In an article in the Football League  Paper, keeper Eastwood describes his rise to play for Oxford from dropping down to Halifax to get a game.

He rejected a new deal at Halifax to get a better team.

What he then goes on to say.  " straightaway I got an offer from Grimsby. But is was weird. The manager literally said you've got no chance of playing. I want someone to sit on the bench. I walked away."

He doesn't say who it was but my guess would be Bignot.

What a strange way of recruiting players.

Maybe at the time McKeown handed in his transfer request and before Henderson was recalled?

Thing is from reading the article he was desperate to sign for anyone.  Telling any player that if they sign they are not going to play is not very positive.  We are not Chelsea that can afford to pay millions to reserves.

Wonder how many more players we told if they signed they would only be bench warmers?

id more imagine it was scott and hurst when Macca was solely number 1 and we had a long line of keepers who never got close to challenging him

Maybe he is exaggerating ...perhaps we contacted him...perhaps we said he would have to challenge for the No.1 spot....perhaps he thought no ta i expect to be number 1.....which he isnt going to say in a feature about himself as it makes him look a tool..
