As a manager in any bussness you have to manage any budget correctly and this is we're slade has NOT. Jones Hooper cardwell Vernon assante matt Wilks vernam that's 8 strikers now at the club. For argument sake if each player costs our club 700 pound per week then our total weekly pay to these players is 5600. I am certain if we had 4 strikers at the club on 1400 per week which totals 5600 per week the outlook would be very different bottom line is that you get what you pay for in life not just footballers but with any product.

Would you rather have 6 strikers that are not great/out of favour/not good enough or 8 including the aforementioned 6 plus 2 talented strikers on loan that we may not be paying much for?

Most clubs do pay loan fees and more often then not they do pay towards there's wages you could say as a goodwill guessture. So no loan players are generally not free as you put it.

Russell Slade did say in one of his interviews that loan players are quite expensive at this time of the year.

So Slade comes in, moans he hasn't got much wriggle room vis a vis signings and makes an already large and reasonably average squad, even bigger and worse in quality. Cracking job there.

Jones is a midfielder, Matt is a decent hold up man, Vernum has started well as we home this new kid does. Vernon is a player on the way down and not Slade’s fault.
However it’s criminal that Slade signed the garbage Hooper and Cardwell after spending so much time looking at them. Throw in his treatment of Asante and you can look where most of the blame lies

All long as they are all back defending corners he won't see a problem with a 2, 8 formation.

To be fair Jones is not a striker by trade, Cardwell is “under development” Asante is unproven and it’s not worked out how he would have liked but that’s not his fault. Matt on for offers something different and the last 2? Well 3 weeks ago every fuker was moaning we didn’t have any striking options

I don't think Jones knows what he's supposed to be either. Mind you, if I'd been replaced by Hooper as many times as he has, I think I'd have given up too.

I heard on the grapevine that RS isn't a big fan of Jones and seeing Jones' reaction at times he has been substituted I think that feeling may be mutual.

I am no fan of Slade but if a manager sees ( as does the world) that they aren't scoring enough goals then surely he is right to try and bring players in who may do so?
Dammed if you do.......

I'd rather have 8 strikers and stay in this league, than go down with 6 mis-firing ones. We can worry about trimming the squad at the end of the season.
Vernam has definitely pepped up the front line. Let's hope this lad does the same.

He needed to bring forward players in but the point that Slade has built a very, very large squad which is very low on quality seems a pretty fair one to me.

The two new strikers up front, a Dembele firing on all cylinders. Seems quite an exciting option to me.

I feel a bit sorry for Cardwell, as in short times when I have seen him he looks to have something about him and can finish. I would have given him a chance recently. Slade brought him in but obviously doesn't think he is worth a place. He is 21 and a former Scottish U21 player. What is the point?

Absolutely. These signings just push the contracted players further down the pecking order, and they seem more of a waste of budget with every passing week. The fact he gave some of them 2 year deals is baffling.

Given how few goals we score the word 'strikers' is a bit of an overstatement for most of them.

Got to feel for Cardwell he could do a very good job with the right coaching and club. Jones has proved he can score goals as he did last season this season has been very disappointing for both us and Sam in particular. To my mind he is a striker and with better service would be a good one. Vernon tries but lack of pace and the ability to win the ball in the air I can only see his career going downwards. Hooper offers nothing sorry but I have only seen him once looking like a striker. Asante came here with hope of being an Omar Bogle type player but have yet to even see him. Veneran looks keen and sharp but even if the new lad and he are a hit in front of goal what future have GTFC got with them? It may help secure survival and Slade's immediate future but nothing more.

This frustrates the life out of me. We pay fees for young-ish players from non- league who are clearly more than capable (this includes Osborne btw) and with a bit of coaching and game time could become top players for the club and even bring in a transfer fee later down the line. Yet a year later the club are prepared to let them go because the current cretin of a manager doesn’t fancy them. It’s obvious this lad has ability. It’s obvious this lad could be a good player for this club, but for some reason we seem happy to let him leave, whilst wage-thieves like Kelly and Hooper stay at the club because this clown of a manager signed them! The quicker Slade goes the better. Should never have been reappointed. Slade Out!

Not sure Jones is a midfielder to be honest.
I think that quote about him being an attacking midfielder was based around him playing as one of the 3 attacking players in a 4231 when he was at Gateshead.
I really couldn't see him playing midfield in a 442.
When you score 7 in 16 (I think) playing as a striker in your first half season, you can be classed as a striker for me.

Wouldn't be too bothered if Vernon was offloaded. 4 goals in 2 years is shocking (for a striker)
At the Colchester game even one of the stewards said he was glad they'd gotten rid of him as he was sh1te for them

I agree but maybe 4-4-2 is too constricting for his abilities. To utilise Jones in the two strikers of 4-4-2 then he needs a good target man alongside him and that is something we sadly lack. Matt is ok but not the answer if you play Jones up front alongside him.

Jones has been picked when fit, more often than not. Probably not worth getting upset about him leaving just because someone posted it on the fishy. Also Jones is 26 and Osborne 25...should be hitting their prime really. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the new lad and I thought Vernam was brilliant at Colchester. Agreed, it’s not great to have so many players on the books, but if we’re not scoring there needs to be change, no matter which manager signed the other forwards.

Can we stop with this fallacy? Bignot played people out of position because he was a useless manager. He's been playing people out of position at Chester as well which certainly can't be for experimental reasons because they're in the middle of a relegation battle.
