Was he even Slades choice, or an attempt by the club to bring in a local connection? He's not really done a lot in the game as a coach before this season. The fact is, we just cannot score goals and they are both to blame for that. Recruitment and training are the two main planks of their trade and it isn't going well is it?

Because he is responsible for coaching the strikers, not exactly doing a great job is he,in fact you have to ask what exactly does he do.
Are they good enaough to coach? And he brought in a couple of suspect signings but a couple of decent ones but again are they poor because of the tactics used by the manager? I really dont see Wilko using long ball tactics, lets face it he will not have played in many teams that employed the long game.

Is he? Why, because he was a striker himself? Why do people think Wilko only coaches strikers and Paul Hurst could only coach defenders? Yeah they'll have a bit of specialism with a position they played themselves, but they can coach teams overall - as you have to, to gain the qualifications they've done and get the jobs they've had. Aside from that, an Assistant Manager is going to try and coach the team to play in the way the Manager wants to. Who knows if he would be a good Manager, or even if he would be higher thought of by some if he was an Assistant to a different Manager playing a different way.

This struck me at the time too. He had very little input at the forum,no interaxction of any note with the manager and finally had some information dragged out of him when requested but looked like he didn't want to be there when Slade went into full Matt-Dean-berating mode. Maybe he's not happy with the setup but is seemingly content to sit back and watch the club limp along aimlessly like the rest of the GTFC staff.

So.. He's not very good at interviews. So what? He will be responsible for building and putting out a football side to compete in the league, not I'm a celebrity get me out of here.
Bignot was brilliant at interviews but crap at managing a football team.

Well Wilko is guilty by association at the very least to helping serve up an unpopular style of football yielding mediocre results.
Think this is a bit unfair - Mourinho's assistant routinely escapes censure when Man Utd "park the bus". The manager is paid to take the final decisions. For those hoping for Slade's imminent departure, Wilko is the only realistic candidate to replace him - given his familiarity with the squad and January being with us. Unlikely to happen IMO, and I've no idea if PW would be better anyway....but he'd be fairly hard pressed to do much worse.

If things are going wrong a manager needs a strong number 2, to tell him so and not be a yes man.

Alan Buckley had a great working partnership with Arthur Mann and said they both bounced a lot of ideas off each other. Coincidentally once Mann stopped working with Buckley then AB never seemed to achieve the same success.

Same thing happened with Clough

If any team wins a game 5-0, how often does the assistant manager do the after match interview. The manager has to take both the praise and the flack. (One day Slade will do an after match interview after a 5-0 win)
