Clearly not rated by the management so not a big surprise. We may never know if he was any good or not. I must of only watched him a couple of times.

I wish him well .......suspect he will end up back in the National League or below.

That must be all of Bignot's signings gone now. It's like he never existed.

Most likely, my understanding is that they wanted Hall-Johnson back on loan but they couldn't afford it.

People saying he had 'potential' and 'never got the chance'.... Perhaps these statements are true, however if he was under-performing in training and not putting the work in then I can see why he never got his chance. He went on loan to Solihull to get games & gain some much needed match fitness and performed very poorly, why do so many think he would have been our saviour?

Hooper has played like he cannot be arsed when brought on and we were warned of this by Port Vale fans but he is still here.

One can guess that he wasn’t pulling up any trees seen as he’s never got near Slade’s squad, and he couldn’t get in the team when he was fit under Bignot either.

Fair enough he wasn’t given a chance but there’s a serious threat of relegation and It doesn’t seem to be the right time to give him a chance now!

Harsh but I would be surprised to see him in LG 2 again.

Jeez we have wasted a lot of money this season losing count now on who is still here.

That's Osborne.Clements, Tombola,Jones,Asante, gone. Some decent players there whilst we keep the likes of Woolford, Hooper and Vernon.

Slade must see something we can't because I think we have thrown away the wrong players.

Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that striker, Akwasi Asante has left the club by mutual consent to move onto another club with immediate effect

It would be interesting to hear his side of the story for balance.

Is this the first time a director has driven a player out of the club?

No suprise...was clear he would never play for us again when Slade basically dismissed the subject when asked how he was doing by JT a few weeks ago....will probably never know for sure but for JF to discuss him as he did in the Fenty Tapes ...added to the total disregard of Slade  gives some indication that the players attitude was lacking somewhat.

I think it's a little unfair to lump Vernon in with Hooper and Woolford.  He always gives 100%, and still useful when "seeing a game out".  Unfortunately, I accept we haven't been in that position for some time

Just to put a few things straight about akwasi.
He only trained with the 1st team squad once. He suprised management how fit and good he was. He was then told to train with the youth.
This was not about akwasi ability, he was a Bignot player on relative high wages together with the othet 3 that have gone. All four had to go. No attempt made to stop them including osborne.
Regards Solihull. When akwasi went there it was to get match fitness. He was still recovering from a bruised bone on his right foot.look it up it can take time to heel but he was prepared to have steroid injections to get through pain.
Richard money loaned him and paid all of his wages. Akwasi was getting fitter until money walked out and Mark Yates took over. Similar scenario to grimsby. Akwasi was on loan at a team that the new manager wanted his own players.
Akwasi  tried to cancel the loan but grimsby was not allowing it they were saving money. He stayed till the end which was a waste of time. My believe was that they thought solihull was going to keep him.
Akwasi pushed for the loan to solihull because of the physio facilities were far better. His intention was to come back to grimsby and fight for a place. That was never going to happen.
His time at grimsby he looks upon as a positive experience. He had 6 months left of a contract which meant he could have sat in the stands and collect his wages.
That's not for akwasi. He has agreed a severance and has signed for a club in the Midlands who came in for him last week. They have matched his financial package but more importantly he will be given the chance to play. He still has ambitions..
Regarding the rumours about him not pulling his weight in training just a smoke screen. Anyway all has been sorted.
There could have been a lot more to say but have agreed to keep shim. All the best for the future you fans deserve it.

It's not uncommon these days to have a gagging order built into a severance package.

you have always championed his cause.....as i said earlier JF's choice of words caught on tape referred to him needing to get his boots on and that he was a fking @rsehole.....i genuinely dont think those words would have been used if all was as you describe above. Only 2 or 3 people know the actual truth....the rest of us will be left in the dark just as we normally are and will have to decide for ourselves.
Having seen him against us when we played Solihull in the cup a couple of seasons ago he looked a right handful and equally if not more impressive than Bogle...never saw him produce that in a Town shirt though.

Are you able to comment on why JF might have called him what he did? Seems very much an extreme response to me.....

IMO if it was down to budget and choosing who to keep..

J Osborne + Asante + Jones + Clements > Hooper + Kelly + Berrett + Vernon + Cardwell + Woolford + McAllister

A real shame..

you have always championed his cause.....as i said earlier JF's choice of words caught on tape referred to him needing to get his boots on and that he was a fking @rsehole.....i genuinely dont think those words would have been used if all was as you describe above.
One that got away ?  His time to prove it now.

The comment from JF you take interpret that it meant he needs to get his boots on for training, not the other interpretation  that he needs to get his boots on and go. Don't forget he needed to get him off the wage bill. What I am saying you can interpret what JF said another way.
What gets me ranting and defending akwasi is the blatant lies that comes out of Grimsby fc aimed at the lad, some we ignore. He  is as fit as he has ever been in his career.

The sad fact is Grimsby have no money to invest. Can you sustain being a 2nd div team next year. It is going to be hard.
I am close to akwasi I have knowledge of what goes on at clubs. What has happened with akwasi is nothing different that happens at other clubs. You put it down to experience and move on, but learn from your experiences.
The other Bignot players went through similar experiences but that is for them to tell you.
I have given an honest insight into some of akwasi experiences. We now move on and wish you all the best.

Don't know the ins and outs but he was scoring regularly in the league below ours when we signed him, for a non too glamorous team. That was a year ago. How many of our current strikers have scored goals as regularly as him at a decent standard in the recent past? Can't think of one.

Hooper got 10 in 50 games for Port Vale, and 0 in 10 on loan to Northampton, but he can't get near our squad. I bet there isn't another striker in our squad who has scored more than a handful in the last 2 or 3 seasons. It's obvious where our problems lie and maybe Asante could have helped in that regard. I expect he will go somewhere else and start banging goals in.

i took the JF conversation to indicate  he felt Asante wasnt training or trying or needed to pull his finger out in someway...hence then calling him what he did...not defending that in anyway by way .

As i said, i will never know as i know neither party personally to form a trusted opinion.

Most of us have enough masochistic intrigue to follow his short term career from here so one way or another we will keep an eye on him.

Not disputing whether he was any good. I'm questioning what evidence there was about his 'attitude'. All we've got his Fenty's throwaway remark when he didn't think many were listening. And to be honest, I wouldn't place much store on what he said.

And half the players Slade signed himself never got near the squad.

Don't think there was long when he was fit during Bignot's tenure.

I'm beginning to think you are one of the JF squad as you always seem to come down on the club's side.

Your comment is basically silly as regards a serious threat of relegation so it isn't the right time to play him, when we aren't scoring goals and now Slade is relying on loanees who are not that prolific.

It seems to me that JF and RS would rather see us relegated than play one of Bignot's signings.

As regards to not seeing him in LG2 again, there are plenty of Slade's signings that shouldn't be playing in LG2.

I get the impression with most of the players leaving, that it is as much about budget as playing ability. Fair enough, the squad was/still is too big, but to my mind, on the outside looking in, the players released are the better ones we had. I also think letting Jones go was wrong. Again, we got a fee, so finance will be a factor, but couldn't we have kept him until the end of the season at least?

Now there may be other factors involved that we don't know about- fitness, attitude, fitting in with the group, whatever, but it's easier to ship out players others want, then justify it some way, than it is to offload the makeweights. Some had to go for sure, but the ones we should have got rid of, no-one else wanted.

I have been, and remain baffled by, our transfer dealings. The only thing that makes sense, is too big a squad with falling gates meant the budget had to be trimmed somehow, and selling off the family silver was the solution. I've no doubt that the players released/sold/transferred would make our side better. I remain to be convinced that we are a better side than we were when Slade took over, or better than we were before the window opened.

I haven't checked but is our squad not bigger with the 7 loanees.

One of which I understand is not likely to play again because Slade screwed up.

I'll probally be in the minority here, but I'm glad he's gone. I'm just going by the home games, but since that penalty miss against Crawley, he's been practically useless, never been the same player again. Makes you wonder if he was tapped up, or his agent gave him knowledge making him lose interest.  No doubt he's got ability, wouldn't be surprised if he pushes on and moves up another tier.

I've no idea to be honest. Players are coming into and out of the squad at an alarming rate, and i don't know who is footing the bill for the loanees, they may well be subsidised.

What i do know is that when you have a team that chop and change constantly, as we are doing, it's usually a sign of a club in trouble. Most promoted sides, just continue on with building for the next level by adding a few better players and slowly phasing out the less able ones. We get back in the league, have 3 managers and a caretaker in less than two seasons, and more players than we can count coming and going. We can't do anything normally. We seem to be in a constant state of building for something in the future. A future point that never arrives.

Yeah, fair point, but that's where good management should come into play. He was clearly our best player; wouldn't have gone to the top end of league 1 otherwise.

Maybe in time, the players we have now will come good and it won't matter, but he's still our top scorer, without playing at all for weeks and without playing to his full potential for months. Just hope the ones we have now make it irrelevant, but it's not looking good is it?

Don't shoot the messenger but I heard a whisper on Saturday that keeper Jake Keen is not likely to play again.

Nothing to do with injury I understand but it did seem strange dropping him after the Colchester game when he really didn't do anything wrong.

He was a wild card signing and a lot of fans myself included where excited at the prospect of another Bogle type forward. The fleeting glimpse I had of him when he scored he looked like Bogle a right handful and I have yet to think that of Hooper,Vernon,Cardwell for a start. From what grimreaper says and from the departures we have seen it looks like Bignot got players in on big money and the board having sanctioned this then decided it wasn`t for them and to cut their losses? The squad was massive after Bignot left it`s still massive under Slade and whilst the wage bill may have come down a tad so as the quality of the squad. We need numbers to be low 20s with a few loaness and most of that 20 needs to be quality. This Summer will see another massive clearout and influx and for us the fans after seeing Hurst build a team we could identify with it`s very distressing but it must happen.

I thought it might be something to do with the 27 loanees, but the first game he missed only had 4. What on earth has gone on (if he's not injured)?

Regarding Asante, I've for no idea about what has gone on, but I do seem recall that the Solihull fans didn't seem overly bothered when he signed for us and he wasn't starting games then either - they were more upset about the loss of Osborne.

Whether they weren't that bothered because his fitness wasn't right at the time or not, I don't know, but you'd normally be more upset about the loss of your top scorer.

Well if Slade does not know how many loan players we have how are we to know ?

I think Slade transfer dealing theory is if you sign loads of players one or two of them will come good.

What a mess. The "board" should hang their heads in shame having presided over this shambles. Is there any care taken regarding any aspect of the club?

How can we have gone through so many players in such short a time and yet have a team half full of untried (in the main) loanees?

Better players shipped out, dross signed and retained on 2 year deals amid fan unrest, falling attendances, no new stadium news (of course) and a relegation battle which will come right to the fore if results this weekend go against us.

They seem to be following a manual of how to destroy a football club in easy stages.

All we can do now is hope we manage to get a result or two to keep us from being in real trouble.

Failure to pick up 3 points and we could be in a real mess come Cambridge away next week because it is a full fixture list on Tuesday with the exception of the Morecambe game we brought forward.

Ah, the "their side and our side"  mentality!.
Easy to see then who's side you are on.

I can't see Clifton being here at the end of the season, through his choice mind, and not Sladeballs.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Don't understand why Clifton can't get anywhere near the team. When Slade did that presentation he was right up the top as fittest lad in the squad.

So how does Woolford get a game, never looks the fittest or strongest.

Think Woolford had one of, if not the, highest distances covered during games around that time.

Running across the pitch to take corners from the right hand side and then back again I would've thought.

He hardly looks a lightweight does he. Definitely a comparable size to any of our midfielders.

It doesn't matter how much distance you cover if you're not getting the ball or influencing the game.

If it did, Mo Farah would have won a hundred caps for England!

Obviously I agree with that point Maringer, but that logic applied to our current situation suggests that  the positive influence our current Midfielders are having on performances is keeping him out of the 18.

Tamworth in Conference North have matched what he was on at Town as a high earner???

Doesnt ring true to me tbh

Yeah, I’m either Fenty’s best mate OR I just don’t think there’s much evidence to suggest Asante is good enough for us. Who has he signed for again? Tamworth??

Personally I would take a player with Jackson’s pedigree or Wilks’ potential over Asante right now. That is just my opinion, I hope I am allowed that.

Happy to be proved wrong when Asante fires a league two team to promotion in a few years.

I don't think for a minute that Tamworth have got anywhere near matching what he was on at Town but after Fenty revealed his true thoughts last Saturday and Slade's blatantly obvious dislike of the lad, I suspect he would have gone absolutely anywhere for peanuts just to get away from GTFC.

Fenty's comment last week probably decided him not to sit in the stand picking up his wages until the end of his contract which in fairness he could have done. Back in the West Mids too.
