I see dayle has signed for guiseley for undisclosed fee. No disrespect to the derby lad but I'd be more happy if we had signed dayle instead. He would be in my starting 11 on Saturday. My one reason for this is commitment to the cause to play for a team you care about. Something which many current gtfc players don't have thoughts plz. Can I plz now have more green ticks then red crosses thankyou.

That is disrespect to the Derby lad, he hasn't kicked a ball for Town yet, at least give him 90 mins before writing him off.

Again many red crosses regarding  dayle southwell a local lad from Louth. Who was brought up though the youth setup. If I could play on Saturday I would pay gtfc to have that privilege. Surely a player who cares for a football club will give a do or die attitude for the cause. How many players do gtfc have at the moment just taking a wage. Commitment can sometimes bring a better result then skill.

You know Vernham is a town fan right? From the area and was Scunny youth. He was in the year above me at school and is passionate about this club

But that doesn't fit your agenda does it?

Yes mikoo I no that. But dayle was with gtfc youth not Scunthorpe youth. Up untill now never heard of him. Did vernham ever get offered youth terms with gtfc. ???? Or did he decline to sign for Scunthorpe instead????

Southwell did fantastically well at Boston, and got his league move to Wycombe, where it didn't go so well. Perhaps non league is his level? This wish to play local lads because they are local is laudable, but if they aint good enough, they aint good enough.

Ultimately, we want the best players wearing the shirt, whether they were born in the Main Stand or on the Moon.

We haven't seen this new lad play yet (and come to think of it, never saw much of DS) so let's just give him a chance shall we.

What on earth does it matter what youth setup he was with?

He's a Town fan and that's something to account for. Really hope he bangs a hat-trick in tomorrow and shuts you up

Darryl Clare was a player who understood his abilities and limitations and became a Conference specialist, doing a great job for a number of clubs. Perhaps that's how Southwell will end up doing things as well? No shame in that.

Exactly. Not everyone can have an Messi/Ronaldo goal record in the top flight - my level is probably back garden footy. I’d say to become a really good player in a national division would be some going considering he was cast off by a professional club at a young age.

Peter Winn was local lad appeared good loan signing but no not to be and now I bellieve at Clee Town. Think if Dayle were up to the league Wycombe would have retained him, think Ginny is right and he maybe one of those players whose level is the Conference

Interesting (although not that interesting) to see how he gets on, he's never had a decent run of games at that level before.

I love how being born in the area instantly makes you a better player in the eyes of some GTFC fans. I’d kill for a team of local hero’s, but at the end of the day, if they’re not good enough, they’re not good enough.

If Wycombe don’t think he’s good enough, and most  think we should be doing better than Wycombe, then where is the logic in that?

Because he's local and will literally bleed black and white and literally run through brick walls and stuff. I remember Peter Bore was famed for his work rate.

Dayle has never established himself at Football League level, and has failed to reproduce the form he found in a very decent none league Boston Utd.

He even went on loan to Lincoln City last season. Note how the so-called Messiah Danny Cowley hasn’t tried to sign him. Says everything really about where Dayle is at the moment.

Guisely is probably a good move for him, where hopefully he can re-establish his form and try to reignite his career.

Meanwhile your comment regarding the young Derby loaner is very harsh

For sure he can't score any less than the strikers that Slades been playing up top lately, he has to start him and give the lad a chance to hopefully give us something to cheer. UTM.

Daryl is too lightweight for league two and his skill level is not high enough to overcome that problem. Pitch him in against none league defences and he's good enough to do the business.

Bobby Cumming and Matt Tees were both born in Scotland,

BUT

You could not find any player more committed to the cause than those two greats,

So it does not mean a fig if you are local or not just ability and wanting to wear the black + white shirt.

By the same token, if we're down to signing 'adequate' players, I'd rather have a player with an affinity for the area than one who doesn't give a toss.

They have the words “professional footballer” on their contracts, the professional bit means in theory they should be reasonably committed.

Time to move on I reckon, I’m sure the player will have done when he pulls on his boots in a bit.

I'm sure Slade has dropped a few clangers in his time, but it'd be a rare departure to sign one  .
