I have a black + white border collie and multi coloured cat,

They are the best of friends and the dog always tells me when the cat wants to come in or out.

She can do this when the cat is sat outside the back door and we are in the front room.

I ask her how she knows but she never tells me their secret.

Wife and kids. Though I'm not sure who's in charge sometimes. Probably like you and your cat Pete.

Oh, and two gerbils. I wanted to call them O'Connor and Monty but the kids got to pick the names.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

A boxer that still hasn't worked out what to do when it catches a cat 🙄

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Promise a man someone else's fish and he votes Labour.

My first Border Collie was getting on a bit when we got the cat,

She used to ignore her but the kitten used to hide behind flower pots in the garden and pounce on the dog.

When we lost the dog because of cancer we got this one,

Now the cat is getting on a bit and when the puppy saw her she used to hide and then pounce on the cat.

Now they are both mature they just eat each others dinners and sleep together,

Currently none, but we used to have a cat and a dog and as with Pete's two, they got on fine together but it was always the cat in charge.

The cat was all black and our dog was sandy coloured a cross between a border collie and a whippet. She just looked a bit like a fat whippet but there wasn't an ounce of fat on her.

We had a bed each for them and they often used to sleep together, but that was only if the dog got in the bed first, and the cat would then snuggle up with her, but often we'd come downstairs to find the cat sprawled out in the dogs bed and the dog cramped up in the cat's bed.

Both lived til a good age. The dog was 17 when we had to have her put down and the cat was 19 when he died.

Springer/Cocker cross “Sprocker” Spaniel. Bred from two gundogs and all of her brothers and sisters went to be gun or other working dogs. She’s just under 18 months old is absolutely batshit crazy. We can go for two hour walks and she’ll still need to run it off in the garden.

I know what you mean LH,

I can not walk far at the moment so she jumps in the car with me to a field up the road,

I then throw the ball until she is tired or my arm gives way,

She then crawls back into the car and we return home,

Where she tells me she is ready to go again,

My little mate Clive is a cat, he's all black and he loves killing birds and mice. He's a predator like his namesake.

We have a brown/white English Springer Spaniel, and my word they are wonderfully crazy companions. I had to recuse him from drowning in a river a few years ago, had to jump 2.5 metres into a cold river, story for another time I guess. I'd recommend one

Springers spaniels are mental. I'm a Border Collie man myself, though we haven't got one at the moment. Had to have the last two put to sleep for different reasons, both at a young age and it has knocked me back a bit. Will maybe get another at some point, though it doesn't feel like the right time yet. T'other half would get one tomorrow if i agreed.

We don’t have pets anymore, when our rabbit died a few years back it really affected our children due to them being so close to it, I was brought up around dogs when I was a child we had an Alsatian and then a Corgi, the Corgi ended up biting me and my dad sold it haha

I know how you feel Ginny, when we had to put out first Border Collie down I was adamant I did not want to go through that pain again,

After about 4 months the family were fed up of me being miserable all the time they went out and bought me another one without me knowing,

When the wife, daughter and granddaughter found a puppy they came back with two,

I got one and the granddaughter kept the other ,

They get on fine when she brings him round but our cat does not like him and shoots off only coming back when he has gone home.

I did not want one at the time but I am pleased she is here she is my best friend.

2 Bengal cats.

They are mental. Proper mental.

We feed them a raw only diet with raw turkey, day old chicks, mice and sometimes bits of heart.

We had a cat and a dog ( Labrador ) when I was a kid Pete and it was exactly the same.... I've a feeling there is a 6th sense that animals have because they seemed to communicate on a level that only they understood that passed our family by. So much for the fighting like cat and dog ( there were a few spats of course ) but generally they got on like great guns together

Now living on my own I've got two cats.... they were brought in to the household by my soon to be ex-wife but when she left me, she left them too.

Guess they're company of sorts, when they want food especially, but a dog would be a better option for me at some stage. Maybe when I get to retire I'll get one both for the company and the exercise
