Top player and great striker.
RIP 😞

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Very sad news. What a great player he was and always came across as a nice guy too.

Saw him play against Town early 80's, what a strong, awkward and no nonsense player he was, and a good finisher, a centre backs nightmare. A real shame, that really is no age.

What an icon and trailblazer this guy was. Great player too and his goal of the season sticks in my mind above all others. Was a great era before money started to destroy the game.

RIP and thanks for some great memories.

As a young lad who just loved watching football, Cyrill Regis was always a player I looked forward to watching whenever he graced Match of the Day or ITV's The Big Match. A great player indeed. I wonder what he'd cost in today's crazy transfer market.

A sad loss.

Think he played up front with Dwight Yorke for Villa against town in the league cup 92 season ? Can anyone confirm ?

As a young lad, I went to a few WBA games in the late 70s with my uncle and cousins from the black country. All huge Albion fans, it was a special time for them, with Big Cyrille, Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson, the Three Degrees. There will be a huge outpouring of grief in those parts, he was like a god to them, and by all accounts, a very humble and kind man that mixed with the fans..

RIP Big Cyrille

A great player and one of my all time favourites quite similar to Lukaku in many ways but his hold up play and first touch  I would say was better.Saw him play live at BP for Coventry and he knocked Paul Agnew clean out after running into him he was a beast of a centre forward and admired by fans of most opposing Clubs.RIP

Wow...really sorry to hear this sad news and at such a relatively young age

I don't think there are any genuine football fans who couldn't help but admire Cyrille

He was one hell of a player who commanded admiration from everyone

RIP Big Fella

Aye and I bet not many of the guilty parties would have said a word to his face? They were different times Racism was rife on the terraces it`s not like that now and that`s largely thanks to the likes of Cyrille and the other black players who came through in the 70s and 80s our own Tony Ford being one they won over the fans and raised the bar.

My bad PSG & livosnose

I was thinking of the FA Cup game early in '94

But your link triggered my memory so looked up the second leg at Villa Park where we went through on away goals

Both Cyrille and Dalian ( and Dwight Yorke) played against us in that one

RIP Big Cyrille.

59 is no age.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Same age as myself grew up with Cyrille playing for West Brom big bustling centre forward always played with a big smile on his face.

Endured the monkey chants let his goals do the talking and they were normally spectacular.

Think he even earned a few England caps RIP one of football's pioneers.

This, and what Moosey said. The terrible abusive racism this guy must've endured, sickens me.

If you go to the BBC website and watch the interview with Brian Deane about the death of Regis, you can see just what he meant to young black players, and the terrible abuse they used to receive.
