As the club is not making a loss, his exit strategy is easy:
1 Return shares to trust that he shouldn't have got in the first place 2 write off benign loans 3 Resign from the board taking whats his name with him. 4 New major shareholder runs club and invites Parker etc to join board 5 Dembele could be sold to give a financial reserve. 6 Fenty, Sonik, and Sqarkus are never seen or heard of again 7 we all get back to enjoying the football
You will enjoy the football if you leave your key board.

Look before we launch into more posts on this topic can we just put it hold? Everyone has their say, nothing can possibly be said that hasn't been said hundreds of times before. Nobody is going to budge an inch. I won't lock the thread but I will if people keep posting on the subject. The good thing about football is every game is different.
I'm with Bigdog on this - 4 games unbeaten doesn't exonerate years of poor judgement and bad decisions. I've supported GTFC since the days of Paddy Hamilton and several other chairman without giving a second thought to their decisions. Only in the last 15 years have I taken any notice of how embarrassing our leadership is - I support whoever wears the shirt, come what may, good, bad or indifferent. If no-one is allowed to say what they think, then this stops being an independent fans' forum. I'm independent - I want the basic right of freedom of speech - I want my football team to win every week - I don't want to see our local sports reporter hung out to dry - I don't want to see our award-nominated SLO forced out of her position and, I don't want to post on a forum that's censored.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread but the highlighted part doesn't make sense. If you can't comment on the thread topic, you may as well lock it, or delete it.

Rob, this sits badly alongside the Squarkus let-off. There's either pressure on you or you're just getting narky in your old age and want to stick your head in the sand re the Fishy troll "GYFR".
Poor stuff, think I'll share the cab ride with BigDog,

Look the whole thread that this spawned from is pointless, that's all I meant. The whole thing was people just having a dig at one another and it just lost its way. No topic is banned but this thread deserved to die a death days ago. If you look at the message I replied to it was a continuation of factions having a go at one another. The site is becoming marginalised at the moment between extreme views, with many fans being left in the middle somewhere.

Maybe they should pipe up say something then. Maybe it'd help bridge the gap or help find a way forward.

Factions? Rob, you've run this site long enough to know that the Sick of Fents outnumber the sycophants. God knows where this club would be if it had been run properly.

QED. The very divisive language you use is belittling people as "sycophants" who support the status quo, which is not an unreasonable position in any walk of life! I'm far from certain that the vast majority of the 5,000 or so GTFC regulars and up to 10,000 occasional supporters have a burning desire for regime change at any cost right this minute. If you spend your life looking at "social media" you tend to read very extreme views, not just in football but on any subject. From the games I go to, what I overhear from those sat close to me when I do, and the people I know personally, I don't detect much appetite at all for change. But they don't necessarily all announce it to the world. The Fishy should be for all Town fans. There has never been any other intent on my part.

I think expressing views is fine and that’s what sites like this are for. Fantasies about millionaires coming in, share issues and fan ownership are waring a bit thin TBH. Lots of posts about JF and the boys making way but people need to wake up to the fact that their is nobody waiting to take over.

Just to be clear this thread spawned from a rambling rather confrontational thread and has been split from its parent as it deserves its own topic. I haven't made it very clear, sorry for the confusion, I'll try better next time. The "split" functionality available to mods is not easy to use and does not see daylight much.
The Fishy is a place for everyone to express their views and respect those of others. That hasn't always been happening. When it was written the Fishy was aimed at informing people about what was happening at GTFC. It was pitched at people who might not spend all their life absorbing every available fact about the club but wanted to check out team news, gossip about new signings, find out which pub people were meeting at, read views on recent games and performances, and exchange banter with opposing fans. That hasn't changed. Yes, of course, there will be occasions when the manager and the board were questioned, as at any club, usually after a poor run of results. Someone coming to look for team news and seeing one thread about the game and six about removing the board is going to be confused at best and will probably go elsewhere.
It's not a problem having anti-board threads but they need to be clearly labelled as such so it doesn't conflict with the normal function of the forum, and doesn't drown it out. The exceptions are occasions like the fans forum when clearly there is something specific to talk about.

I agree, Rob. There have been many occasions when a thread has been started on one particular topic and then it quickly changes to an anti JF/Board theme with the usual insults about those who don't share those views.

So because you think the subject's wearing thin and that it's not very likely to happen, then it shouldn't be discussed? Even though this is a burning issue, in a lot of fans' minds? If it's not your cup of tea then just stay away from those threads and use other threads to get your post count up.

Doesn't that just go to show that you can't quash dissent? If Rob closes a thread attacking the board it'll just rear its head somewhere else. Look at the number of times that Rob has tried to draw a line under a subject only for it to be sparked into new life sometimes by the very act of trying to close a subject off. You either have to accept it'll happen, or have a completely moderated board where every post has to be approved by a moderator before it's published. Eventually the threads which are critical trail off naturally unless someone in authority does something to spark it off again. Look at last week. It went very quiet until John Fenty made the decision about the SLO and came on here trying to defend it.

“Post count” What like most of the posters on this thread you mean? This is what is p1ssing people off about The Fishy the attitude of “ you can only post on this thread if you agree” if you disagree your told you are wrong or not to post? “Just because you don’t like what people say doesn’t mean they’re wrong” so someone once told me.

Rob, have you done any analysis of the number of unique visitors when there's a big debate going on here about off-field issues versus when it's quieter on the 'political' front? The whole question about the purpose(s) of the Fishy is an interesting one. It's so easy to get all of that information these days without having to trawl the net (the T word being off the top of my head the most convenient) you'd have to ask what is unique about the Fishy to make people come here. To my mind it'd be the forum (for all its warts) and the fact that, whilst being moderated, there's a variety of views and comments, but unlike Twitter there's scope for arguments to be developed more fully. It's more like a sometimes raucus, regulars pub where you may not like everyone but it's much preferable to some town centre bar (selling fizzy lager/alcopops) where there's a transient clientele. The debate can be robust sometimes, but it's not like the out-and-out punch ups you sometimes get in the Tweeters Arms. When someone's in trouble the customers rally round one of their own and when the Special Care Baby Unit needs a new incubator the place is a hive of fundraising. Obviously as landlord you've got to be looking at the big picture and whether the sometimes rowdy behaviour of the regulars puts off other people. On the other hand, you clear the regulars out and you might create another soul-less bar where as soon as the next new thing comes along you're on the way to becoming a new branch of Tesco Express.

You can see for yourself. https://forum.thefishy.co.uk/Blah.pl?v-stats/Unique visitors, which I do have but is not on there. is a bit misleading as everyone uses so many different devices these days. There is a lot of search traffic as well as there are so many pages going back over time. Most of them leave very quickly. So I prefer the forum stats. While the average number of clicks is pretty constant the posts have dropped off this month (partly down to no Pete granted). If you look on the archive and scroll back a few years, which I did the other day, you can see that there is a marked change between the sort of thread we have now and we did then. I think 200 different people posted in November, it would be interesting to compare with other months.

Quick glance and it looks like there are fewer threads with more posts per thread this year compared to most previous years.

This board is becoming too Hegelian for my liking. Us Kantians are being marginalised. I'm off.

I would never want to quash dissent. However, some posters look at every thread just to find an opportunity to have a go at JF/The Board. Some threads go so far of piste as to be ridiculous, just to make some anti club point.

I usually don’t take part in the pro v anti-Fenty threads, simply because people’s views are so entrenched. To be honest when they proliferate the forum I tend to avoid it. It’s not that I don’t have a view, I do and I’ve voiced it, once. I’m all for free speech but there are many threads that are devoid of debate and discussion and are full of bile and hatred. It’s not surprising a lot of people switch off. Merry Christmas

Then why don't you contribute your balanced view and try to improve the quality of discussion? That would surely be more constructive than casting aspersions on the whole message board. It sounds like you're guilty of what you accuse others of.

| Through the door there came familiar laughter, I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser, For in our hearts the dreams are still the same. |

Thanks for the invite Kingston. I will continue to add my views to threads I feel I can contribute to, and avoid those I feel I don’t.

I would never want to quash dissent. However, some posters look at every thread just to find an opportunity to have a go at JF/The Board. Some threads go so far of piste as to be ridiculous, just to make some anti club point.
Talking about "piste"-I see Pistorius has had his sentence increased to 15 years.

It was to be expected as he didn't have a leg to stand on.

We played the Pistorius drinking game on the firms night out. Anytime anyone went to the toilet you had to have four shots !!

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |
