We paid £550k for Ashcroft, remains our record signing and probably will forever and a day.

I saw Jewell hit the bar for us at Oxford about 25 years ago, from about ten yards out. For that reason, I’d rule him out of ever coming back to the club, think it was just a months loan.

It was Bruce Rioch who signed Ashcroft for Wigan, Jewell didn't go there for another year.
