Slade's tactics on Saturday...and the choice was between these two outcomes, what would you choose?
1. Team set up defensively. Woolford and Vernon replace DJ and Matt. 11 men behind the ball. A turgid game but just before half time there's a breakaway move and Dembele scores. Second half is more of the same and we battle out a 1-0 win. Apart from the goal, it's 90 mins of tedium.
2. No change to the team and RS says 'go out and attack.' We get exposed at the back, 0-2 at HT, a third after the break but a late consolation. Lose 1-3 in a cracking game.
What do you choose?

2 easy choice

I'd love to know why this merited 5 red crosses? Anyone who gave a red cross willing to share their thinking. Was just trying to have a bit of a fun debate while we wait for Saturday to come round.

We'd all choose that option! When Slade was manager here before, he was very unpopular even when we looked nailed on for promotion. Having said that, some fans used to moan that Buckley's teams were too tippy tappy. That's football - you'll never please everyone 😀

Obviously in the professional game we will set up to get a result. Depends what Slade has seen in Notts style of play; if he has seen any weaknesses in the defence he might play the same team and get at them where possible.
Probably we will try to frustrate them though, but I don't see why we cannot do that with the same team that has played reasonably well recently. I certainly would not put Vernon in ahead of Matt though, whatever team he picks.

If everyone is fit why change a winning side?
We looked very balanced and although we never scored in open play made a stack of good chances the woodwork and good keeping saved them on more than one occasion.
On another day Jones would have got at least one he was very unlucky.
Summerfield had the keeper at full stretch on one and perhaps chose the wrong option on another but hey we got behind them on several occasions just the final option/ball not quite right..

Don't give a fig how we play away from home, all that matters is increasing the points frustrate time waste use every trick in the book and sneak one on the break would suit me after all that's what most team do at bp. But at home I want to see the reverse

I'd imagine we'll have a lot of defending to do, but you don't change a winning team unless you have to. If this means Jaiyesimi and Dembele need to do a bit more defensive work, then so be it. They are both young, fit lads with enough stamina to defend as well as attack.
It's very important that we're better on the counter attack than against FGR because County won't give us nearly as many opportunities on the break so we need to make them count, whether getting efforts away at goal or winning corners.

Amen to that. Watched the extended highlights and the 2 or 3 breakaways we had second half looked awful once we reached the box...Jones twice and Summerfield once getting it wrong....Jones in particular with the one where all he had to do was slide it 5 yds left to a totally unmarked Hooper for a certain goal.

There is an art to matching a team and grinding out a result, as much as there is winning in more glamorous ways. Football is a tactical game!
Would never in a million years choose 2.
I do prefer Matt and think he's a better player than Vernon, but i'm not sure why choosing him over Matt would mean we were playing more defensively? They're both forwards!

The problem with the original post - and I'm sure we all know what it was hinting at - is that it's in isolation.
As a whole fanbase we'd be delighted with option 1. A win is a win, after all. Also, we've just won 3 on the spin, so we can forgive a game where we go back to basics and grind out an ugly win.
However, we'd be less forgiving of an ugly win if we'd been playing ugly all season because it'd give us little hope for the future.
Like others have already said, we should be going there with confidence. We have the quality to get a result there. We shouldn't be intimidated (Forest Green went there and drew). They should be looking at us with just a little bit of fear considering our recent form.

Yeah I was wondering that. Matt's probably more useful for defensive set pieces too!

Matt for the first 70 minutes and then replace the tiring player, he would also be told this so he knows not to try and save energy

After 4 home games with a total 0 goals for 1 goal against the next home game was against Swindon. We'd played some of the best football we'd seen all season at Blundell Park but found ourselves 1-2 down at half-time. I turned to my mate and said well, I'd rather be watching us play like that and be 1-2 down than watch anymore of those turgid 0-0 draws.
I hate the kind of questions asked by the OP, they are always so weighted to one side of the argument. Is it not possible to play an entertaining style of football and still win? Is it not possible to lose playing boring play-by-numbers football?
I don't expect to win every match. I even don't expect us to gain promotion but what I do want to see is some entertaining football on a Saturday afternoon at BP.
I don't think that is too much to ask.
