Just back on the train. It's like watching the Boshell-Clarke-Hunt-Jarman team of 10 years ago. Plenty of effort but a desperate lack of ability and off the ball movement. Their first was from a simple passing move which saw their left back square it for a guy sliding in the six yard box to bury. The second was a free kick that killip fumbled leaving their player to leather it into an unguarded net. Apart from hitting the bar early in the second half, Crewe took their foot off the gas and seemed happy to contain what little threat we have.

Home now. I don't want to talk about that crap. I said we should of gone home before start when I saw the line up.

I've seen a clip of Ben Davies putting an indirect free kick over the bar from SIX yards out. If the game was half as pathetic and shite as that effort then I feel for all who made the trip.

. Started brightly enough but DJs forcing their keeper into a reflex  save with his foot in a bout the 6th minute really was as good as it got.
Dembele largely at fault for the first goal for not tracking his runner but they were queueing up for the eventual cross.
Second goal killed the game. Killip won't want too many viwings of it.
Marginally better second half but still never looked like scoring. Vernon should be taken out of the firing line for his own sake. The lad cannot do anything right at the moment.
Summerfield and Berrett did OK. Dixon didn't disgrace himself but Siriki had comfortably his worst game in a Town shirt. Matt didnt really get into the game and Woolford did nowt to impress. Chants of Slade out were heard across the whole away support. Impossible to fathom how a side can plunge from the excellent performance at Notts in EIGHTEEN days.
Pretty dispirited tonight

Such a shame, but I don't think issues on the playing side are as drastic as people are making out. We haven't invested in the squad and are lacking in quality. Another sacking could make us worse.

Could it have something to do with the fact that arguably our most talented player can't be arsed to come back and improve our chances and the club are doing sod all to make him keep his part of his employment contract?

So glad it was a 20 min trip for me, but for 5 mins start and end of each half just utter dross, one proper shot on target all game; we are simply too negative, if a team has possession in our half our players just run away from the ball into the penalty area. Vernon Woolford just too slow, Dembele and DJ trying too hard, back four that cant defend and strikers that cant score. Crewe were nothing, its just they moved a bit quicker and did things quicker and got to nearly all the 2nd balls.
Only 1 playewr who can say they were ok today and that was Summerfield, didn't notice Osbourne do much wrong but overall what a waste of £22. Thought the chanting Slade/Fenty out was a bit unfair on the players at an away match, but all for it when we're at home.

Should have listened to the Mrs when suggested to son we go today!

I won’t repeat some accurate observations about how we played today from previous posts. However, as an ex player I can tell that half the side did not want to be there today. The body language was defeatist, negative and absolutely no leadership in the team as well as the obvious technical deficiencies already commented on.

I am 100% certain that RS does not have a squad fighting or believing in what he is trying to do.

It’s one thing to have absolutely no threat in front of goal, which we do. But coupled with a team that has lost its desire, then these are perilous weeks for us as a real nosedive is possible.

I see real problems ahead and let’s be honest, we can keep changing our managers but the issues at GTFC are much deeper and more fundamental than that.

The club has a leadership crisis from top to bottom, a culture of blames and bullying when challenged and a complete lack of transparency and humility from its board.

Worrying times.

Considering the low away attendance, I should've followed a lot of people and stayed at home. £22 not well spent...

Was hoping for a response from Saturday and we started fairly well but as soon as they started attacking, they scored and looked like doing so every time they went forward. Second half we had a lot of possession as they sat back but didn't come close to scoring so no surprise there.

This team honestly just bores me, and the five changes (some enforced) we made from Saturday just made it worse.

Crewe also lost by three goals on Saturday and also made five changes. They obviously have more depth to their squad.

Slade should never have been appointed.

We have invested in the squad - we have a squad of 30. We've just made bad investments.

Slade cannot get the best out of our most talented players. Jamey Osborne allegedly not committed, Sam Jones - our only real goal threat - has lost form and confidence.

It's not excusable because they're professionals, but if I was a creative midfielder/attacker I wouldn't want to be playing in a Russell Slade team.

So, in summary: Slade has made mostly bad signings, made our few talented players lose form or feel marginalised, got us playing the most boring style of football in my living memory and has a worse points-per-game ratio than the 'disruptive' Marcus Bignot.

I don't see a future under Russell Slade. I can't for the life of me see what he's trying to build.

Sladeballs desperate comment was like a dead man walking tying to buy time, so far there is nothing to show what he is building, unless it's cheap as chips players who do enough to avoid relegation each season whilst playing the most unattractive football they can club together.

Well they do say that Rome wasn't built in a day, but I wasn't on that job

When your manager tells his players right I want EVERYBODY back for EVERY corner it says two things to me. He as no confidence in the defence and as given up on our counter-attack.

It's the most negative tactic ever and must be a joy to play against.

A massive vote of no confidence in their abilities right there from the boss WTF???

The players must feel the same way as us about it and it shows in their body languish.

Just watching the highlights? on sky and we almost conceded when a cleared corner by us is knocked straight back in by their defender under no pressure at all.

Got to go down as the worst tactic I have ever seen and that includes the crazy lopsided Bigclot formation.

P.S. Ben Davis blasting over from six yards is inexcusable sorry but with defenders kept away from him he as to hit the target at least.

This Ben Davies blasting over from 6 yards is flipping terrible. The chances of you scoring from an indirect free kick is actually quite slim because of the sheer volume of players on the line, now if I asked people what would they do. Hit it low or high I would imagine most would say low which is what it should be. Pelt the ball low towards the goals, the men on the line have little chance to react so at the very worst the ball should bounce back into the box giving you and team mates another chance to score. Smashing it high over the bar is inexcusable

I might argue the opposite. You smash it at a player's cobblers, or chest or, better still, face, and they flinch, move or turn away, increasing the chances of a fortuitous deflection or a lack of reaction from a player who can't stick his foot or leg out to block the ball because it's whistling straight at their chops. Obviously he didn't mean to blast it over the bar and that's pretty shabby all things considered, but you could probably understand why he wanted to smack it high.
He made a bad mistake. It happens. He's not one of the players we should be generally disappointed with. We are not carrying him or getting no return for our money like several others. He's  done well this season I would say.

Agree with some of the points made by chaos above.

This criticism of Ben Davies missing this free-kick is ridiculously over the top and unjust. A bit like when people slate a player for missing a penalty. It happens. Not everyone scores penalties, just like not everyone scores indirect free kicks, or even gets them on target, when there's 10 bodies on the goal line 7 yards away.

He was clearly going for the roof of the net. Nothing wrong with that and if he'd smashed it lower and hit someone's knee/chest, I'm sure everyone would have been calling him a disgrace etc etc (same old rubbish) for hitting it straight at a defender.

I know there's a lot of negativity around a lot of things but, jesus christ, pick reasonable things to get so wound up about at least, not someone missing a chance that he should've scored because you'd have scored it playing on Fifa18 at home.

The tactic of getting every player back for corners is common amongst many teams including up to premiership level. It does not explain gtfc poor performances.

But......
When they clear the ball they don't whack it as far as possible,  but play it out to the edge of the box where their midfield players can pick it up and counter.
We just whack it and stand around waiting for the ball to be played back.
