Poor game  first 35 minutes. Dembele is good.

You are lucky that the ref is blind. Jones fouled on the edge of the area. Ref missed it. Then when he got a free kick just after Davies stamped on him. Disgusting piece of work. Watch the replays later. Then decide who is the cheat.

To be fair it looks like either jones or dembele will be the ones to decide it. Can't help but feel the selection is too negative, got one of the centre mids off, jones in the middle and an actually winger out wide.

agreed, we look poor in the final third. Dembele is trying to make things work but the wing and front players dont
seem cohesive at all today

I have no commentary on the video, but if the ref blew his whistle then we did take the free kick

Looked like we were trying to slow it down, Clarke should've taken it forward not **cked about!

Clarke left it for Macca to take, but tapped it 5 yards backwards for Macca to walk up to and take it, the ref deemed it in play by Clarke

Their player ran on to it rounded Macca and tapped in to an empty net

Now do you agree Slade is clueless? He takes off the only player giving us a problem. I will be keeping an eye on him this season.

Taken off because of cramp, same as he was against Chesterfield.

As someone else has commented, the goal should not have stood as the Coventry player was no where near 10 yards away from the ball.

Is that the law though if the ref interpreted that he chose to take it quickly?

Anyway, refs make mistakes all the time - to do that with an opponent so close is stupid.

Correct Jay. You have Dembele. Not many teams will be able to handle him. Hopefully some of your other players will get on the same wavelength as him. Would love him in my team.

Cant help but feel dissapointed that of the 98 signings weve made over the last year, we've still ended up playing berett and summerfield in midfield. Nothing to do with this result because Im in france not there today, but just felt dissapointed seeing the teamsheet before the game.

Beaten by a much better team. Why the hell did Macca call to take that free kick so far out. Pointless, silly. We offered virtually nothing up front although the two chances I remember think we should of put them away. One in each half. Dembele something else.
Think we'll have a good season away from home but, on that showing, going to struggle at home....AGAIN.

With their first - why didn't Macca just stop, raise his arms in a "what are you doing posture?" and make no attempt - then it makes it more ballsy for their player to go on and score and the ref to allow it.

We'll get nowhere in this league playing Berrett or Summerfield - National League players

For the life of me I don't know what we Russ was thinking starting Sam Jones on the left today , Sam Jones is a cracking player in his natural position but as hard as he tries out there he is virtually anonymous.

Today also showed despite us signing about 30 central midfielders over the past couple seasons we still are lacking in quality there although out of all of them Mitch rose looks the best.

Sladey knows his football but today the whole set up was wrong .

Coventry turned it up a gear in the second half, they look a good side. Sam Jones is wasted on the wing.

Think the people booing at full time need to hang their heads in shame though. It's the second game of the season ffs

Sorry to say but Slade is past it. Like I said earlier he was one of the reasons we got relegated last season. I also said he doesn't have a plan B and his plan A doesn't work for half the time.

Don't get disheartened though. Dembele is some player. We couldn't handle him. Any team with him in it will always have a chance. I just hope you don't cash in on him.

You don't pay a ticket price to watch your team set up 4-5-1 at home and defend all game. Coventry are a good team but no world beaters, I don't think that Russ had any intention of playing a team to win the match. Summerfield is excrement and an abomination of a player, Berrett just a lightweight option. Our midfield was copulated today and to put Sam Jones on the left wing took the morale high ground. From such a positive game at Chesterfield last week to this week, I think the first goal is just a shambles, Clarke not to blame but will have probably end up on one of those DVDs in a few years time for blunders. They took control of the game thereafter and bossed it. We are looking particularly suspect in centre midfield. I'm not calling for nobody's head or sacking but what a excrement game set up for negativity, felt like an away match with no umph.

Coventry squad on a budget of millions, ours maybe a fifth of theirs. Coventry are probably a class above this but shouldn't need to cheat to prove it.

Our budget isn't massive.  We are run by a hedge fund. That is why we are in Division 4. Their only interest is taking people to court trying to get compensation for what they haven't legally done wrong. We are just lucky that Robins came back. He is the best manager in this Division IMHO.

Boring afternoon, Jones wasted out wide, Berret  never broke sweat, Summerfield tries hard but is bereft of skill, we missed Vernon today their centre backs like our two bossed the eighteen yard area.
We have no threat up front apart from Jones when he wandered inside, early days yet but we need to have a bit more about us at home.

So 10 of you disagree with me and none agree with me on saying that Slade doesn't have a plan B and his plan A doesn't work for half the time. Yet all I see is comments about him getting it wrong.

I have been talking to my lad who is a STH with you. I have been watching your games for at least 25 years. I don't make a habit of going on our opponents message boards. Look back on the thread. The game went the way I thought it would. But I didn't know that Dembele is as good as he is. You have found a gem.

I hope today is a hiccup for you. Take the p1ss if you like. But Robins has put a good squad together on what seems to be about the 8th top budget in this Division.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Hope you don't mind when I join you next with my lad.

Russel Slade has managed 800 games and has a career win ratio of 37.3%. Mark Robins has managed 400 games and has a career win ration of 37.8%, so let's not pretend Robins is some kind of football messiah. Slade may not have done well at your club but as i said earlier, both managers have had their successes and failures. You didn't beat us today because Slade is sh1t and Robins is a genius. I'm not a big fan of Slade but he is an experienced manager.

Not really Mariner.

My GTFC supporting lad was born in Grimsby hospital. So he became a GTFC supporter. We like to spend time together. So we go to games together. He watches Cov and I watch Grimsby sometimes. I have seen Grimsby away more times than a lot of your own supporters. They are like my second club. The emotion isn't there. But I like to see you do well.

Reading between the lines I don't think they have loads of money unless hedge funders know more about football than I think they do.

If it goes by attendances it doesn't. They told us that our budget would be top 8. That means our budget is 8th. Robins has done well with the money. And we are lucky as we have had youth players come through again. But they will be sold as soon as a bid comes in for them.

Or do you think that the 7th or 8th largest city has their only football club playing in Division 4 for no reason?

The first time Robins came to us he saved our season. Then the next season he took us to the top of the table. He got poached by Huddersfield. Our next manager only just managed to keep us up after a great start until Xmas.

This time he took over from a manager called Slade. We were rock bottom by miles. We were not a team. It took him a few games to get us going. But we won at Wembley and started winning again. Too late to save us though.

This season he brought in players nice and early. We were in shock. We normally bring in players well after the start of the season to save on wages. He has found a gem in O'Brien our GK. Our defence and midfield looks solid. And our front line looks decent. 5 goals for. Not many chances against.

Don't worry. We all have nosebleeds. Not finished in the top 6 for over 40 years in any Division. And the last time we looked like doing it was when Robins was last with us.

Honest opinion on Coventry today Astute.Thought they were competent, solid and well organised but other than the number 11 Jones? who was the best player on the pitch and caused all sorts of havoc I really didn't think they were any great shakes. It was more a case of us being pretty poor today. Despite that, If we'd taken the chance in the first half after a mazy Dembele run or the one in the second when Jones bulldozered his way to the edge of the box but then blazed over, things could have been very different.

Not sure why threads always seem to turn to arguments between own fans / opposing fans really.  The facts in reality really are that Coventry will have a better budget than ours, but in reality not light years ahead of ours.  The simple facts today were that we were outfought, out thought, and beaten by a clearly better team than ours.  Coventry passed and moved the ball around far better than us, and had one player maker (Jones) who controlled most of what was good about their play.  We were very poor today, and need to get bet quickly, otherwise todays defeat will be happening a lot of times this season.  Constantly pumping the ball forward to no one in particular means the pressure comes back at you so quickly.  Very early days and I am sure we will bounce back strongly, but we have to have 100% more fire in our bellies than we showed today.  As for Coventry, they will be there or thereabouts for promotion this season, albeit some of their fans were little tosspots today.

I agree with you both. But you did play a bit better than you say though.

For the first 35 minutes you played quite well. Our game is based on a solid defence and well organised midfield which has bite when needed. For years we have been too soft. But now we have players that can give it back. Dembele is some player. I know that we have only played two games so far. But he is the only player to have worried us so far. If the players around him had more composure you could have been ahead before we got going.

Jones is looking a good player for us now. He is only 19. Had a bit part to play last season but has had a great start this one. And he now has fight inside him. Was actually good to see him get booked after Davies trod on him on purpose. Shows he is ready for 1st team football and won't be pushed around. And we will be better up front soon when 2 of the subs we brought on are fit.

I just hope Slade does better with you than us.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Catch up with you all in the return game.
