That’s right ladies and gentlemen all over social media and being discussed on radio humberside Scott Vernon giving town fans the male masturbator sign at the end of the game and pathetic Kelly also laughing at the sad gesture.

This is becoming a joke please Fenty get rid of these two clowns biggest wage stealers since the days of Adam proudlock and co.

Give them both a two week suspension and bank the wages saved. Pay up their contracts once our position is known.

Macca talking about having to manage his injury does not sound good but credit to him for getting back in there wish some of the others showed that sort of passion.

Don't exaggerate - it's only 13, unless you're including next week against Exeter already?

He didn't even get on the pitch, might have been better if he had, I don't think Matt touched the ball more that 2 or 3 times.

Was he been given shite when he was warming up?

It's not gonna make us any better giving the players shite.

Agreed Mrs D

He must be so disappointed to come back in to the team facing relegation when we were in the top half when he last played

After everything he put in to getting us back in the league to have it dismantled like this must be an absolute wrench for him

I liked his passion when he said he was adamant we won't go down..... if only the 10 others in front of him were capable I might believe him

I think he’s counting the training game against the cones.

The cones won 2-0

Edit :  But we did control the first twenty minutes. until the cones scored against the run of play.  !!

Whatever the rights and wrongs - and two wrongs don't make a right - it's a very worrying sign of how badly our club is broken.

If it's true sack the sharp objects now, although I read town fans started abusing them first, if this is true (I hope not) then I don't blame them for giving the male masturbator sign.

You could say that but look at the ages of the four WBA players who stole a taxi in Barcelona

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Vernon as taken a lot of shite but by alienating himself further will only cause more friction he as let himself and his team down, even more, he gets paid more than most watching him he should remember that. Just do what Macca does roll your sleeves up and fight for the cause.

Exactly Chris

I'm not saying players deserve abuse when warming up but a professional footballer should be the bigger, better man

If he had been a player of any kind, he'd have been on the pitch today scoring goals and not warming a seat on the sub's bench, so he was an easy target for frustrated fans

I don't have anything personally against him but on ability and aptitude alone, he really isn't fit to wear the shirt ( along with most of the squad actually!)

I really doubt Vernon just started to giving the male masturbator sign to our fans.

Surely someone has said something to him first.

Not condoning it but something has obviously triggered that reaction.

They probably have Tommy but he should have turned the other cheek

Whatever might have been said might have stung him, but the way to shut up disgruntled supporters is by doing a good job out on the pitch,  not pouring fuel on the fire

I’m not the one with a problem crying it’s not fair I’m merely stating he’s a professional footballer who shouldn’t be giving fans a male masturbator sign irrespective of fans showing their frustrations , he should be beyond that.

Paul Hurst reacted to the abuse he got in the correct manner.
He did the job he was paid to do before giving it back to the fans.

Vernon and Co take note.

He's also contributed 4 flipping goals in over 50 games, FOUR. If I'd added such a pathetic contribution to my work place, I'd be working hard to rectify it (if I was lucky enough to not be sacked), not call the people who have had to put up with my sub par performances 'male masturbators'.

Ah well, 12 more games and he will be gone, along with most of the other useless fookers. I quite liked Vernon at first; looked an experienced, clever player, but he has 4 goals for us. That's about 25 grand per goal i reckon.

And of those four, three were in games without his goal that we would still have won - the only winning goal he has scored was against Yeovil back in September, so in effect he's contributed just two points in his career here

I'm not bashing him - just pointing out how ineffective he is.

Got to say one of Hurst's mystery signings and given all the others we have sent out on loan to sharpen them up, how did he manage to avoid this??

Really. We'll send him to your workplace on Monday he can slate you all day and let's see if you a professional and role model for your workplace can handle it without a reaction. I'm pleased he did it. Most of our fans are role models to the club. Some are and always have been abhorrent

And throw in the fact that the team hasn't won for fourteen games and been utter garbage, the players should know better to turn the other cheek and improve their own output at their place of work for the customer that's paying their wages. It's more than just one performance for us fans. When players good and bad have played for us and left, they get on with their lives, we are still left with the club until we croak.

It doesn't surprise me that players are acting this way when it's been part of the DNA of the whole club from the very top to the club office and the departed manager who think it's fair game to blame the fans for their failings. It's a stupid mentality to think the best policy when things aren't going too well, the chairman, board, officers of the club, the manager and now the players exacerbate the chasm between themselves and the fans. Yes fans can be arrses when performances and results are bad, but it's the board, manager and players responsibility to improve the entertainment to win the fans over. Blaming the fans is an easy way out and not taking responsibility for their own actions and a lack of ability, mindset or skill to change things around.

This is the worst and longest sustained period of the club's history and fans have been called bullies, vile and now w*nkers and being laughed at. I'm surprised we've got any fans left never mind 800 travelling to Cambridge and venting their understandable frustrations.

If you run the club and don't have the ability to make decisions to win the fans over, you shouldn't be running the club.

If you play for the club and don't have the ability or at least put the effort in wearing the shirt to win the fans over, you shouldn't be playing for the club.

It's as simple as that..

I was in the middle of the stand and I don’t believe there was any abuse aimed at Vernon. Some of the fans who were giving players stick were aiming it at those on the pitch. Seemed unprovoked to me.

I quite often get criticism from my companies paying customers, who doesn’t that work with people?

But if I was to turn round and respond the way one of our players did today I’d be out the door and down the road.

It’s just plain unprofessional.

Vernon will be released at the end of the season anyway. He knows the score hence why he’s let loose. I also got the impression during his warm up, Sam Kelly pointed to the ground a number of times (as if to say relegation). Did anyone else noticed?

Really. We'll send him to your workplace on Monday he can slate you all day and let's see if you a professional and role model for your workplace can handle it without a reaction. I'm pleased he did it. Most of our fans are role models to the club. Some are and always have been abhorrent

He can come to my workplace on the following conditions.

He has to travel for two and a half hours each way.

He has to pay for the privilege of watching me work.

He has no say whatsoever as to wether or not I actually have a job.

I get to work approximately 1/4 of the hours he does.  And on my actual day of work I’m deemed not good enough to do a full days work so someone else takes my place.

The cold store I work for let’s its customers down time and time and time again. Sometimes due to employing poor staff. Sometimes due to the staff not really giving a sh1t

Yup. When he fulfills all of the above he is perfectly welcome to come and give me grief.

Until then, I suggest he shuts the fuk up. Keeps his head down and actually tries to earn the wages I am contributing to.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I was too far away to see what happened but there was a sizeable chunk of the Town support chanting Fenty out etc. from about 10 minutes in when in my opinion they might have been better served getting behind the players at 0-0 with Town more than holding their own. The intensity increased after the first goal went in. It lessened but then started again not unsurprisingly when the two goals went in. By this time the Town subs were warming up in front of the right hand side of the stand and something clearly happened because a prolonged chant of Vernon is a wa***r was clearly audible. Not sure that any player should react but equally unsure that players of the team that we support shouldn't be able to warm up in front of us. Those players weren't in any way responsible for what had gone on on the pitch today. It may be the most obvious sign yet of it being open season on anyone associated with the club. Players warming up represent an easy target but in my view an unfair one. I understand the anger at those on the pitch who broadly speaking got what they deserved at the end..although to a man they came across and applauded loud and long.

The fans were great to start with but got fed up with the lack of effort,

They were singing " you are not fit to wear the shirt "

I did not hear any bodies name been mentioned but there was a few players on the pitch and a few warming up,

It could have been directed at most of them.

The reason why we are in the position we are is because Vernon and Kelly are inept and I hope both the useless oxygen thieves at the end of the season have to get real jobs, the pair of sharp objects.

The way fans have treat Vernon I don't blame him. Respect works two ways people.

Have to agree about the respect, should he respond in such a way ?..probably not...but he is only human after all.

What would you do in Vernon's position then.....Time has finally caught up with you and you realise that you're not good enough for league football anymore.
Do you A. Think with young children and a mortgage I'm going to wing this contract out.
Or
Do you B. Think intercourse my family it's the good of the club that counts I'm going to see Fenty in the morning and ask him to cancel my contract with mutual consent.

Absolutely disgusting from Vernon! The line of work I’m in often means I get a lot of abuse from the people I’m trying to treat. I’ve been punched, kicked, spat at, verbally abused and threatened by the people I’m paid to help. What do I do about it? I remain thoroughly professional as do all my colleagues and continue to do my job. Under no circumstances whatsoever would I do anything like Scott Vernon did today, and if I did I would be dismissed due to gross misconduct. The protective veil that shields footballers is pathetic and he should be treat the same as any other working civilian. He’ll be gone come the summer anyway and I’ll be glad if he never wears our black and white shirt again.

In every job I have had I have given most of the time 100%, and treated customers with respect, even when they didn't deserve it.

Whilst he is under a contract I expect 100% effort and commitment, with his attitude and lack of commitment I don't give a flying fig what happens to him when we go down to non league because that's where we are heading with losers like him and his bad attitude.

Makes a lot of sense this, I originally said I didnt blame him for giving the male masturbator sign to abusive fans and that I'd do exactly the same... but would I do it at my workplace? Absolutely not and in my line of work I can and have been called a lot worse. Well done you've changed my opinion and that doesn't happen much😂 So now sack  the idiot regardless.

How is it harsh, he is a striker who has only scored 4 goals in 50 games earning us something like 2 points, so I agree he is really excrement and lacks commitment.

I bet you were sitting on the edge of your seat with all the excitment Ian,

Get real man we were OK 1st half without looking dangerous,

2nd half was very poor and the amount of fans that paid good money to be there deserved to see at least a bit of effort,

Apart from 2 or 3  players none of the rest deserved any support whatsoever.

What we need is go get new man in soon as possible so he can see how poor the squad is. Hopefully we avoid the drop and he can then have a busy summet building an entirely new squad as no one can do anything with garbage we have now.

I missed the Vernon making male masturbator signs moment as I left as soon as the second goal went in but I did hear 'you're not fit wear the shirt' directed at subs warming up down in the corner area, I though it was a bit harsh and should have been directed at those actually on the pitch. Even Vernon can't intercourse up sitting on the bench - can he?

Some fans have turned on the club after years of being served rubbish, during a rubbish match day experience lorded over by a rubbish non chairman and quite understandably they have had enough.

These are not normal times and from some fans point of view they will no longer play by normal rules.

It is devastating that the complacent board have allowed it to got to this stage, and indeed have helped add fuel to the fire by their arrogance and general mismanagement.

These are very sad times, and it is difficult to see us enjoying better times soon; we need success on the field to give us a bit of breathing space, but the board is the real problem. Lack of leadership in the club is once again letting us down, and it seems no lessons at all were learned from our previous relegation. I just don't understand how somebody could make exactly the same mistakes when he saw how good it could be when we got back into the league. Anybody else would have built on that euphoria, increased his investment to create something, but he has just sat on his hands, and worse made decisions to the detriment of the one thing he has his money invested in. Bizarre.

Anyway back to the present; the only thing that will give us some relief  and get the supporters back on side is a cracking managerial appointment next week, with no cutting of any corners. Proper investment in the summer, and some in Blundell Park and the facilities. If he cannot do that, or wont do that, then he should leave, even if it is just from the day to day running of the club.

Sign of a very badly run club.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

The performances of some of the players today was very poor but equally so was the performance of some of the supporters ( I use the term loosely). The usual obnoxious drunks with their handmade Fenty Out 'banner' were not there to support the players like the majority, from the start they were abusing the players.

IMO what Vernon may of done is irrelevant, I don't blame him for one minute.

If this group of 'supporters' really want to be part of a fan owned club then it will be hilarious.

I honestly would rather have John Fenty than these idiots

Fans, I use the word fans not supporters having a go at subs warming up players gesturing back after 40 years following Town this could be it for me.

Although some people think it wrong to tell unused subs "their not fit to wear the shirt" if these subs had done the business in some of the previous 12 non winning games a) we would not be sliding down the pan hole and b) these players would be in the starting 11.

If we were to report him to the FA there’s a good chance he’d get a match ban so we could at least ensure that he’s not available for selection for a game or two.

Although some people think it wrong to tell unused subs "their not fit to wear the shirt" if these subs had done the business in some of the previous 12 non winning games a) we would not be sliding down the pan hole and b) these players would be in the starting 11.

So we're the 11 on the pitch exempt?

"Grim74" from the sound of things those on the pitch were just as culpable. At the moment picking a starting 11 looks like bingo, pick 11 squad numbers out of a bag, their all basically as as bad as each other.

Why anyone would think there is a remote possibility of Vernon being sacked on the basis of his alleged conduct today is beyond me. After all, those in positions of responsibility of our club have hardly treated us with any great respect this season, have they?

Exactly. If they sack Vernon for gross misconduct, they should have sacked the old grey haired chap at The Fans Forum for telling fans to "Shut up".

As far as I can see, the people who own, run , manage and represent GTFC on the pitch are as incompetent and substandard as each other. All of this debate is just splitting hairs.
Shame on GTFC. They let the supporters and public down time and again.

Why would we want to sack or even fine him. He was just giving as good as he got .

The fans are not the only ones frustrated and disappointed with current results.

Yet another 'mountain out of a mole hill' episode (just like 'bra-gate') Why do we get so wound up and blow things out of proportion?

Incidentally when we tried to leave today (after the second goal went in) we were temporarily prevented from doing so by a police officer while two of his colleagues handcuffed and removed a Town fan from the ground. I don't know what it was all about but I suggested that if the Town fan had been naughty then the best punishment would be to return him to rather than eject him from, the ground.

I was in the middle of the stand and I don’t believe there was any abuse aimed at Vernon. Some of the fans who were giving players stick were aiming it at those on the pitch. Seemed unprovoked to me.

As I was when the Fenty Out mob started having a go at him and chanting he wasn’t fit to wear the shirt. As soon as he started warming up they started on him. That obviously know how to motivate and support people!

Looking dangerous is a subjective judgement at best. We had the majority of possession and if looking dangerous is a criterium then the first time they looked dangerous was when Macca picked the ball out of the net! I don't disagree (too much) with your view about those who played but, and I repeat my point, the "abuse" was aimed at players who weren't in the XI on the pitch.

We did not create anything that made me think we were about to score Ian,

BUT

I do agree with you that the fans should get behind the team and the players should always give 100%

Well the players or most of them on the pitch did not and by the sound of things have not for a while,

The fans nearly 800 of us turned up hoping for a new dawn but all we got was the same old same old,

So the fans take it out on certain players which is not right but understandable.

Why is it acceptable for the fans to hurl dogs abuse at the subs but not for the player to give it back?

Should he have responded? No.
Is it that easy to turn the other cheek? No.

I'm far from Vernon's biggest fan but to mindlessly abuse the lad when he's warming up baffles me. I understand the frustrations in the stands but abusing players achieves absolutely nothing.

I don't blame him for a second for giving it back. Human reaction to give it back, professional footballer or not.

Didn't see the Kelly incident so can't comment.

Football fans are like the school bully, happy to give it out but soon as they get some back run to the headteacher, laughable.

Problem is the 13 game run without a win, frustration and anger is making everyone over react, what do you do when a fellow motorist gestures or gives you abuse? You react with the same and a bit added on, well I do and I expect most others do as well. Same with Vernon.

If they sacked Vernon tomorrow would not bother me however, nor for his gesture just think he is a waste of a wage but whilst he is playing I would try and support him but seem to think I may have called him a few choice names in the past so if he shouted st me in return or called me a male masturbator he may have a decent argument and I would not expect Fenty to sort it out.

Scott Vernon is our best player according to the Bread Winners page. We average 1.8 points when he is playing. That's miles more than anyone else

So he got some excrement from the fans and he was right to turn round to the fans and effectively call them male masturbators?.

Visiting players get lots of abuse, are you saying they have the right to turn round to the home fans and start giving them the male masturbator or intercourse off sign.

Good luck with that.

To be fair visiting players expect to get abuse that does not hurt them, in fact, they thrive on it. However, it would hurt you if your own fans did it or it should do.

Like any other business, a shop, restaurant, a tradesman your customers can give abuse (read some of their reviews) but you do not trade insults with your customers like Basil Faulty. you can always count on some to vent their anger especially against one of the worst performers.

Trouble is unless he is on the pitch he can not do anything about that and if he does get on the pitch things must be really dire but at least he can have a chance to answer his critics in the right way.

Hard as it is he should just remain professional and stay out of it.

Why should visiting players expect to get abuse?

Yes it is part of football and has been for years but players have to rise above it home or visiting.

Once players cross the line and start abusing their own fans then they will likely get abuse back at most games.

Get real!

Fans angry and abusing players. Players giving fans offensive hand signals. Players fighting among themselves on the pitch and in training. Fans arguing and almost coming to blows with each other. Chants against the board members.

All signs of a club in crisis and something we've all seen before, more than once. Only an upturn on the pitch will put a stop to it. It's the same at all clubs, but we seem to have had more than our fair share in recent years.

Unless the club nip this in the bud with a good appointment and some direction on the pitch, it will keep rumbling away, and the longer it rumbles, the more chance of it blowing up completely.

Going back to the days of Steve Claridge when he came to Town with Millwall abuse from the Town fans only had the effect of making him play better and, (my memory might be playing tricks now) he always seemed to score.
Perhaps you should stop trying to defend the indefensible and move on?

What if I told you that a person of ethnic origin never slagged off Vernon but was directly in front of Vernon and felt like the male masturbator sign was directed at him.

Going back to the days of Steve Claridge when he came to Town with Millwall abuse from the Town fans only had the effect of making him play better and, (my memory might be playing tricks now) he always seemed to score.
Perhaps you should stop trying to defend the indefensible and move on?

Well if it's a corner.  You're  first on the team sheet

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Don’t forget if your defending a corner you’ll do it with the other 10 players!

The main reason I am so concerned for our future is that where we are now has come about entirely as a result of decisions made by those self same people who are tasked with making the next  appointment......heaven help us

Town fans managed to get more than a few players to react and receive red cards most enjoyable was David Speedie when he got the treatment from the Pontoon.Sent off to the delight of a baying Pontoon chanting David Speedie sh1ts his underpants

That was a great night I remember Speedie having a good crack with the fans despite the abuse he was getting, Vernon take note.
