FA chief executive Martin Glenn said on Tuesday that a BAME candidate would be interviewed for all England coaching jobs in the future as part of plans aimed at improving inclusivity within English soccer’s governing body.

Equality and diversity i am all for but surely this going beyond, if you happened to be the BAME candidate invited to interview would you think
" am i only here because i am BAME ?" .....i dont see how the FA can state they "will" interview a BAME candidate....surely the ONLY criteria are  suitability, qualifications, competence, experience, success ?!? ie the best person for the job.

Best man for the job everytime doesn't matter if they are white, black or Asian, as long as they aren't French, Scottish, Argentinian or German

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

Correct me if my figures are wrong but, isn't the BAME population about 5%, there are 20 premier clubs with one BAME manager, Brighton, that's 5% of the clubs.

Or a Yorkie

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Yet the % of BAME players (the pool managers come from) is 25%.

Ok your figures are wrong

In the 2011 census (the most recent) 86% of people identified as "White" so I suppose you can assume the BAME population makes up the other 14%

However the Rooney rule is ridiculous, surely there's only so many times John Barnes, Paul Ince, Marcus Bignot etc want to be interviewed for a job they're not going to get

What isn’t clear to me, is if the only applicants are white, is the interview process delayed until they have convinced a BAME candidate to apply?

Wasn't a previous chief constable of Humberside a woman, did she get the job by merit or default, from what I remember it all went mammaries up for her.

You always get that one joker who won the premier league on FM who applies, maybe they're hoping he's of a BAME background

Does he mean England coaching jobs as in coaching for any of the FA England national teams, all ages, all sexes and all coaching positions therein?

It's all gone a bit obscene hasn't it, some myth that people are denied management jobs due to the colour of their skin has now resulted in people being interviewed purely for the colour of their skin.

What if the only applications are from BAME applicants, does the interviews go ahead or do they have to find a white, Anglo Saxon applicant to meet quotas.

But the managers don't come from the current crop of players. Managers experienced enough to get the England job would typically have at least 10 years experience, more like 20. Look at the BAME player ratio in that time and it will be much lower.

There are 2 former Google employees that are raising a lawsuit because conservative white males are being overlooked for jobs and treated with disrespect because minorities are prioritised.

It's not just about the top job though, just looking at the u-21s in fairly recent years we've had Platt, Peace and Southgate, none of which had distinguished club managerial careers before getting the job and with Southgate going on to the senior team.

Actually 1997/98 was 18% and 07/08 was 33%. We can't keep hiding behind the less BAME players argument because it is simply no longer true. The Rooney rule is clearly ridiculous but it's only been brought in because there is a real issue with recruitment further down. The make up of boardrooms probably reflects society even less.

Thanks for your stat about 2 people though. Can't be nice for people to feel disrespected because of their race.
