If you could go back and relive one Town game which one would you pick?

For me Town 1 WBA 0 with the full on Ivano effect can anyone recall Blundell Park getting anywhere near those decibel levels since the seats went in? What a day what an atmosphere what a goal and what a set of circumstances surrounding it all.

1980.... Town 4-0 Sheffield Utd

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Does it have to be one that you actually saw?

If so, then the Exeter game in 1991 when we clinched promotion to what is now The Championship. At least then I'd be able to relax for the last 5 minutes or so, knowing that Shaun Taylor's header was hitting the post.

If not I'd go back to 1933 and either of the games v Man United when we won 3-1 at Old Trafford and 7-3 at BP on Christmas Day and Boxing Day respectively.

God. We were "spoilt" in those days. The only game for me which came close noise level-wise was the home play off leg v Fulham. When that goal went in the noise in the Pontoon was amazing. My favourite ever game was the 3-2 win over Barnsley in 1982 (Good Friday) when we came from 2-0 down. The look of shock on the faces of the Yorkies after the game was priceless. I'd gladly go back to that game.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Great choice Barra! It's hard to pick one out but that game always springs to mind. Keegans expensive side, Peschisolido's red card assualt in the first leg, and that goal you mention... time actually stopped for me as it dipped in under the bar. Everyone, absolutely everybody in the Ponny went mental and lost their senses for a few seconds. So lucky in some ways to be so spoilt for favourite memories from the past.

If it's a game in my lifetime I'd pick the Ivano one referred to by the OP. If it's before my lifetime I'd like to see us beat Man Utd 4-3 away on 11/10/1947, the last time we played them.

When we beat Everton 2-1 on 30th October, 1979, League Cup 4th round, 22,043 at Blundell Park to witness Mick Brolly scoring twice, inspiring the headline in The Sun 'Good Golly, it's Brolly'. Was in the Harrington Street corner (open) in the teeming rain screaming for the final whistle for what felt like an eternity!

So many to choose from. And bearing in mind I’ve been exiled 30 odd years (some of them very odd).

A couple not mentioned so far : Rotherham at home in the same League Cup comp we beat Everton at Goodison. 6:0 or 6:1 the same week we thrashed Scunny. Southend Away March 1990.singing in the rain. Big Keef scoring. We are going up say we are going up.

So if I’m restricted to one it’d be the Sarfend game that Friday night when we suddenly realised promotion was coming.

I was only young when we played Fulham in ‘98, we were sat in the temporary seating between the pontoon and findus and the noise was incredible! Iirc there was a pitch invasion when we scored? I would love to go back and experience that night as an adult!

I would also have loved to been at any of the big games in the 70’s and 80’s, it sounds like it was an incredible yet frightening experience and to someone who grew up in the sky sports era, those days sound like a totally different game!

Actually it's one that Town lost in 2005---0-1 against Newcastle-Shearer claimed Whittle split his lip with his elbow-no foul given so it must have been a clean elbow.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it was the second leg.

That's one of the 'I wish I'd been there games', along with the Burnley AWS semifinal that year, the Liverpool 2001 game, the Exeter 1972 game.......

An obvious one would be Jevons beating Liverpool at Anfield. Great night out apart from the brick through the back of our coach window on the way home.

But for pure entertainment value the best is still Grimsby 6 - 5 Burnley at the BP. Think Kabba got a hattrick that night.

OK for the youngsters especially, but not exclusively, which game from non-League days would you go back to if you could (FGR Play-off final excluded)?

I'd probably got for the SF at Eastleigh in 2015.

Best non-league away day by a country mile was Barnet 1 Town 3 the inflateable invasion day.

At the time we still had a slim chance of catching Barnet but if we'd have lost it would have been all over, so to win the game in the manner we did in front of almost 1000 inflatable wielding fans was something else.

I really enjoyed the Wrexham game just before Christmas 2012.

As for non non league (and steering away from Wembley or Anfield), I'd say Burnley away in 98, or Fulham at home in the playoffs. Wrexham for the Birtles hat-trick too. (I realise this is 2 more than the requested one!)

Here's a random one that most people won't think about.

Away at Reading in the 4th Round FA Cup replay in 1988/89 (I think) when we won 2-1 to secure a trip to Wimbledon, with goals from Shaun Cunnington and Kevin Jobling.

I thought we'd have a couple of hundred or so there that night but we nearly filled the old away end at Elm Park. Must have been about 1500 Town there that night as well as a variety of different inflateables.

seen hundreds of games since my first one in 1967, but no question about it for me - beating FGR at Wembley to back in the Football League.  Just think if we'd still been in that league ....

In the same corner myself that night...although i attended games before that evening i cant remember any of them in particular, that was my first "memorable" game at BP.

however for me.....Watford away 30/1/93 - Won 3-2 -  the one and only game of that season that i missed.... due to the inconsiderate Mrs going into labour in the early hours and not delivering until 10 mins before kick off...could have made it if it was a home game

FGR ....inflatable night....Disley rising like a salmon to score.....without exaggeration pretty much 90 mins of noise from the away end...something Colin Murray bigged up the following day on his Talksport show.  Fantastic evening.

The Everton 2-1 for me..a young lad in con's  corner stood on his stool  that my big bro made for me..also when we took over Wimbledon away in the f.a cup. I went into the greyhound stadium by mistake, was a better stadium than plough lane.

Any of the above would do it but for me it's got to be the Auto Windscreens/Leyland Daf/Johnstones Paint meaningless trophy, GTFC 2 Bournemouth 1, "I was there when Burnett scored". Still got the tee shirt, in fact my son sent a picture of me in it to Wayne last year (how sad)
I used to say to my daughter that before I die I want to walk down Wembley Way wearing my black and white scarf and stand for the national anthem before kick off. I also said that winning and losing was unimportant next to the overall experience, but I realised that was rubbish after some of the recent losses.
For sure my greatest GTFC memory

This is starting to sound like a Harrington St Corner reunion, I was in that bit too as a 12 year old, I remember the Star of the Mirror next morning "Brolly rains on the toffees" springs to mind.

Just being in the Pontoon when it was standing, Being lifted off my feet as a teenager and going from the top of the Pontoon down to almost the bottom after Town scored. The atmosphere and the characters were awesome. A lot of games I came a way with headache with the noise that was generated in those days.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

If it's a game I've been too, I'd choose 4-1 vs Exeter, the first game under George Kerr and Bobby Cumming scored in the first minute.

It was my second ever game and the people I went with said 'it won't always be like that'.  However, for a few seasons it was like that.  The dream ended when I saw us lose 5-1 at home to West Ham and our chance of promotion to the top flight under Dave Booth came to an end.  Heady days! We were really within a whisker of getting to old Div One.

This is starting to sound like a Harrington St Corner reunion, I was in that bit too as a 12 year old, I remember the Star of the Mirror next morning "Brolly rains on the toffees" springs to mind.

We where spoilt long before we where spoilt!

Another that was in that corner, squashed up against the fence.

My game would be the one Barra mentioned agin Barnsley. It was crazy in the Ponny when that third went in.

One I would revisit if I could would be the 3-2 win at Chelsea after us being 2-0 down

I was late to the game because I got locked in M&S I’m Oxford Street because of bomb scares in Central London - Harrods was actually the target

The more central tube stations were closed so I had to circumnavigate my way to Stamford Bridge getting there just as they were kicking off.

Too late to get in the Town end though so went in a side stand

Wished I hadn’t made it when we fell behind but then I saw a fantastic comeback from us but couldn’t celebrate at all

If I could see this one again, I’d be smack bang in the middle of our fans, screaming out my support as we come back to rub Chelsea’s noses in it

Went in the back of a transit van with the CBP of the day fookin long uncomfortable journey but didn't starve as the services got battered and when we got to reading plenty of shenanigans can't remember much about the game tbh
Everton at home or sheff u at home can't really split them

The Everton 2-1 for me..a young lad in con's  corner stood on his stool  that my big bro made for me..also when we took over Wimbledon away in the f.a cup. I went into the greyhound stadium by mistake, was a better stadium than plough lane.

Forgot that Wimbledon game. It seemed like everything on 4 wheels (less in some cases) had come down for the day. I swear blind the 3C was there. Pete must have been driving it.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

My brother took me to that game, I was 11 and I was gutted at half time. Then we came out and put 3 past them with big Keef scoring a beautiful header, I went ballistic. Great memories.

I was on that bus too! Unless more than one bus was bricked that night, which I guess is entirely feasible...

Set off from the Wheatsheaf in Louth?

An obvious one would be Jevons beating Liverpool at Anfield. Great night out apart from the brick through the back of our coach window on the way home.

But for pure entertainment value the best is still  6 - 5 Burnley at the BP. Think Kabba got a hattrick that night.

Remember the aforementioned 3-2 comeback against Barnsley with great affection. The TV cameras were there iirc - a rarity in those days.

My choice would be the Barnsley match (Boxing Day 1979?? ) where the Bob Cumming v Norman Hunter confrontation ended decisively
in favour of our man. If the English language has an adjective to describe how much I loved that moment I don't know it!

Think for me it has to be the Town vs Wolves League Cup quarter final in 1979-80. For one glorious second it looked like we were going to our first major semi final since 1939 but the bar saved Wolves as Kev Moore's brilliant header was just kept out - we really were that close.

Had we beaten Wolves we'd have had an all 3rd Division semi final against Swindon Town, and who knows, we would have been heavy favourites then to get to Wembley. Funny thing is though, Swindon were early runaway leaders in the league and the League Cup seemed to drain them and they finished nowhere at the end of the season. Same might have happened to use had we got to the semis, we'll just never know. We may have emulated QPR though who won the League Cup as a 3rd Division team, coming back from 2 goals down to beat WBA 3-2, and win the title as well.

A gnat's cockhair of the woodwork paint stopped us from ever knowing, unfortunately.

The replay at Molineux was absolutely brilliant as well, coming back from a goal down to force a second replay at Derby. Always remember the huge Town support that night singing "She wore, she wore, she wore a yellow ribbon, she wore a yellow ribbon in the merry month of May...and when I asked her why she wore that ribbon she said it's for the Grimsby Town who're off to Wemberley" The whole stand was bouncing up and down at the end of the game singing that, and we really believed it!

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Far too many to want to watch again, but if I had to it would be my firstt ever match, Scunthorpe 7-1

Thankfully I have many of the old highlights videos so can watch at least the highlights of many of the games already mentioned

The 1972 title win against Exeter - I was there but only 8 at the time and would love to experience it as an adult. Failing that the game against Ipswich when Super Clive got his hat trick on his return from long term injury, that was quite emotional.

This thread just goes to remind me that despite the past 15 year slump (barring the FGR Wembley game), we have had some bloody brilliant times in the past!

Also reminds us that we could do with a cup run next season - disproportionate number of memories from cup competitions being cited!

V Villa 29/1/1994 I was in the old Imperial Corner with my best mate both of us going absolutely mental when Groves scored. Fantastic atmosphere with nearly 16,000 in and Villa having filled the away end corners and all. Match had everything, what we can look back now and say was a great Town side, sending offs, goals and a virtuoso performance from the best defender I've ever seen at BP - Paul McGrath ( I remember walking home cursing him in absolute admiration ). I consider myself fortunate to have been a fan during those great days the likes of which we probably will never see again.
