This set of players have not yet (and are unlikely to) seen the
magnificent Town fans at their best.

Well let’s show them on March 24th.

We have had haddocks at Wimbledon.  17000 at Liverpool.
Wigs, inflatables, bands the fookin lot.

I have already saved money from not going to BP and will be using it to have a great time that weekend.

I don’t care what results happen between now and then. I am going loud and proud.  Let’s show the rest of the footballing world that our club may be on its @rse but WE are not.

Let’s make it a mini Wembley. Flags, scarves the lot. Party time win or get absolutely stuffed. I don’t care. If by then there are players we want to keep let’s show them what can happen.

Can this be another one where just one mans idea takes off big time and once again gets the attention and respect of the worlds press.

Workers book the day off. Marrieds get that day pass signed off.

Start saving now and I’ll see you there.

Up the fking Mariners. Grimsby till I die.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I am sure that the Coventry fans will join in the booing of Russell Slade in fact it could be one of the biggest noises against a manager for a long time

We took 12,000 in a 38,000 crowd in the cup once,

How both of us have gone down since then,

It was more like 15, to 17,000 as we had fans in all stands,

So 3,000 of us and 10,000 of them would show that the fans are better than the boards that run them.

Actually the Ricoh is a really good shout by Civvy.  It’ll show Fenty what an underfunded club in a white elephant looks like.

Unfortunately I already have alternative arrangement for this weekend, so won't be there.

To be honest I reckon this season will be my worst attendance at away games for as long as I can remember. I've only done 1 away game this season so far, whereas I usually do at least a dozen.

Last year away at Cambridge l arranged the Red Lion Histon as a pre - match venue with a proportion of takings
going to the Trust, which I think helped make it a good day (the result helped )
I am trying to organise something for this year. Naturally people ask me about numbers. In better times I could make an “educated guess”, at the moment it’s difficult.
The start of this thread spoke about making Coventry a day where the B&W Army makes a show of force - l think that
would be great, a lot of new players need to see what they have really signed up for.
What ever happens I will talk to the Trust and post here as soon as l can, to tell people what l can sort for the Cambridge game 17th February. I realise Coventry is the bigger game and many people would want to tick that ground off as “one they hadn’t done”.
I would love a run of wins were people wanted to go to all the games as part of a reinvigorated B&W Army, however...
............!!!!!
Overall it would be great to have a proper awayday WITH THE DRUMMER (where has he been lately ? ) wherever
it is, after all WE need a few points and such days must lift the players - especially the new ones who’ve not witnessed it yet.

Not a specific reason as such.  I am just thinking of some kind of a positive protest.  My aim would be to get more Town fans there (3000+) than for a home game.  Just to prove a point.  Cov would be able to sell us that many and more if required.

I see it as twofold.  1, it would show this squad what we can be like on a really good day.  2, if we somehow took a ridiculous amount and it got in the press, it could show any potential investors that the fanbase is there if marketed correctly.

An added bonus has been pointed out to me.  Coventry fans would be more than happy to join us in proclaiming to Russel Slade just how much he is appreciated in the footballing world !!!

It's a win win in my eyes.

We haven't been there before.

Wasn't the last time we played Coventry away the year we last got relegated from the championship? (One year after we beat them at Highfield Road to get Strachan the sack - which was only 2001).

Ricoh only opened in 2005.

We have been there before. The Strachan sacking was at the Ricoh mate when Jevo scored 1-0. We also played there the season after and lost 2-3 if my memory serves me correctly. I may be going senile in my middle age but believe me i was there and ive never been to Highfield Road. Last time we played at Highfield Road in the League Cup we lost 3-1, Tony Rees was sent off and i just missed out, in 89-90, and started supporting in the 90-91 season.

By 2005 when it opened Town were just starting their second season of Slade's first term. We havent played Coventry in any competition since then until this season.

Yep, you're right. It was the one we conceded at BP that cost us, despite us absolutely battering them. Was one of the best performances I've ever seen by us at home.

Was a bit sceptical at first Civvy, but reading your rationale it's a great idea. Cos is also pretty central so not too bad a journey for most exiles either.

Most definitely was not. I've never been to the Ricoh but I was there at Highfield Rd when Jevvo got Strachan the sack.

You are correct and lobsterpot is wrong.

The 1-0 win and 3-2 loss were both at Highfield Road as I was there for both (as well as the League Cup game) and I've never been to the Ricoh Arena.

We've definitely never played at The Ricoh before. It didn't open until 2005 and the last time we played them away was in 2002.

The Ricoh is a really smart ground, shame it's absolutely miles away from the city centre.

Very strange. I didn't go to that game so I'm not speaking from personal memory but that game was on the 8th of September 2001.

This is an extract from the Ricoh Arena's Wiki page, which I realise is not always the most reliable source of information but should really be on this.

Quoted Text
Originally built as a replacement for Coventry City's Highfield Road ground, the stadium was initially operated by Arena Coventry Limited (ACL), with Coventry City as tenants. ACL was owned jointly by Coventry City Council and the Higgs Charity. The stadium hosted its first football match in August 2005. The official opening was performed by Dame Kelly Holmes and sports minister Richard Caborn on 24 February 2007, by which time the arena had already hosted a sell-out England U21 football match against Germany as well as a full season of Coventry City matches.

Curioser and curioser. I've just dug my copy of the ptogramme out and although there is no picture of the ground one of the pages is called "Around Highfield Road" consisting of up to date news. Is it possible that Ricoh sponsored Highfield Road before the new stadium was built?

The Sky report links to the current stadium rather than where the game took place: (http://www.skysports.com/football/arsenal-vs-grimsby/23229)

(Burnett in goal?!)

The game was 100% at Highfield Road. Remember it well.

Think that screenshot from Sky you've put up just defaults to "Ricoh Arena" as that's their ground on their database. If you seach Arsenal v Tottenham 1998 it reckons it was played at the Emirates Stadium.

That's clearly an unreliable source. It has Butterfield and Bothroyd in goal. Our keeper was Coyne and I'm pretty sure theirs was that lad who later played in goal for Liverpool when we beat them.

The line-ups are correct. They're just not in any order. Their keeper was Magnus Hedman.

The best way to settle the argument is to turn up on 24th March.
Then see if you remember it. Also bring your mates. This thread is about massive support.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Hopefully not KM.  It would be great to roll back the years and take a massive away support to Coventry. But without the ‘fun and games’ that usually ensued there.

I would love for us to take 3000 + and just party like it’s a cup
final.  A positive protest.  No negativity at any part of the day regardless of the score.

In the words of Kevin Keegan. ‘I would love it, absolutely love it’

UTM.

Well i'll be there Civvy. I apologise mate as all the lads today said it was Highfield Road. I think back in the day when i seen it on tv it was all standing then when i went it was all seater and like a new stadium so ive presumed it was the ricoh. And to think all the times ive filled out them how many grounds have you been to and been robbing myself this whole time

I wonder what the biggest away following is it at Cov this Season I would think Lincoln or Notts County  be nice if we could top them but anything over 2k will be a massive ask?

But it’s definitely achievable.

I would like to see it as a form of positive protest.

As I said originally. It would be great for the players and the fans as well to see a packed away end. All positive attitude, win, lose, or draw. Those of us that have stayed away from BP have saved a few quid. What better way to spend it than on an awesome away day. Show JF what he’s missing at BP.  Show the players what can happen (especially IF we are trying to persuade any of them to stay). But also to show any potential investors that we are out there, we just need the right message.
Also geographically accessible for exiles.

I’ll be there loud and proud.  UTFM.

Si, this is a great idea, and the best possible way to hold a protest. A bit like a Jim Bowen moment for Fenty 'look at what you could have won'.
This needs to picked up by the media and make something of it. All the stay away fans, turn up for this one game and show the board just what can be achieved if they get their heads out of their arses. #alltownarewe #allfanstogether #UTM

Surely that must have been at Blundell Park as the boos that sounded at the end of the game only happen at BP as according to some on here only GTFC fans react like that.

Despite us currently sinking like a stone I’m still strangely enough looking forward to this one!! Desperately hoping we have got ourselves a win or two by then of course. But when we do make it to the Ricoh let’s enjoy ourselves and party like we are top of the league! IF and it’s a MASSIVE IF, we have managed something at Sincil Bank the week before then we will most definitely have something to celebrate.
