. The players have had enough time to put right past failings.

I think you're missing the point here... You've outlined the correct way the voice ones displeasure at perceived poor food/service at a restaurant... Great, and incidentally that is pretty much  exactly what hapened. The point is, there are ways and means of voicing your displeasure at your football team or certain players' performance, and if, in your opinion the best and most effective way to do that is hurl vile abuse at them then in my opinion you should expect it back!

Hurling abuse at a chef for a bad meal is out of the ordinary, but why should footballers put up with it just because of their profession?!? Put yourself in the position of Scott Vernon, you've given your all for the team, however limited that contribution may be (despite what people may think of his ability or goal scoring record, nobody can deny he puts in 100% effort everytime he pulls on the shirt), you're trying to contribute to an upturn in form and all you receive from a section of the teams so-called 'fans' is name calling, abuse (both professional and personal) etc etc etc..... Would you be happy to just take it because of your job, or would you let your frustration, disappointment and anger spill over and allow yourself to react?

Regardless of profession, nobody should be subject to this sort of behaviour and nobody has the right to hurl abuse just because a certain players turns out for 'their' teams nd they have paid an entrance fee!

All this "there were families and young people there who might have been shocked and offended" stuff is a complete joke. I took my young daughters to a match when they were six and eight and was so disgusted by the language they were hearing that I didn't take them again for five years. It wasn't the players they were hearing! It was probably very much the same types of people that Vernon reacted to today.

I don't agree that many of the players out there today, twits as you call them, purposely gave less than the required effort. Why would they? What would they have to gain from doing so? Even if they aren't Grimsby through and through like us, this is their livlehood at stake. Many are out of contact come the end of the season and will be paying either in the hope of an extension or of attracting other interested clubs come the summer. They all have mortgages etc to pay just like us.

What I actually think,  is that we're seeing a bunch of players who have hit absolutely rock bottom in the confidence stakes and are struggling to dig themselves out of the hole. Confidence is such an underrated element of football and can have a truly devestating effect on a players form and performance, it's very easy to lose and can be incredibly difficult to regain . Every single player will be terrified of being the one to make the mistake that led to a goal for instance and that can play havoc with their mindset.

Now is the time to bring in a leader that has outstanding man management qualities, who can lift the dressing room, offer a fresh approach and new ideas and inject a new impetus into the squad.

We've seen many times in the past at different clubs how a team can be performing consistently bad, a new manager comes in and instantly things start to improve and results get better. These don't instantly become better players, ability wise, but a new manager can often give the squad a confidence boost that returns improved performances and results until new tactics, training methods, gameplan etc have time to sink in.

This is the same (mostly) team/squad remember that won 4 games in a row and went on a decent unbeaten run and were talking of a play off push,  coincidently when confidence was high(er).

Perhaps I'm talking shite but I think the players have enough experience and quality to get out of this mess, provided they have the right manager leading them. IMO that right man, unfortunately,  is not Paul Wilkinson!

He should be sacked not because of the gesture,

BUT

Because he is rubbish at his job along with a few others.

Mills was one who at least tried ,

I did not realise Osborne was even playing until the 2 nd half.

I dare say you need to pay more attention then Pete!

And these young fans would have been completely oblivious to the torrent of foul language, insults and abuse aimed at the players from the 'fans' in the stand would they?

Exactly. This is all so rich. We’ve all been around enough town fans to know they’re are some not so pleasant characters. Yet the moment someone waved their hand in a certain way to someone, everyone starts crying.

“WON’T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!”

I can't fault people for travelling to support gtfc and hat off to everyone who went yesterday to represent Grimsby Town. I just don't understand all of this abuse to players, wait until full time or do it on here. I wasn't their but to abuse players pre match and at 0-0 (from what I have heard) is rediculous and wrong. To be honest, it doesn't surprise me because when I do manage to go I always see atleast a few people smashed out their face talking excrement.. Why waste all that money, I'm surprised they ever remember any of the game?
Yes we need change from top to bottom. So do your protests In the car park before and after the match. Even before kick off in the stand if you really have to. But once those 11 shirts are on the pitch about to kick off show the players, management, opponents what and what owe are and show the passion we can give and want in return from the players.

You really are a complete sharp object.

Sharp he probably is because he is correct, what is worse a hand gesture or the vile language we hear at nearly every game?

As another poster has said I took my twin girls many years ago to their first match v Middlesborough and Clayton Blackmore was left back for them and had been subject to an allegation of rape not long before. Well my two eight year olds came home with a much wider vocabulary and in all honesty were physically scared by our own fans sat in the Upper Findus. Suffice to say 24 years later one of them has never been back to BP.

If I learned anything from that. experience it’s that if you are taking kids to football prepare them for a rude awakening.20 years on with an 8 year old boy he was well briefed what would happen, 3 years later he still attends occasionally but the football on offer which in turn leads to inc, erased levels of abuse does not make it a journey he wants to make too often.

You see son Mr Vernon is trying to help by making a sign that means excitement followed by contentment from frustration,  which he wants those who are frustrated to apply
