Super Clive.

We desperately need goals and he definitely knew where the net was.

One of Groves or Cunnington for me.  Probably Groves for his goals and the fact that Shaun wouldn't stay on the pitch that often these days!!!

If it was a keeper It'd be Batch.
Defender is hard Kev Moore or Futcher. It'll be Kev for his goals.
Midfield mmmm good few to choose from Waters, Groves but it has to be Dave "Mr Grimsby Town" Boylen.
We've had some good forwards Tony Rees a clever player, Trevor Whymark Matt Tees Clive, Brace, but the best by far Kevin Drinkall.
So do I choose one, it's between Dave Boylen, Kev Moore  and Kevin Drinkall. No doubt Kevin Drinkall, to me the best player to pull a Town shirt on, he was that good. Keegan Vs Drinkall. Drinkall won ok 2-2.
I have been privileged to see some great teams and great players.
This is my opinion and I respect all the other opinions on this-memories eh?

Groves would hold the midfield together and would probably bag half a dozen goals before the end of the season to boot!

He scored most of his goals for us 2 divisions higher than we currently play and would have been a fantastic midfielder at this level in his prime.

Ivano for me.

Quite frankly the best player I have ever seen in a Town shirt. (But not my favourite)

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Probably Andy Todd. Made it very hard for other teams to attack and could create counter attacks. We need somebody with that kind of vision and talent right now.

Bobby Cumming..He wouldn't last the 90 minutes with his 'combative' style but it'd show those Town fans unlucky enough not to have seen him play why he is so revered. No-one messed with Bobby - or with Town - when he was playing - and he had bags of skill too. All time favourite GTFC player, no contest!

Sorry to be boring, but it'd be Groves. Led by example. Kept himself fit. Pick a nifty pass. Scored goals.

The link up play between Rees and big keith, the finishing of super Clive, the wing play of Gilbert or Donovan (Kevin), the nouse of sir futch and birtles, an engine room that consisted of a groves cunnington or cockerill, the flair of a bonetti and the management skills of.........well it'd have to be Buckley the original for me

How we would dream of a dressing room with such quality

Has to be either Groves as a goalscoring midfielder who could defend and lead too or super Clive for the goals.  Will choose Grovesy as clive more unlucky with injuries

Like the Pouton idea except he would.miss half the remaining games through suspension.

Am gonna be first to mention Gary Croft as he would sort the current left back issue out instantly

From the Town teams I grew up watching, I'd say either Groves, Super Clive or Kev Donovan. To close to call for me.... Can I be greedy and have them all?

From the Town teams I grew up watching, I'd say either Groves, Super Clive or Kev Donovan. To close to call for me.... Can I be greedy and have them all?

I wish I could grant you that wish we would still then make the Play Offs.

Bobby C
Would get this lot in line and lead by example.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Surprisingly only one other mention but I'd go for John Cockerill as well - he'd put some old fashioned backbone into the side, he's Grimsby through and through and he always looked like he'd rather die than roll over. Will we ever see the like again?

Alas, I think the days of the scything sliding tackles are over. The likes of Cockerill and Cunnington would be sent off twice a game in the modern era, though neither was anything like a dirty player and both invariably won the ball when they tackled.

Agreed.

But that second goal against Exeter would never have stood today and probably shouldn't have back then

Bobby C, Cunnington, Cockers I would bring any of them back in a heartbeat, all heroes of mine and great whole hearted players, don't think they'd last 5 minutes on the pitch now the games gone all soft, but have great memories watching these ☺️

Mendonca because we need a scorer. Groves because he would bring confidence to those around him. Plug because he always seemed to embody the spirit of the club and he was (fairly) local.
