07 February 2018 11:05Post ID: #777853 - in reply to #777197 79imp 93 Derek Bell 5001001001001002525 Posts: 969 Agree with all the sentiments on here... a total non-starter. I would also argue that Barnsley are no bigger a club than we are - or at least becoming. DC/NC would be crackers to go there - and they're not crackers so they won't! The only time I would worry is if a Championship club with real pedigree came in for them - i.e. someone like Forest, Ipswich or Norwich. And obviously, if a PL team came calling, that would also be a definite head-turner. However, we all know that the Prem teams much prefer a Carlos Kickaball-type than a homegrown manager, so I can't see that happening unless/until we reach the Championship. If memory serves, the Cowleys have a contract until 2021 don't they? Given the type of blokes they are, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them see that out... especially when you consider the sort of comments Danny has made recently about wanting to finish what they've started. if you include the likes of Waddington Hykenham etc the population of Lincoln can be boosted to about 132,000. The Metropolitan area of Barnsley is about 232,000.
Then we get on to footballing pedigree......................................

Let them enjoy their moment in the spotlight. After all, most have only been supporting them for about a year and are still learning about other teams etc.

"The difference between Barnsley and Lincoln is Barnsley are already at the end of their journey, they have Max'd out. They play in a right sized football ground(never need bigger than 23,000), in a division they just about belong in. There's loads to do at Lincoln yet." I'm assuming he believes that Lincoln could draw more than 23,000 fans if they got in the Championship

If I was the Cowleys, I don't think I'd be looking at moving up to Barnsley myself. Barnsley are certainly a sunstantially bigger club than Lincoln, but they ought to be backing themselves to stay and try and get the Gimps promoted this season (they should have one of the biggest budgets in the division which is easiest to win promotion from). A couple of consecutive promotions under the belt and then you're looking at being potential candidates for jobs at clubs another step up in size from Barnsley such as one of the Sheffield clubs, Birmingham, Wolves even Leeds.
I said the same when Bogle left last season - if he'd stayed with us and scored another dozen goals or so helping us towards a play-off spot, he'd have been better set for finding a better Championship club, one not struggling at the time.
I suppose it's all about how far you are willing to go to back yourself as a manager/player.

It's just message board nonsense, not any more deluded than some of the stuff people say on here from time to time. We have people who think we are a big club and have money.

Imagine, I will not hear the end of it tonight down the pub, one thing to add to the mix is that whilst our season ticket sales will most likely plummet next season I think Lincoln could possibly sell out! Unbelievable but loads of people moaning as they struggle to get tickets and I expect a number of these will get season ticket next season. If they go up as well..... god will need to consider moving. Only consolation at present is my wife is from Barnet and at least they are below us.

Must be nice to have a manager capable of getting a job in the Championship - weren't we in for the Cowleys at one point?

Bless them, heard all the same guff from the Scunts when Madkins was in charge and as soon as he went they dropped like a stone out of the Championship, and as soon as their chairman is done throwing in over £350K a season they'll be back to scrapping around league 2 like us. Same for Lincoln and God help them both if they ever get the hand we've been dealt with for the last decade.

Scunthorpe away in the distance, Lincoln soon to follow. Some of you can only think to try to ridicule (and fail miserably). So from me, congratulations to both, it’s nice to see unfashionable clubs performing well above expectations. That was us once, can anyone remember?

Lincoln have a board that know what they are doing and have made sound pragmatic decisions. We have a board that has used revenue from transfers that should be used to up-value the squad to cover financially for bad decisions made.

Lincoln came perilously close to it. Didn't Fenty offer them advice when they were fighting relegation to the Conference?

To be honest, we would all love to be in Lincolns position right now exiting times, Great management team, good relations on and off the pitch, money in the bank crowds into double figures.
When was the last time we had that combination?
Probably 98.
