We always hear how difficult it is to attract players here due to location so how many players in our current squad actually live here ?

Is there a case for us having our training ground in the Sheffield area so many don't have to relocate or have a long commute every day to Cheapside.

They just commute here on match days.........radical idea I know but it could attract better players

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

It would take part of the community aspect of the club away but there is a certain logic to it

Don't offer the buggers a contract if they insist on living away - perhaps if they moved to the area they might have more connection with and/ pride in the club and town.

Was it Buckley that insisted players moved to the area? I suppose easier if longer contracts were given out though.

Loads of people commute from Grimsby to Hull, Doncaster, Lincoln and Sheffield everyday and manage just fine. Players don't work the hours most people do and with an early start and early finish there is plenty of time to recover or do what they want with most of the afternoon free.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Yep. My other half commuted from Mablethorpe to GY and back, Monday to Friday for over three years. Did an 8 hour working day as well. Bloody terrible drive in the winter.

Up the motorway from Donny or Sheffield for three hours training is a doddle compared to that.

I was more thinking we could attract players from the Manchester.......Midlands area without them having to relocate.

A1031 is a horrible road and lights up the engine driving monitor on my dashboard like a Christmas tree, even going 20 mph lower than the limit for that road doesn't make a difference to that bloody monitor thing.

I'm not saying your idea is without merit. Can't see it working personally as it would make everything too disjointed. I'm all for attracting young eager players, but unfortunately, GY and Clee hasn't a lot to offer young men. They are more likely to be attracted to clubs around London, Manchester and Leeds etc. So, if those players do come here, they are likely to not want to live here, rather commute in from bigger urban areas. The older players with families are more likely to move to the area though, and they would have to travel the other way.

To be honest I find that a feeble excuse there are some lovely areas just outside Grimsby within a 15-mile radius. Laceby,Great Coates, marshchapel, Healing. ect

Gowling rented a place in Caistor.

Lovely places yes, but what attraction is lovely to mid 20's males? The majority are not interested in the quiet village life.

Said something similar to someone on here the other week. Moving about with the forces I lived in rural Oxfordshire, Norfolk and Shropshire. All lovely places looking back but at the time all I was bothered about was how much a pint was and how quickly I could get back to civilisation (King’s Lynn and Wolverhampton excepted).

Isn't his other half local though?

I'm sure when he signed for us I read it somewhere that she came from the GY area so he was probably told where he'd be living

What rubbish most are stuck on their X boxes/play stations. Anyway, plenty of nightclubs in Cleethorpes yeah it comes with risks but so does any town/city in the uk.

What more does a mid 20 male need?

I'm in my 50's and find GY/Clee a bit boring, entertainment wise. Spend a lot of time in Sheffield, York and Leeds myself.

Plenty being maybe 3 realistically. Unless you want to count every dive in town full of local idiots and contractors. If you think Cleethorpes is an attractive prospect except for 1 month of summer then I'd really have to question if you've lived anywhere else in your life that isn't a smaller, crappier town than here. Compared to living in or in the suburbs of a city it's really dull when you look at things to do and quality of nightlife. Mid 20's don't really have much to do beyond getting hammered so whatever tacky nightclub they choose seems less tacky. No decent live music venues that pull in decent bands, no good nightclubs with attractive events, pubs are very tacky and very much catered to being "me local".

Oh look. Kris having a pop at anything local.

How is Scunny nowadays Kris ?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
