In the sense of everybody dislikes the owner or is it simply the vocal few on the fishy ? Personally speaking most of my town fan mates want change from top to bottom

At the moment we are on the path to being a non league club again.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

There are some right drama queens on here. We may not be playing the best football at the moment and the chairman has made some right gaffs of late but from the 8/9 matches I have seen this season we certainly don't look like relegation fodder. We look like a mid-table side and we basically are. All things considered - second season back in the league after a long time out of it, 3 managerial changes in 6 months and a squad overhaul - we are not actually doing that bad.

Yes, JF needs to hire a PR consultant, yes we need a striker (who doesn't?!) and yes we'd like to be higher up the league but we are hardly a club in crisis. Far from it.

The path to non-league , something we promised as supporters would never happen again.

Where on earth did it all go so wrong? A day that sticks in my head is away at Woking (wigs at Woking) and in all my time I've never felt a fan/club connection like that - it was fantastic.

Get rid of players that cared , replace them with not only players that don't understand but are genuinely on the whole are weaker in terms of ability.

I'd say you can't script it... But it's GTFC so of course you can.

What a nonsense of a thread
Blackpool funds were raided by a joint owner when they had huge premier league parachute payments in their bank
Gtfc don't have funds to raid

Maybe am fortunate, in the fact I live away and my town games are few and far between. In fact, the last home game I went to was when we lost to Lincoln in2015.

There are so many disgruntled people not only on here, but on the varying social media outlets where fans of the club voice their concerns. I say fans over supporters, as a good percentage of those have stopped supporting the club and the current regime. People will (and have) start voting with their feet and, we will soon have a lower average home attendance than we've had for a long time.

The sth's have been sold down the river with inept performances and what can only be described as the most inept managerial performance Ina long time. The goals 'for' column is quite frankly embarrassing. I agree that no one ever wants to see their team lose, but ffs, have a go at at least kicking the ball towards those big white bits of wood at the end of the pitch!

Of course it is a different situation to Blackpool but there is a sense that we are moving backwards in all areas with no prospect of correcting this. We need a change at the top that's for sure, in my opinion.

I doubt that there are many clubs in the whole football league that think their chairman is doing a good job , Arsenal , Liverpool , Newcastle fans ect would all be shot of their chairman in a minute given the chance never mind most lower league clubs

I think it would be more pertinent to ask if we are going down the same path as York or Stockport?

Despite his tenure being on the whole forgettable, the owner still hasn't grasped you need to spend money wisely, enough of it, and do your homework and due diligence when choosing managers. I was happy enough with Slade, mainly because I didn't trust the owner to choose the best candidate who he didn't already know, and that he would be a safe pair of hands.

All the owner is bothered about really is the new stadium for all sorts of reasons. A change of manager would give us a short term boost no doubt, but until the owner goes it will just be the same club with all the failings that are so obvious. I suppose all owners are egotistical to a degree, but ours has got the club in a stranglehold which is basically an imprint of himself.

The future could be really good if we could find a way of having a new start.

Paris Mariner................  are you serious, are you actually watching these games.  We are 100% atrocious this season and the entertainment value is Nil as per the goal tally.  If you think we will end up mid table playing like this you are kidding yourself.  This team is in REAL danger of relegation this season, and I would be surprised if we take any more than 1 point from our next two home games.  Stop kidding yourself people, this club is rotten from top to bottom and Fenty is as popular as the Oyston family in Blackpool, make no bones about that.  I would estimate that at least 80% of supporters would be pleased to see the back of Fenty and Slade.

Throughout our tenure in the barren wilderness that is non-league, there was always some on here who stood up for Fenty. There was the usual cluster of people who were vehemently anti-Fenty but the vast majority of people on here and social media didn't offer much of an opinion either for or against our beloved leader (Stockholm syndrome?). That seems to have changed. There are still some who defend Fenty and his actions but they're certainly fewer in number. And a lot of the ones who were silent on the matter seem to have been sparked into life and it certainly appears as though the majority would be quite happy to see him gone.

For my part, I've always been silent on the subject. But the comments from the club this week which no doubt emanated from Fenty showed what utter disdain he has for the fanbase. He has no idea what we want but even worse he doesn't care what we want. We are irrelevant to him, the only thing we're good for is to keep the club afloat by blindly handing over our money every two weeks. Doesn't matter what facilities he lays out such as the dirty toilets and crap catering, doesn't matter that he's allowed us to assemble a squad devoid of any attacking intent, we don't deserve value for money. He leaches off our loyalty to the club like the parasite that he is. And woe betide anyone who makes a stand such as boycotting EFL trophy matches, you're nothing more than a bully stopping thousands of would be attenders. Possibly the most ironic statement ever made given his behaviour and actions since he gained a controlling stake.

He bullied the trust in to handing over the MP shares with threats of selling Hearn and to rub salt in to the wounds he now makes them pay for a place on the board. Well I'm sorry John but the Trust does far more good for the club than you ever have and the handing over of the shares which you forced through should be more than enough to earn their place at the top table. Your brother was on here the other day claiming you'd not stand in the way of anyone who could take the club forward and that you'd happily write your loans off. If that money is so benign then why were you repaid £200K from last year's Bogle profit? That money could quite easily have got us 3 or 4 good players for this level who might have meant we weren't looking over our shoulder at the trapdoor once again. Over the last 15 years or so you have made poor decision after poor decision, your PR is so bad it's beyond a joke, you bully anyone who expresses disagreement with you or does anything which threatens your control over the club and you have shown nothing but contempt for the only good thing left about the club; the fans.

It's clear you can't take this club further, at best under you we have treaded water at a level which historically would have been considered below us. It's also clear that nobody wants to work with you or with your "benign" loans looming ominously in the background should you not get your way. So if you really care about the club, it's time you actually wrote off those loans and let someone else have a go.

I don't think he's anywhere near. Fenty's been pretty lucky in that regard, given his role over the last 15 years or so. You hear the odd shout and moan, but that's about it. That may change in the near future though, as M91 said in his excellent post.

I always find this "get rid of players" who care argument a little dodgy at best. Pearson was a great part of the side, BUT he decided to take a contract at Wrexham, before he was offered something here. The year before it was Amond and Arnold, who according to PH didnt get in touch to negotiate. Toto was basically hounded out by the fans who took nearly every opportunity to boo him and get on his back.

As for replacing them with players who dont understand, put yourself in their shoes- if every time you lose a game you re booed and called useless on forums and twitter I wonder quite how much of a Sh1t you would give about the club.

The saddest thing about being a Grimsby fan, for me, is the offensive and overly dramatic reactions that happen so regularly when we lose or draw.

I would like it if we had to even ask who our chairman (non chairman) was because he left it to the football people, PR department to do all the announcements, but we seem to have a leader that enjoys the publicity (good or bad)

I'm not saying Mike Parker is that person, he's probably been put off for life after the way Fenty shafted him. But it shows there were people who would be interested, and I have no doubt there would certainly be more who would consider it without having to pay off Fenty's loans. Nobody is going to come in whilst he has a stranglehold over the club. You either have to agree to working with him which appears to be impossible especially when he can't stand not getting his own way and has the threat of calling his loans in. Or you have to pay massively over the odds to gain control because you have to pay back his mistakes as well as purchase shares.

If the loans were written off, we wouldn't necessarily need someone with money to come in, just a brain and some footballing insight. With the right PR and being run in the right way, there is no reason why we couldn't average over 5000 fans at games which is more than enough to be competitive in this league. Exeter average around 4,000 and look where they are. Accrington get less than 2,000 and are significantly better than we are in every department. This club could be reasonably self-sufficient without Fenty if it was run correctly. When was the last time he put in much money? The fans paid for Bogle. We've made a profit in quite a few of the last seasons. And last season he repaid himself £200K which would have made a huge difference to our recruitment this summer.

I don't know what you mean by that last paragraph. Town fans have been incredibly loyal and supportive even when we dropped to non league. There hasn't been wide scale booing from the majority of fans for donkeys years - maybe the match at Halifax away and the home play off defeat to Braintree.

If you mean fans on forums then that happens at every club. You can be top of the league yet lose a game and see the reaction on forums!

Don't disagree with any of that but in reality we are a million miles away from most of it at the moment sadly. It would be interesting though to run a set of projections to understand where the break even point is in the accounts based on the current cost base.

Mike Ashley is rumoured to be interested in buying a lower league club once he gets out of Toon.

I think you will find that that isn't true. He wanted to stay but the club wouldn't offer him a contract as they were clearly looking to sign someone else. What did you expect him to do start the season without a club.

Spot on.

In fact Exeter are owned and run by their Trust. Shows what can be done. I reckon if you took all the skills that are available amongst the fanbase, it'd knock spots over the current regime once properly mobilised. Unlock the potential.

That is a distortion of events they made an offer to Clarke and was waiting for his response,Pearson made the decision as there was a firm offer on the table from Wrexham,he was pushed into it,like us all he has a family to support. But as usual don't let the facts colour your opinion.

Also Newport, Wycombe currently I think. Things went well for Brentford and Portsmouth when they were recently trust owned and look at them now..

This is absolute spades. But The Fishy has been like this for the past few years... remember everyone wanting Hurst sacked after the first leg of the play-offs in the year we got promoted?

Now I am pretty uninspired by what we're seeing on the pitch, and it is killing some enthusiasm which normally makes me make every effort (finances depending) to get to games. But we are also not at the brink of collapse. It's mid-table fodder and it's a bit dull.

As for John Fenty, whilst I don't profess to be a huge fan myself, they stuff I've heard pinned on him on here recently is absurd. And if you challenge it you're a "happy clapper" or alleged to be related to the Fenty family as though they are some far-reaching mafioso.

What the Fishy faithful need is to look up 'nuance' in the dictionary and probably get a bit of a healthier balance in their lives, perhaps a hobby to alongside following GTFC, something less partisan, perhaps?

The big problem is who is that "someone else" ?

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Only question that needs asking is "how much to buy you out, shareholdings and benign loans included?"

Then we, as a fan base, know what is required.

Sadly, I don't think Fenty has any interest in giving a figure as he doesn't want to relinquish power.

I don't doubt Fenty is a decent bloke. He probably thinks he's doing things for the best. However he's the architect of  the sheer incompetence and nepotism that is not only threatening the future prospects of the club but also creating an atmosphere of apathy amongst the fans, myself included.

I've always regarded myself as quite neutral in opinions on Fenty and probably gone down the "who else is there?" path. Recent events have proven too much though. Now I would rather watch GTFC, or a version of, on Bradley Pitches than continue in this fashion.

Sure Mr Fenty’s made some poor managerial appointments and he’s not a good public speaker and his loans mean he is essential to the club’s survival but I would not want a change as if he walks away, takes his £2m loans with him and there’s no money then we really are in big trouble. He didn’t have to put his money in but he did and he’s kept the club viable. It’s not perfect but better the devil you know.

Yes he did have to put his money in to paper over all the intercourse ups he made that cost our club that money.
This is why he should never get it back.
He should pay for his intercourse ups.

Mid-table in League 2, transitional squad with little budget. Let's stick together and keep optimistic, we might even win our next 2 games. I'm sure the manager and players are just as frustrated as the fans. Wouldn't any change now increase the risk of us getting into a relegation fight?

It hasn't been pretty recently but back in the conference we had plenty of poor matches.

He can't be that bad at speaking to the pubic as he is a local politician.

One thing makes me laugh though, posters on here saying he should "write off the loans" if it was their 2 million I would imagine they would thing differently.

I can't exactly recall when it was Herts ( I haven't googled it but maybe there is a piece in the CA archives ) but I'm certain that JF said he's already written off those loans 'in his head'

If that's the case then why does he still have a stranglehold over everything GTFC?

In terms of the title question, I think you can add Hartlepool to it. I thought they beat us and still went down last season.

As long as we persist in playing non scoring players, in a non scoring team - in a non scoring management set up, the trap door is very likely.

Don't understand the management stance of not wanting to win games.

It is almost as if, the management believe that, Town were better off in the National League. Maybe. Just a bit more pain this season, and look forward to Wembley next season. (Hopefully), Paul will be available, after Shrewsbury implode in the second half of the season.
